Let's talk about that annoying popping that you get when you do leg lifts. Have you ever experienced that? Maybe you're doing hanging leg lifts at the gym, or you're doing leg lifts on the floor and you’re like, "Why am I getting this annoying popping in my hip or back in my SI joint?"
I see this all the time, and it can be a few different causes, but one of the main reasons that I see this is a little bit of instability. Basically, you get a little wobbly when you go to do the exercise. You end up with a tendon popping, usually over a bursa sac.
Now let's dig a little bit deeper and talk about what we might be able to do to stop that.

Thanks for the tips! Remembering to keep my core engaged helped. I was feeling weird cuz it only happened deep in my left hip when dropping my left leg down slowly. I thought it was weakness, but going up was easy. I realized that my abs were super loose, so I tensed my core a bit and that helped! Maybe there’s some inner muscle weakness at play here, like you said!

For years I’ve done leg lifts and been so annoyed that my hips would pop with every lift. After watching this video I finally realized I wasn’t focusing on my upper body so I was leaning and making my body unaligned, so after focusing on keeping both sides my ribs, lower back, and pelvic bone on the ground, I stopped rotating so much and now I don’t get the popping anymore!!! It is very alarming when this happens to you. Even more alarming that conventional health professionals seem incapable of explaining what is going on. Really good explanation of the background causes of those pops and clunks. I found that tracking both legs for the same amount of times, eventually realigned the femur with pelvis. Still needed to strengthen and engage the other muscles in that area, so that their imbalance was corrected.

when i do leg lifts on my back, my left side pops in a weird place-- it feels like it's more in my back than my hip. when i lower the leg parallel to the ground and straighten it out, i feel and hear the pop. no pain, just like a shift or pop. happens when i extend/lower just the left leg, or both legs at once. the left side always pops. again, towards my lower back/tailbone area.

this is a really important video, can't find any other on the subject ; thank you so much! could you go a little more in-depth with regards to clunking in the lower back/SI Joint? could it be the iliopsoas rubbing over something(?) cause it's too tight (similar to how the iliopsoas rubs against the iliopectineal bursa in snapping hip syndrome), and hence requires a little stretching?

Great video. I have one question which is for a similar exercise. When doing the dead bug exercise I get a clicking/popping in my left lower back when I lower the right leg. I am embracing my core as best I can and there is no pain. Is it something that will go away as maybe my core gets stronger? It is a little strange that it only happens on one side.
@CoreExerciseSolutions
@CoreExerciseSolutions 3 жыл бұрын
I would have to see you move to know for sure what is going on but is your ribcage staying down and connected (like I talk about in this video) while your leg is lowering? Take a video of yourself doing the exercise and watch it back. That can be very helpful to see what is going on!

I am a hobby triathlete. I only found my way to the sport three years ago and since then competed in a a couple of half-distance tris. I'm not a natural born runner, but I have been steadily improving on the run and finished my first marathon last fall as well. For the past three months or so I have been struggling with an annoying injury that is keeping me from putting in the work. As far as I can tell it was not brought on by any specific activity (e.g. very long run or high volume week) or any accident. In short, after runs I feel pain in my left hip. I feel the pain both in my groin area and where the femur head inserts into the hip socket at the lower end of my glute. And the pain gets way stronger when I bend forward with straight legs (or if I lie on my back and lift my straight left leg). In addition, I also started getting pain in my abs after longer runs. The only clear asymmetry I notice (which I suspect is the underlying cause) is a popping/cracking sound I feel (and hear?) in my lower left back near the SI joint when I move my leg in certain ways. In particular side-leg lifts or hurdle-moves. With every rotation or leg lift there is either a single or a double pop I feel in my lower back. I stretch/do yoga daily (often for about an hour) now with focus on the hip and legs. I incorporate the exercises from the Myrtle Routine, as well as other exercises supposedly designed to increase hip strength, flexibility, and/or stability. Often the stretching gives some relief, but it never deals with the underlying issue. I was struck by your explanation in the second half of the video around popping/cracking in the lower back. Both because you describe it as 'clunking' which really seems spot on, but also because of the connection to the abs. I have two questions: 1) Have you come across folks that get similar pain in the groin and abs after running that could be related to the popping/cracking/clunking in the lower back? 2) Is core strengthening the only thing that you know will help to combat the popping/cracking/clunking in the lower back? Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts. Best... mario
@CoreExerciseSolutions
@CoreExerciseSolutions 2 жыл бұрын
Oh, those are good questions. Unfortunately, I can't really answer them without an assessment. But, yes, the pain in those areas could be related to the same weakness that's causing the clunking. Core strengthening is not the only thing there is to do, but it can be a good starting point.

Hi! Do you have any suggestions on what I could do to fix this 😭 thank you 😢
@CoreExerciseSolutions
@CoreExerciseSolutions 4 жыл бұрын
Not really, I'd need to see you move first. I don't think a warm up and cool down necessarily means you're using the right movement patterns. warmups just help to keep you safe from straining something due to cold muscles, unless the warm up is very specific to certain muscles you'd like to promote activation in.

Hi, I have been suffering low back pain for 4 years and have managed to keep doing very physical work with the help of side planks. Planks then stopped helping so tried pigeon pose which worked for a few months. No they don't work. I get the clicking on left side of lower back. Do you think strengthening abs would help?

Have you watched this video that goes through things that can cause SI joint pain (your description makes it sound like an SI joint could be clicking possibly?)? Maybe you could get some clues from this video to determine the next best steps. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oIHXdHRmhsdgnsU

Hi, I also experience the same but my main concern is it hurts. Whenever I raise my left leg, the pain starts when I lower it down with the pop. I had to stop exercising my lower abs because of the pain which frustrates me. I'm afraid its gonna affect my workout routine in the long run if I don't recover from this 😔 Is this fixable?

@@dipeshbhatta3135 that's my main concern. I slowly tried going back to those exercises after a long break. I saw a big difference but as I said before, I still feel pain at times. What I do in that situation is, when my left leg is lift up (that's the side that's in pain) when I release it down, I internally rotate my leg and then I slowly put it back down. That way I don't feel any pain or hear any popping of the muscle.

It can vary depending on the person! - Try working through what I demo in the video and see what you can come up with! Often it can be due to a rib flare or your pelvis shifting as you lift a leg.

Should we go to thw chiropractor to align the misalignment??
@CoreExerciseSolutions
@CoreExerciseSolutions 4 жыл бұрын
If the misalignment is due to a muscle pulling the bone out of place then a chiropractor visit probably won't provide lasting relief. You need to work on finding which muscle is tight and strengthening the weak muscles that are causing the tight muscle to overcompensate and cause the misalignment. Does that make sense?

@CoreExerciseSolutions 4 жыл бұрын
@@blueshades98 Are you able to keep your rib down while doing it? Hard to say without seeing you, but maybe try slowing down to make sure things are staying engaged correctly. It could be that the harder movement is making other muscles compensate and you are losing that good rib engagement you had when you were doing the simpler leg lifts resulting in the popping coming back.
