I am old enough to remember when an English person would never say "are you excited for the movie?" We used to say 'looking forward to' or 'excited about' and we used to say 'film' more than 'movie'. Times change I suppose. I don't think accents in the UK are changing dramatically and neither is spelling but in terms of structures and vocabulary American English is gradually becoming the norm in the UK even among English teachers. By the way, even "good job" is an imported Americanism. In fact, in colloquial British English 'it's a good job' or just 'good job' means something quite different to 'well done.'

I say it as as'k'd or ask'd with a soft d sound (using ' to indicate a break in sound but not syllable, I use - for a break in syllable). But I can see where doing it with a t sound would be easier.

What about "kissed" and "used" I think both of them sounds similar, but they are on different lists 🤔
@wobaguk3 жыл бұрын
@@TonyCyr They sound a bit similar but are different. 'Kissed' is like 'sssss' and 'used' is 'zzzzzz' like sap vs. zap, zzz is voiced. However 'used' can get a bit softened in some contexts so its harder to tell the difference. 'Used' as in 'I used to study spanish' is more sssss, but "I used the last pencil" is more zzzzzz. "I used to" is probably that way because of the way we link them together: "I yoostoo"

I am a big fan of your work as a tutor/ teacher. As usual, your video lessons are informative and educational. Congratulations on your outstanding work. However, besides the voiced and unvoiced details you clearly explained in this video, I would humbly suggest the addition of a short appendix containing a list of ending letters that lead to these different pronunciations in the suffix "-ed" in regular verbs. By that I mean, whenever "past tense" and "past participle" regular verbs end in f, p, s, k, sh, ch, gh, x or ke, use the /-t/ sound. The ones that end in te, de, t or d, use the /-id/ sound. All other endings use the /-d/ sound. I hope this suggestion can help. Please keep up the great work you do online.

Though I still have difficulty in trying due to my very thick javanese accent. This vid gives me the answer. Thank you.
