This was so on point! I agree with everything you said. Wish I would have seen a video like this when I first got into plants 😂 I'm a huge hoya head and now I make myself wait for weeks/months before I buy a new one that I feel I really want. I've not regretted buying a single one since I started doing that.

IKR. Totally makes your collection more meaningful instead of a bunch of someone else's favorites. Thanks for watching!

Yes! I did all that you mentioned and have already corrected myself....I researched plants that I see the first time in person while I'm in the store because now we can Google on our phones....I only buy medium size plants as I used to buy baby plants that are not established yet and easy to kill bec it was very cheap...I also refuse to go on plant hypes like Philo Princess as the pink variegation is not stable enough, also when ppl go on ggaga on splashes and variegated plants, first of all they need more light exposure to keep their splashes and lighter colors, and like me I don't want plants that need special care like greenhouses or cabinets with grow lights and fan for air circulation and certain humidity. In other words I don't care for high maintenance or DIVA plants! And you're right about propagations, it increase the real estate of your space but on the other hand we learn something when we try to save our plants from dying...but at the same time I don't have the patience anymore waiting for results of our experimentations so yeah just stop stop stop...and sometimes when a plant dies it's okay to let go because we can buy another different kind😂 Thank you for reminding us how crazy we can be with our passion with plants...it should continue to keep us happy and if not...give them away, don't save it anymore, but if you really really love it, buy another one and a third one but that's it for me, third strike you're out!😂😂😂

@nmchai9333 yup!!! 100% I totally had the no diva plants rule too. This year I wanted to step out of the box and try a few select “DIVA” plants that I thought were absolutely beautiful. So far so good. No drama. Except with some of my Hoya which weren’t supposed to be DIVAS. 😅

All good advice! Pretty much sums up to don’t hoard plants. I also agree on being careful about big plants. I see many people even on KZbin showing a pot of mid size monsteras with 3-4 stems. After my experience with my deliciosa and Thai constellation, I reckon 1 stem is all you need. They get large and in charge. Like LARGE. Sooner or later the plants will be fighting each other. 1 stem with good support is all you need.

Exactly! It’s better to have one beautiful plant than a overcrowded one. 😊🪴

Hello Steph, very grateful for your valuable advice. I am making several of those mistakes, my current addiction is hoyas🙈, I have decided not to buy more due to lack of space because the little ones will grow and I think I will face serious problems today. Greetings from Peru 🌿🇵🇪

👋🏽 SAME! I just did a Hoya collection video and wondered what am I going to do when these 48 Hoya mature. I’m going to cap myself too. We live and we learn. Quality not quantity. 💡 🪴 greetings from Canada 🫶🏽

I will have to save and rewatch daily lol. Come on don’t you see new plants in videos and suddenly HAVE to have them? I learned to stay off Palm Street and some other sites. The shipping costs can be more than the plant itself.

hehe. I won't stop you. Knowing what I like and not wanting to have duplicates or plants that look too similar has helped with that feeling alot. Still not easy though hehe.

I have made all these mistakes. My collection is up over 200 plants now and I find that some do not bring me joy. I have plants outside in "rehab" for the summer and now that its cold I had to make some tough decisions and just let some go. Things that climb and need larger moss poles just get to be a pain. But the good news is I have more room for more Hoyas!

1: yes! I’ve gotten pretty good at letting go this year, but still have some left I could definitely part with! I definitely threw some out recently that I didn’t feel right about selling, saveable, but too rough 2: I don’t do duplicates unless I plan on putting them together! Yes! Check! I’ve got so many I don’t need doubles! 3: I stopped over propagating too! Yay! I’ve only got 4 types right now, I’m winning so far!! I quickly realized I didn’t know enough planty people to give them too 🤷♀️ unless I propagate something expensive or I wanna fill out a plant I have. 🤷♀️ 4: definitely!! I did this at the beginning too, ran out of space for the small plants and got overwhelmed, now it’s 1-2 at a time! And more medium sized ones if possible too, more robust! 5: guilty!!! Lost a few that way 6: oops… but I also check matured pics and care … mostly 7: I like buying small and watching them mature, way more satisfying than buying big for me, I’ve bought 3, hubby bought a white bird of paradise, I bought a big curly 3 plants in the pot dracaena, and a palm, otherwise it’s fun to get them to mature in my care! Learned that from the pink princess too 😂

You’re right, we as plant lovers do a lot of those things because we want more and more, but when it is enough? I don’t know if you have done this before I haven’t noticed it in your other videos, talking to 2 cameras but if not, keep doing it, it’s very interesting and adds dynamism to your videos 🎉

Exactly! Balance is so important or else it all becomes a burden. I’ve used two cameras before but it’s my first time using it in this way. I appreciate the feedback. Thank you. 😊🪴

What a great video!!! Guilty as charged 😅! I must confess that with some specimens I ended my relationship by binning them... I remember a few that I was certainly NOT in love with, and that gave me constant problems - out they went! Philodendron pink princess? Amen! Bought it following a hype, just because I found it dirt cheap at some supermarket... "Why?!" I keep asking myself: I don't like its shape, I hate pink... I just recognized the name and the price was low (yay me!). And that brings me to a mistake I personally make: I live in Poland where you can find pot plants in almost every market, and it's not uncommon to find an Alocasia Frydek Variegata for $ 5 (just a two-leaf plant, but still!). What I do [far too often!!!] is I pity the plant because of the condition it's in or because I know the staff will not water it properly - dah, that's SUPERMARKET staff! - so I feel the need to take it home to save it from its fate. Unfortunately, more frequently than not I AM the one to neglect it 😟 And finally, one can sometimes not see the trees for the forest, to paraphrase the proverb: I feel zero joy when I look at my cramped plants, and I'd rather have few displayed to give them a chance to shine and be a real focal point in my rooms; why do I keep dragging new ones into my house 🙈??? All the best, plant parents 🪴 Beata
