Procrastinating so that I don't need to find out that I can't follow through is a huge one for me. I am afraid of having evidence that I am not good enough so I choose not to try in the first place. I think what is on my mind from this video is something about not trying to resolve everything all at once. You have said this before and I think I'm guilty of this. When I decide to do something(or resolve a problem) I want it over and done immediately.
@reneekoonce65323 жыл бұрын
Hello, I just started watching your videos recently and so far I feel like you are talking directly to me. Procrastinating weighs so heavily on a persons mind and I think that causes further procrastination. I have even thought of becoming a minimalist lately because I can’t clean out my closet or the corner of stuff in my bedroom because everything is full. To fix this I would have to have a garage sale or pack things up to give away. All this is more to think about. It just seems to go on and on. I will finish watching to see what your answer is. Thanks for your videos. ❤️

HI Julia, as someone with schizophrenia I don't procrastinate at all instead I prioritise (as you've mentioned else where, the importance of priorities), so growing up my Mother and Father would see how messy my room is and they would label me as a lazy procrastinator when in fact I like my room cluttered and have other more important things to do than create order for other peoples benefit.

Thanks! One video suggestion you could do is on self-care actions. For example my wife insisted we replace our mattress and I was amazed at how much better I could sleep and feel good. Also for over 25 years I was in doom-loop with anxiety/depression and debt where I would feel anxious and/or depressed and then overspend and then feel worse afterwards. After getting my finances fixed, I had this great sense of relief and calm when I saw we had $5000 in our emergency fund

I’ve been struggling with this the whole year. I knew I’ve always had struggles with procrastination because of my perfectionism and add. But since the lockdown I’ve been having trouble get anything done to the point where i put so much pressure on myself that now I can’t enjoy anything anymore. The only thing that I am able to do everyday is going for a walk. I’m trying to build it slowly but I feel like it’s going to take so long to build my life again. I want my writer’s block to go away so badly. I am going to try to keep your words in mind and take rest. My therapist tells me as well to do so. I know I’ve been through a lot but my mind keeps telling me to do this or that or else I am bad so it’s hard to accept. I’m learning to accept it and that those thoughts are not fair to myself.

Bernie here .The solution always seem to relate to what I learnt in treatment. Like the book I read Don’t Feed The Monkey Mind and closed loop thinking . Getting a positive attitude and taking action and relax like you said don’t push so hard it’s hard in our society to do that because we rush rush rush to try and achieve something beyond ourselves that was a Buddha Quote . Just get it done and do the best you can it will all work out in the end if we just take action .

Great video Julia! I tend to procrastinate because I want to avoid that feeling of failure. Another thing is sometimes other people put high expectations on me (like my family, bosses, teachers, friends, etc), and I tend to procrastinate because I want to avoid that feeling of being a failure in front of those people, and avoid them criticizing me because of my failure. So there's this fear of disappointing others.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge and expertise in the mental health arena. I am on the brink of getting my master’s licensure for social work... schools out of the way but the licensure part seems like it is looming over head. Between some previously ongoing hardships/ huge stressors and grad school in general I have felt some pretty severe burn out. I am trying to create boundaries and get myself on back on track, but it is hard. My question is how do you see burn out and procrastination converge and how do you address this within a timely manner? Ie I take my test in a month, and I want to be more efficient but some days I am having a VERY hard time sticking to a study plan.

I wish you had talked more about the solutions for getting out of procrastination, than why we procrastinate. I personally know very well why I am procrastinating something... because it’s going to take a long time and a lot of effort from me, and I don’t have either the time or the effort anymore to embark in big projects that will take long.
@smms9053 жыл бұрын
To paraphrase a movie i love, there are 2 things stopping us from doing something we want: fear or laziness. I'm a serial procrastinator, and when there's a task i keep putting off, i ask myself, am i too intimidated by the task that I don't want to start? or do i just not want to do the leg work? It doesn't always push me to get started but it tells me that maybe i should ask for help and reassurance if its too scary, or just carve a time out if its too tedious.

I've been procrastinating for about 2 weeks now. And from what you said, it's ego and I don't want to fail. I want to start a vtuber channel and I haven't even picked out my channel name yet. Don't get me started on banner art or channel description. I've tried watching and copying other videos about how to start a youtube channel, but perfectionism stops me dead in my tracks. Then I look at all the people in the vtuber community and start comparing my b-roll to their highlight reel and think that I'll never be that good, so why even start.
