these dirty combustion engine cars 😂 😂 what about all the pollutants it takes to make energy efficient cars.... the batteries, all the parts metal and plastic.. it's not like it doesn't put any pollutants out and on top of it it's not economical for majority of people to just go out and buy a brand new car ( new to them) honestly at this point we're fuked it doesn't matter I just took the most depressing college course ever and we haven't even seen the total effects of the pollution from the industrial revolution so yeah we should cut it back maybe slow it down but that's not really going to happen in a global level so whatever..... we're f*****

I use only used motor oil on outdoor wood projects. I don't dilute it and just wipe it on with a brush. Usually needs re-treatment every 2 years. It's free and makes the wood last for a very long time - treated or not.
@heathhill78022 ай бұрын
I use 50% diesal and 50% motor oil The test isnt really a good indicator. A peice of wood your going to spray on is . Its the fibers in the wood that catch fast . Doing another heavy coat shortly after ir drys helps close up the the pores in the wood , less pores = less air = better fire retention. Any wood with motor oil and diesal will be more flammable even after it drys , but the key is to seal it. Many coats gives it an oxygen barrier.

I've been staining my fence with used oil. I even did my deck last year. You're right tho, the color does fade slightly but it still repelled water. I used a roller on my fence so i could just dip it in the oil bucket and go. A sprayer did not work as well for me
@demonstare12 ай бұрын
A roller sounds like a good idea. I don't want, need, or have a sprayer, but want to do my fence. Was trying to guess how long it'd take by hand, but a roller would be way faster than a brush. Not so daunting a task it seems. Thanks, brother

Looks better than other videos I've seen where they use the old engine oil neat. Adding the thinners gives it a lighter more professional look. 👍

Thin with diesel fuel and spray on with one of those pump sprayers.

Is there a formula for an old red wood deck that will dry and not come off on you shoes? Also, will this aid in repelling termites and yes, termites will eat red wood... Very informative and well put together video! TIA

If you include diesel, it is pretty strong for about the first week after applying.

Using old rancid gasoline works well too, most of the isomers making it flammable have evaporated.

If I touch the fence after it drys will I have oil residue on my hand? Or is it pretty clean after it drys?

It is pretty dry where I am at, but I would say after a couple days it will be fairly dry to the touch.

Great video! I remember my relatively small fence at my last house cost over $1000 to have professionally stained- this would have saved me so much money. I have dozens of gallons of used oil. If only I had a fence to stain now...

In Austria it is illegal to stain wood or anything else in engine oil.

Change your own oil, and use a stain bucket as a drain pan. No one will ever know without lab results. Don't let em get that close.

Do you run synthetic or conventional oil?

Either should work for staining. I typically run synthetic.
