The cable next to the exhaust must be hot as hell while charging+in use !

True. You can bend it a bit out of the way, but it’s not great. A better designed port and cable location would have been better.

You're just doing it wrong, you're supposed to plug the USB the other way with the lead going right, away from the vent

That’s not how it’s showing in their marketing and I don’t think the cable supplied will not reach around the other way. But they would make more sense if it did reach.
