Right on! We have always had multiple sources of income. When we finally retire we will have some consulting earnings, portfolio income, interest and dividend income, plant nursery income, real estate cash flow, profit on a small online business, and eventually social security and a small pension. What’s that 8+ sources. Some we have had for over 30 years. Some we have added specifically for retirement. Not hitting your portfolio early also helps it to keep growing. You have options in good and bad markets. Your advice is very good! Rent out a room, rent out your camper, take a part time retirement job, teach a class, buy a property. Never good to have all your eggs in one basket! We enjoy keeping mentally and physically active, the couch is your enemy! Enjoy, Larry

Larry, you guys are killing the multiple income streams... amazing!!! The benefit as the nursery is also one of your passions... you get to stay active, busy, and fulfilled, all while making another income 🤗 We completely agree with leaving your investment base as long as possible prior to taking any of the capital, so having other sources to draw from is important. You're other suggestions are also fantastic!

But how If there is a stock market crash?

Then, multiple income streams are even more important. Not really solely on investments and trying to diversify would help in a situation like that

Another excellent video! I was layed off twice in my life. Those events were alarming but glad I experienced them as they forced me to evaluate my lifestyle and what was important. That was a time before internet or emergency funds. I ended up with better jobs both times.

Being laid off is definitely a stressful situation. We are so glad that you came out of them with better jobs. It's interesting how we divide ours li e sometimes... before the internet and after! Gean and I were talking about this just yesterday. It's so funny that you mentioned it as well!

@FIREWeGo Thank you! My first layoff came as I returned from a one week vacation!!! I was 21 in 1981, with a "huge" $127/month mortgage. 😂 My philosophy was, when you don't have a job, FINDING a job IS your job! I drove to any business I thought would employ me and filled out paper applications. Fortunately, within a week, I found a job for $8.00/hr., previous job paid $6.75 - I was rich!!!

Hi Kristine and Gean - You are missing out on a beautiful Southern Ontario fall day. Outside closing up the garden for the winter and it was above 20 DegC and sweating lots. I have to enjoy that while I can.....But kidding, you are not missing out, you know what it is all about and you are having way more fun where you are, lol. I agree with your list. Part of the "what skills do you have and how can you make money on them". Good example for making money but also getting fresh air and exercise is lawn and garden care in the summer and/or snow removal in the winter. Lots of people want help with this and are willing to pay cash to those doing the work. With a handful of houses and driveways to take care of within a stones throw of your house, can keep busy and put a few bucks in your pocket. I am looking forward to doing some volunteer work at the local golf course. I work for free and they give me free golf in exchange for a few days a week worth of work. It is not income but when it saves money for something you want to do anyways, it is very much like making some money and also being social with a group of like-minded folks. Anyway, enjoy the rest of your weekend. Some of us are back to work tomorrow......! Craig from Hamilton

We hVe heard that you are all having a bit of a late summer back in Ontario! It's great to get outside and work in the yard. That is one thing that we are missing a bit here.... and the changing colours! Your ideas for helping out your neighbour's are great, and I'm sure there are so many that could use the helping hand as well 😉 Trading services is also a great way to save or "make" extra income! So many benefits, you stay busy, get to socialize, do something you enjoy, get free golf out of the deal... and you don't have to pay any tax! 😉🤗 Hope you're having a great week... even though you're back at work 😉

@@FIREWeGo I agree completely with the "Tax Free" comment. It is something I think about a lot. How can i stay in Canada (Ontario) and minimize taxes? Do I have to leave and find a new tax-friendly home? I would love for you both to do a video on pros and cons of tax residency as part of retirement strategy, unless you have already and I just need to find it......!! HOpe you are both doing well 🙂

Hello Gean and Kristen. Tudo bem! I’m a new member of your channel joined a few days ago. I’m very inspired by your FIRE journey as well as your investment condo in Joao Pessoa. I’m hoping to learn about the real estate market of Joao Pessoa from you. Is it possible to get in touch with you and which way do you prefer to communicate? Much appreciated!

Did i miss the section on your videos on how you have American credit cards? You need an American address? 🤔 It goes without saying that travel hacking is much more lucrative with US cards.
@FIREWeGo2 ай бұрын
You haven't missed a video 😉 We do have an address we use in the US for business purposes. We have family there. They are definitely more options in the states, but Canada has a few really good options, too. We have thought of creating videos on this, but aren't too sure how many people would be interested!
