I’m a healthy, young 53 year old. I was a competitive speed skater, softball player and swimmer, as well as a cheerleader. Now, I am bone on bone. I was told I need 2 …. 2 new knees. But, I am to young. So, I thought, get on this…I lost weight, I went back to doing activities I felt ok doing. But, I still hurt at night. I want natural help. Thanks! I will keep watching. I think a lot of our doctors are being limited. You are so sweet and kind to offer this help.

@@sharonpreston2826 you don’t mind me asking, how long have you had osteoarthritis and how long have you been pain free? Were you not able to climb stairs or walk before PT? @sharonpreston2826
@sharonpreston2826 Жыл бұрын
@@tr6151 didn't the doctor say #3 stop taking anti inflammatories? I think that's what he said, can't remember exactly. I did stop taking them. The doctor also said (if I remember correctly) you will then develop scar tissue. And that makes everything work and feel better. I'm 100% for a year now. And this is the second time I've gone through this process of injury to healing. Because I twisted my knee again, two years ago. It was hard and painful to do everything but I had to. I have 30 stair steps to my door. I did IT, core and glut exercises. A few a day. I did other exercises, like yoga and stretching. No didn't change my diet. But when I retired (@60) (also 60 is when it stated) I slowly lost a little weight. 10 or 15 lb. Weight has a lot to do with it. I was only told I had arthritis and sever loss of cartilage. I will need a knee replacement. That scared me and I got busy with PT. And I only did PT with a therapist for a week, got a list of exercises and did the next 6 months at home. I feel very lucky so far. Everybody is different. Good luck. And do more research and reading on the subject, so you can make your own informed decisions. I wish you wellness!

Everything you say is true to my experience. I'm 72 and about 25 years ago my left knee was deteriorating. I walked with a neighbor sometimes and it would get worse. I took glucosamine 1500 mg daily and within a few months, the knee was healed. Still works great. Most of my friends, even younger ones, have artificial joints. I notice all the ones that work out at the gym on those machines end up with joint replacement. I keep thinking it's repetitive motion. Anyway, this is a channel I will be suggesting to friends and family. Thanks!

I have a 'lazy meniscus' in my right knee and issues with my SI joint. I found El Paso on YT a couple of years ago. I swear by him and compliment his exercises with those by the Seniors specialist physio at HT Physio also on YT. My osteo checked out both sites and approves. Both of them have exercises that are very doable and stackable as you improve and remind you constantly to listen to your own body and its needs. I use them alongside walking, sea swimming and add on the Fabulous 50s YT workout exercises. I have no need for expensive gym membership at all. The only time I now have trouble with my knee is when I stop doing exercises for a few days due to long haul flights or illness. At 61, I'm fitter than I was at 41 and my knees and back feel good. Gyms do not cater for the over 60s, especially if, heaven forbid, we have not been a gym junkie all our lives tsk tsk. They just have no clue about the different needs of seniors. It's one size fits all.

It was suggested a knee replacement a couple years ago, Walking alot was absolutely the worst thing for my knee but I couldn't help it because of my job. I have since been able to NEARLY ( not totally) eliminate my knee pain, Here's what has continued to work for me. I've done this all together at one time so I can't say which has worked the most 1, DRINK lots of liquids (intra workout, post work out) ,and especially WATER 2. I take types 1,2,3,4,5 COLLOGEN POWDER (It's all combined into one product) mixed in my drinks 3. I always trained legs ( squat, hack squat, leg press,leg curls ) but put more emphasis on doing lots slow and controlled LEG EXTENSIONS but not as heavy working sets, 4. At my gym I'm lucky enough to have a stand up RED LIGHT BED which I use everytime I go to the gym, about 6 days per week, 5. I regularly take OMEGA 3 FISH OIL 6. I try NOT TO KNEEL ( like on the floor) as much as possible. The combination has worked for me,,If I had to guess I'd say my knee is 85 to 90 % better than it was...Best, Steve

I'm a dancer. We always wrapped our knees to keep them warm. Now that I'm older, I still do. I stay flexible and even with slight inflammation, I'm still able to do liw step aerobics to stay limber. An odd experience when I fell years ago released all the tension from my bad knee and now I have absolutely no pain. I thought I had broken my knee so I rested for ten minutes before I tried to get up. Shocked to find that nothing was broken and that cracking sound was no less than the knee popping back into place, like cracking my knuckles for relief, amazingly, no pain for years!! I walk half hour every day. Go downstairs backwards leaning into the steps, to keep my buns in shape and not fall down steps. Odd, but it works and keeps my elbows elongated and my knees don't have to support my weight forward.

@@Ses458 either long winter socks with toes cut out so you can cover your knees or wrap them with 6" elastic bands. Get the longest and widest they have. Also push your knee cap in from the side. I was diagnosed with severe arthritis in my neck 10 years ago. The doctor mentioned surgery to have plates put into my neck but suggested physiotherapy first. I have always exercised and at the time was training as a yoga teacher. The physiotherapist gave me some exercises and mentioned that my fitness level would be beneficial to the management of my condition. Since being diagnosed I have continued strengthening and mobilizing my neck, with an awareness of my alignment and posture. I never suffer from pain in my neck now, despite remembering how degraded my vertbrea and discs looked on the X-ray. I truly believe gentle stretching to release tension in the soft tissues around the joint alongside strengthening the surrounding muscles to support the joint, is the answer...

Aches and pains. 3 years ago I cut sugar and carbs out of my diet. No takeout food. Cook at home. I Only eat fats and animal proteins, some cooked veggies for fibre. No fruit. I drink beer and smoke cigarettes. The aches and pains are gone now for 2 years. At 50 I feel I can climb walls. Im Working in mechanical and electrical field. Relatively physical work. I feel exercise is necessary if you don't work. But not too much. Diet will repair a lot of previously broken stuff.

Weakness in the gluteal area will also expose weakness in your core stability development too and believe it or not ,incredibly awesome person your core strength &stabilization also involves your Keagle muscles, muscles that are used to control waste elimination: #1&#2 (potty). I would be developing your scapulo-thoracic strength and stability of your upper back and to stabilize your core muscles which involve your transverse abdomen inner and outer obliques ,quadrates lumborum ,gluteus maximus ,gluteus minimus gluteul mobility, strength in your hip stabilizers. There are an abundance of them Adductors are most neglected part on the human body most importantly developing your glutes In isolation. If you’re doing exercises and your medial hamstring muscles start cramping the exercise you were doing is being dominated by your hamstring muscles not your glutes try internally, rotating your leg as you do, exercises like reverse glute raises, even your side leg rays try to internally rotate the hip/the femur bone as you lift your leg backwards.

Praise God for directing me to this great PT. I was a former teacher in my country . So, I very well know how to detect a knowledgeable and efficient instructor when I see one . Thank you , Doc , for enlightening and giving me hope on my condition. I was recently diagnosed to have early signs of osteoarthritis on my right leg. . At first , fear of the unknown caught me. But I prayed , searched on Google lots of articles about arthritis and watched many videos . Most PT I listened to were good ones . But this is so far the sufficiently comprehensive, well-assuring and most hopeful . God is good !❤

My knees are both bone on bone and collapse inward. Play a lot of golf and can't give it up. Right now, I am unable to. The fancy knee uploader brace seems useless. My glutes are weak. Always have been. Never focused much on them as an athlete. Just thought they were getting worked out from everything else. Now I'm going to focus primarily on them thanks to this remarkable man's sincere advice. You're an angel bro. Will keep this feed informed as to my progress. Want to be a 66 year old man that actually gets better with age. My golf game has for sure but has literally GRINDED to a halt. Blessings.

I am doing pt for my pseudogout knee arthritis. The people I work with always ask if it hurts when I start an exercise. If I say yes, they tell me to stop so I was glad to hear you talk about that and happy to hear that my therapist feels as you do. I have found that when I do glute work and also concentrate on my posture, my knee does feel better. My hope is that I haven't damaged the knee too much already and can resist getting knee replacement. Thank you so much for doing these superb and knowledgeable videos! I have been a bit depressed about the knee pain but you have at least given me hope and some tools to use that indicate that I may be able to stay away from the surgery.

Hey Karen, glad you have found our advice helpful and it has helped your knee pain! You can definitely resist knee replacement as long as you make your glutes the primary muscle in as many motions as possible. You should use them all the time! If you do, you can very well allow your body to heal and avoid the knee replacement.

Hi, I appreciated your video. FYI I had allergic arthritis years ago that came up very quickly. I could no longer climb stairs, but had to sit on the steps and go up backwards. I could no longer drive. We changed vehicles so my knees wouldn’t have to bend and so I could hold my knees because they jiggled so much. A friend gave me a book by Dr Mandell (or Mandrell) with the words allergy and arthritis in the subject. As he treated allergies his arthritis patients improved. I was able to identify the allergy: amalgam fillings. I told the dentist I was allergic to silver, and he told me I would probably be just fine. Well, obviously not after several years! Once removed and replaced by resin-based fillings which are stronger by the way, the arthritis started to heal and a lot of other nagging problems like numbness in my face started to go away. Sooo happy to have read that book that a friend gave me to read!! I know that pain of not being able to sleep, not even to tolerate a sheet or pant legs.

Thank you for all the information you share. Actually, I've learned more from these videos in the past month than in the several the years I've been dealing with bilateral knee arthritis. With walking, I'm good for short distances, but the pain ramps up after that. I was in misery last month on vacation that involved airports and lots of walking. Although I had a great time, couldn't wait til I got back home. It was very humbling to be pushed in a wheelchair at the airport (but much needed), as well as in a wheelchair in a casino during the vacation. Don't want to be in a wheelchair again, but at the same time, there's no way I could have walked that distance or been on my feet for such "long" periods of time, either. I'm following my gut feeling on taking Aleve or Motrin to help with the pain, and realized the meds really do next to nothing for my pain, so I stopped them a few days ago - and oddlly, I feel good and the pain kinda feels less. I'm very conscious about how I move (no pivoting), how I walk, walk down stairs or downhill, and avoid uneven surfaces.
@isabellegiorgis2975

That wheelchair service is the best! I could not do airport without it. Not only, the walking would be too painful but they know where they are going, and you get priority in every lines. Don't be ashamed to use this service. I am not.

I am a survivor of Psoriatic Arthritis, and in the first year of its onset, I was bed ridden for months. So much pain and swelling in my knees, it took the Doctors ages to diagnose, but eventually they put me onto 20mg of Methotrexate (once a week) certainly eased the pain and the swelling, but I hated how you had to have a blood test every month or so to check the meds were not damaging the liver. After a few years of being on it, I weaned myself completely from the drug, and changed my diet to an anti inflammatory diet, and started taking MSM daily. I walk and exercise most days, and feel fantastic. My knees are still an odd shape (probably some calcification) but I am so grateful that I can walk miles without pain anymore. I have been off the meds now for four or more years, fingers crossed it won't come back.

Osteo Arthritis is caused when the joint is out of alignment, which causes the cartilage to wear out. So you must strengthen the legs adequately to put the joint into alignment. Then you can exercise. Been a massage therapist for 25 years and have always been able to tell that the knee joints hurt when it is out of alignment. ..always. Exercising with a joint out of alignment, only wears it out. That is why leg strength is the key to eliminating most all pain thru out the whole body.

I'm 45 and have severe OA. When I was 26 in 2004, I had a severe sinus infection that went up to the brain and lesions in the spinal cord. I woke up mute and hemiplegic on my right side. I didn't actively move my muscles for 8 weeks from an autoimmune disease called acute disseminated encephalomyelitis. I've been left with massive spasticity and have an intrathecal pump delivering baclofen, bupvicaine and dilaudid in my spine and the device housing the meds is under the skin in my right buttock. I have been in and out of PT for years but never for this awful OA in both knees. It's at a point where I cannot drive and my quality of life is in the dumps. With all the spasticity and imbalance of muscle tone on my right side I was fearing total knee replacements. Thank you for this information as I will focus more on my glutes.

Something you might want to suggest to your patients if you don't already and it is to exercise the good knee (seems common for there to be a good and bad knee) as much as the bad knee to try and prevent problems with the good knee.

Makes sense to me! I feel it may be unique to each individual, genetic or otherwise, but pain seems to be a signal to stop doing something that is creating a problem. I feel the body is a great healer, a person needs awareness. I appreciate you! You have helped me greatly this last month!

Hi there. I started with knee arthritis back in 2008 and it's worse today. I used to drink down bottles of Advil because in the beginning I had to keep my job which involved lots of walking in downtown Oakland. About a month or two ago I had a fall in my kitchen from an office chair. I landed on my gluteus maximus area and thought I could get up the old fashioned way, just get up on your knees. I tried it, only to wince from pain and sit on the floor. I scooted on my butt from the kitchen to the living room where i grabbed 2 pillows under my knees and got up that way. So now a couple months later, all hell has broken loose in my knees. For a month or so now I am awakened with knee pain never having had it when sleeping before. My knee creaks like an old tugboat and pops a lot. I am following your videos and they might help but if I don't do it more than once, I know it won't work. Your videos are very good and informative. My last ortho took xrays about 5 years ago and said my kneecap is "shattered" because of an earlier fall on the sidewalk hitting knees first. So, the right knee is very painful, the left knee not so much. I am using a walker in my house now when I never ever had to. So I will continue to follow your videos and hope for improvement because I am not getting a knee replacement! Thank you, Pat, San Jose, CA

Brags apple cider vinegar, green kiwis, raw cranberry juice, grapefruit, kale, jalapeño, turmeric whole , ginger whole R all part of my daily diet now. 4 months and inflammation and pain are gone. Unprocessed Whole Foods diet only. I’ve learned what causes pain and what reduces pain in my diet since I’m in a constant state of inflammation with autoimmune disease and hyperthyroidism

There is a time when I like to feel aches. It is the day a after exercising. I begin to use that muscle, and I feel a slight ouch, and I love it, because I know I hit the right muscle. Since you helped me ditch my meniscus pain, I am concentrating on glutes and toes, to help me walk stronger. I still cannot believe that pain is gone, and I can actually press that touchy meniscus spot on my knee, without pain. I will definitely encourage my husband to do the exercises for knee arthritis, as he has complained of knee pain, and I don't know why, but his mom had many issues exacerbated by fallen arches. Thank you again for my NEW knees. My husband had colon cancer surgery, and I encouraged him to use an electric cart, so now, I have to keep up with him in the store. LOL

I was scheduled for a TKR and in a lot of knee pain. I started doing glute exercises and my knee pain went away. I told them I wanted to reschedule some time in the future. I might be kicking the can down the road, but I'm totally pain free today. I'll wait until the pain affects my quality of life before I do that major surgery.

I have recently been diagnosed with stage 4 in one knee. I was unable to walk more than a block without an unbearable level of pain. My Ortho surgeon laid out a plan that focused on PT. Eight weeks later I am able to walk 1.6 miles almost every day with no pain with short random messages from my knee that indicates that it is not completely stable yet. PT has been focused on muscles and that stabilize all parts of my body with focus on legs /knees.

When I was dealing with back pain, over thirty years ago, my best friend's dad said, "Just remember, Jean...surgeons don't make any money unless they do surgery." That is true with SOME surgeons. I remember a former neighbor who visited a surgical practice out of town. Surgery was advised. She had the surgery, which did not help, so it was advised to have another, and four surgeries later, she had to undergo an implant of some kind to deal with the pain. I never understood the issue, but wondered if it was an emotional thing. Pain can make people desperate. Finding the least invasive solution can be easier than we think. Never panic...stop and consider alternatives. It sure paid off for my knees.

Ive just binge watch 3 vidos on knee arthritis back to back. Did the duck walk getting off my bed(no pain). Plan to use it going up and down my stairs. Will stop the quads training Im on. 1 year of swollen painful knee and physiotheraphy. Physio today at 10, will talk to them about glutes strenghtening exercises to decompress knee joint. Thank you so much. Will be doing th stretching out the leg exercie using quads muscle as my leg does not straighten out completely. Painful and tight, I have gotten some range in the past then it would decrease- the knee bending. Thank you also for this exercise I believe it will reverse this problem. P. S. It seems most people has a left knee problem! Does this correlates being right handed?

A physio’s advise helped my chronic Achilles tendinitis by telling me to stop lengthening the tendon! And it worked. Inflammation is way way down. And I use a small lift in my sneakers (and things are so much better!). Thank you Dr David for advocating for patients while you educate. Edited to include that I know this is about the knee, but the concept is the same RE: not doing the things that will irritate the soft tissue near/around the joint.

I came across a video of yours on walking and tried it. amazingly, it really worked. I walk straight and virtually pain free after 1 day. I passed the link onto a friend who suffers badly from knee arthritis (we are both old). A question: I do a lot of gardening (am self-sufficient for food) and carrying wheelbarrows full of soil is tough on the knees (well, I reduced the load). Is there anything to observe for carrying weight and have you done a video on the subject? I am from Germany and the idea of knee replacement never entered my head. No way. I like all my body parts and wish to keep them.
