I was looking into maybe transferring a couple of my namecheap domains that were about to renew to cloudfare to save a few bucks but it looked like too much of a hassle. Finally, I was able to find a coupon code for my renewal and I applied it to my namecheap domains getting almost the same price I would've gotten with Cloudflare. Guys, always google renewal coupon codes for your registrar before renewing! You may be saving good $ and avoid the hassle of transferring them. And try different ones also! I tried with two at first, but the third coupon worked!

Cloudflare domains does not allow you to change the nameservers. That’s one of the caveats I cover in this video. You will need to use Cloudflare DNS to point the domain to your website.

Cloudflare makes a ton of money on their enterprise services. They aren’t hurting for money at all, and they have said they are offering this at cost domain service as a passion project to better the Internet. I get being skeptical, because companies are here to make money, but I would think of it like a massive corporation like Google or Apple offering some free storage space on a server with your account. It’s nothing to them as far as resources go, and they are focused on bigger things.

Stay as far away from Cloudflare as you can, nothing is free. I am a Cloudflare customer and if you do not fall into one of their "paying tiers" you get no customer service and responses (if any) will be cut and paste responses which will never address the problem. Guys like this one touting Cloudflare have no clue how Cloudflare actually works, I kid you not it will be an absolute nightmare. If you don't believe me try it for yourself lol but don't say I didn't warn ya!! It's impossible to change nameservers with this cheap domain trap. Cloudflare = Absolute Hell = Cheap Domain = Traps made by guys like these to lure you into paying more. I'm speaking from first hand experience.

Let's face it. Every company is entitled to make some profit. There are running cost that selling a domain "at cost" would not serve the company a good deal and it will collapse very soon after. Cloudflare is selling a lot of things and probably that selling domains "at cost" for this company is a way to attract customers to sign up for other domains/hosting/services related to their needs and this is where Cloudflare is making its money. I think you are a bit harsh in your statement saying "why are the other registrars charging more than cost price?"... Not sure if you run your own business. Maybe you do with KZbin. You have probably either run or work for another company. Imagine how much you would get paid if there is no profits, I mean if a product is not sold with a margin for the company to pay salaries and other expenses...

You can forward to coming to external nameservers with NS record in cloudflare for subdomains but I haven't tried it with the root @ .

Instead of pointing to a "nameserver", you need to ask your host which IP address you should point your A record to. Then, you can create an A record for yourdomain.com and www.yourdomain.com pointing to the IP address of the web host's server. Cloudflare is a manual DNS manager, so you will have to configure the DNS yourself if you choose to register your domains at Cloudflare.

@@lucahoffmann8695I imagine their host may require using their own DNS, but Cloudflare also requires you to use their DNS. Cloudflare is great is you don't mind using Cloudflare's DNS. If you plan on using DNS elsewhere, Cloudflare sucks. Depends on what you need.

I bought a domain from cloudflare a while back and its been sitting unused. I genuinely regret it to be honest Before buying I couldn't find anywhere it stated you need a business account ($200/month) just to change nameservers effectively rendering the domain useless

You could always transfer it to another registrar. As transfers usually add a year on top of whatever remaining time the domain had, you won't lose out. I've actually done this in the past where I transferred a domain out to a registrar that had a great deal on renewals, added a load of years, then transferred back to my preferred provider all in the same day.

May be a hornets nest of problems because they require that they be your Primary DNS server. This requires a full setup and hidden fees.

Cloudflare has no hidden fees. They’ve always had a forever free plan for basic DNS.
