I feel like you’re touching on the idea of not just throwing a punch on the front foot without set up. Because, if you always throw a back foot jab (and only a back foot jab) you will eventually get caught with a long lead hook as your head is always on the right side of the line. Like your impeding the ability to have head movement by only punching on one side of the line; it’ll get timed in either scenario

Just curious coach, what if you're the one with SHORTER arm reach, wouldn't you then have to step or lean into your jab in order to hit your opponent?
@chindit67846 ай бұрын
If you're the shorter fighter would it be better to lean in to increase reach?
@justaracoonchillinginatoilet696 ай бұрын
I am the shorter fighter. Hmm
@108485149596 ай бұрын
No, it leaves you too exposed and leaning in puts you off balance as well, which is a problem if you don't connect with your jab, you're now in a bad spot. Footwork and head movement is key for a shorter fighter
@edoz32796 ай бұрын
As a shorter fighter you have to close distance with your feet before throwing the punch defo dont lean in as your too exposed
@hugodiazloera21566 ай бұрын
I've seen fighters like charlo do that a lot
@punchperfectperformance59326 ай бұрын
Just use your feet to get in range or you can also use head movement by throwing your jab as they throw theirs but with your head off the line. Watch someone like canelo and how he can get his jab off against a taller boxer.... it comes down to ring IQ and timing mostly
@spiked4155 ай бұрын
Why? Never heard of Carlos Monzon? Probably best ATG middleweight and big time lean w jab
@punchperfectperformance59325 ай бұрын
Have a look at why and when he does it…. I’m not saying you can’t do it at certain times, I’m saying it’s important to know when and why to do it Unintentionally leaning in with your jab because you can’t control or gauge range is dangerous and will get you hurt
@spiked4155 ай бұрын
@@punchperfectperformance5932 he did it cus it was his style and he did it everytime he threw the jab watch any of his fights, Cosell commented on it and that thing was a damn tree trunk. Point is There's no hard and fast dogma or rule in boxing that can't be broken, depending on personal anatomy, preference etc
@punchperfectperformance59325 ай бұрын
@@spiked415 yeah your correct, there’s a lot of unconventional things boxers do that wouldn’t be taught in a gym but works for that individual

Different situations for the jump/lean in jab, most of the time it’s used to cover distance and to catch the opponent off guard. People need to add more detail when making videos about technique. There’s people that are really seeking knowledge about boxing. Stop making half ass videos just for little views smh.
@punchperfectperformance59326 ай бұрын
We're not talking about a gazelle jab though are we? or as you say "jump in" and we're also not talking about baiting with the jab like duran used to do well to give the perception he was closer, they would then commit and he could counter, floyd did the same.... we are talking about the conventional standard jab which alot people over commit with an lean in with. so thanks for your feedback, i hope that gives you "more detail"
@untouchable87096 ай бұрын
@@punchperfectperformance5932 if you had put that in your video it would be good information, but you didn’t it just showed that not to lean in with the jab.
@punchperfectperformance59326 ай бұрын
@@untouchable8709 you can’t put every piece of information into every video There’s loads of variations of the jab and in this video In particular I’m saying that people should stop leaning in with a conventional jab Unless using a gazelle jab or leaning forward to bait a counter then your better off using your feet to move into position on your jab or like the video shows using my hip to gain more range and snap I appreciate your feedback and opinion and I’ll make sure I add more information to future videos

It’s a habit that’s been picked up but I’m sure he’d be even more effective if he didn’t do it Over history you’ll see fighters that done unorthodox things, it worked for them but still doesn’t make them right 😄🥊

All the comments on people giving their opinions beneath/on a video (which is why there is a comment-section) are wild. If you put a video with some box-tips on youtube for the world to see, you can expect people to give their opinion. You don’t need to be a professional to give opinions on a platform like KZbin. I know absolutely nothing about most videos I watch but I learn a lot from opinions from all sorts of people, gives some perspectives. You should try it sometimes:)
@punchperfectperformance59326 ай бұрын
Opinions are welcome, we don’t always have to agree 😃 I always say to my fighters that not everything I show them will work for that individual But they’ll never know if it works or not unless they try it It’s about taking what works for you and perfecting it and then adding bits as you go Boxings and on going process and that’s what is great about it
