I explained above !! REAL breaststroke is (was) sidewards. This style as as promoted is "Jumping stroke". World championships and olympics should place it under the correct name and set APART from braststroke. The one is not better then the other, it's a completely different swimming style. As if you would promote butterfly stroke ALSO as the better version of breaststroke. Complete nonsense. International swimming federations MUST take action, and re-install the original breaststroke as a contest style.

I am going to be 70 years old in a few months. I was a champion breaststroker as a kid, and I just got back in the water. Had to have a TKR so that I could do the breast stroke again! Great video.The kick is, indeed, much narrower than in 1960.

I've been swimming regularly (twice a week) since September last year (7months) and it's only this last month I've been brave enough to wear goggles. Now swimming is totally different for me and the time goes so quickly because I'm concentrating on breathing properly so I don't drown 😂. Before goggles I was just swimming breaststroke with my head above the water, after using goggles I was breathing every other stroke and putting my head under, but I knew I could improve. I watched this video before I went today and I went from 34 lengths in 31 mins yesterday to 37 lengths in 32 mins today. Also my pace increased by 10 seconds per 100m. I felt slower but your video was playing in my head and I was concentrating on streamlining, pulling heels to butt, not too wide kick, breathing every pull and gliding. It felt so amazing, best swim ever (so far) ❤ thank you!!

My breaststroke use to be my fastest stroke until I quite swimming breaststroke and then my knees started hurting. It was the easiest one for me to learn. They showed me pull, kick, glide and then I loved it. So why do I go faster when slowing down my stroke and why do you say don’t swim breaststroke slow. It seems more powerful with a slower stroke.

Thanks for the video. I didn't understand the 'countdown drill section'. I understand reducing the stroke numbers, but you cover a 25m length in 5 strokes and reduce this to 2 strokes?? I can certainly follow the drill, but my stroke count per length is much higher than 5. Does that seem reasonable?
@user-Dumbunny2 жыл бұрын
2 + pulldown probably corresponds to someone who swims 50 meters Br in under 30 seconds, 5 + pulldown for someone who swims it in 45 seconds, and 8 + pulldown for someone who swims it in 60 seconds. Also, elite swimmers don't have to worry about popping up to the surface when they lose momentum like the rest of us because they have very little fat on their bodies.

starting swimming young my legs never cooperated during breast so i was doing it wonky for years, got dq'd the first time i did an IM in junior high on the modified team and coaches were like nope you're not doing that again lol, but they never helped me correct my stroke and just made me focus on my stronger strokes, i wish i had these videos then. years later i finally taught myself how to do it decently and man it is so hard to retrain your body after doing something wrong for so long and wow i just wrote an essay i am so sorry i just miss swimming hehe

Love the water but never learned the kicks.. now after kids I want to get my self back to a shape I like and I'm wantingnto try swimming. I'm so nervous that I'll do things wrong or that I won't have good lap pool etiquette.. Thanks for your videos, hopefully I won't seem so lost

Learning to swim at 65. Hard work.. Watching vidéos.. I'm trying my best and hopefully moving to the sea soon. It feels different when it's all blue underneath...

Actually a lot of these techniques you encourage are things I've been trying out lately, especially the narrower kick and using my whole arms with my arm strokes, as well as that "icing the cake" method. Basically shortening my arm strokes helped me swim a lot faster than I usually do. I only do slow breast strokes for warm up, because well, breast stroke is the only swim technique I know lol. Never tried freestyle. Dunno where to even start with it. I know how to do backstrokes as well though, but I'm very anxious with them and always panic after a few seconds, so I don't do it often. I float really well on my back, it's just scary not being able to see where I swim. So I panic because I dunno where tf I'm swimming.
