There is but requires hardware and charging the tablet at the same time is a problem. I’ll be doing a video on it at some point soon. I just need to do a few reviews and top 5s first. So maybe end of next month or early March

If you mean you have a VW ID.4, this car should already have wireless Android Auto. So there's no need for an adapter unless you're seeking video playback like KZbin? If that is the case, then you'd need an AI Box. like one of these kzbin.info/www/bejne/gJranaiafsZ2r6s

The biggest issue with these adhesive stickers is that they don’t want to stick to car dashboards because the dash isn’t completely smooth and flat - it’s full of air pockets as part of the pattern.

That’s true but I’ve used many mounts that haven’t come loose from a rough patterned dashboard material. There’s some adhesives that are good at that. The trick is to mount the display so it rests its chin on the baseboard. That way there is less ‘pull’ on the adhesive plate.

Because it requires more touch input than any other app. And in the vehicle alone, it’s probably the number one (or two behind a music app) that most people will be using in CarPlay. I’ll be curious to know, what other CarPlay features would you focus on?

There isn’t a way because there’s no input connections other than power. If they supported wired CarPlay, wireless video casting, TF card slots or USB media, then it would have been possible.

Hi. Do you know if your steering wheel controls work with this model? Also, can you make calls via your car's microphone with the device? Only ask as I don't believe this model gas dual BT compared to the 901 which does. Thanks

At 17:30 you see me use wheel controls via BT. This is the only way because you’re basically controlling your phone with BT audio. As for the microphone, my demo was incorrect. Because I tapped the receiver phone (android) where I should have been listening on the android earpiece for my voice. I don’t have the display anymore but it should use the car mic if it has one and uses it for BT calling.

Thanks for this roundup. I’ve finally had it with my current wireless adapter and need an upgrade. For future videos, I’d love it if you could explain how some of the features you mentioned worked. For example, in this context I would like to know what “audio delay” is doing in the devices that have it. I would also like to know what the various startup times relate to. I guess a lot of it comes down to me not understanding basically how carplay connects, and why there would be separate bluetooth and wifi connection times. I had thought that wifi was the primary connection for Carplay. Does it also connect via bluetooth? Anyway, thanks again. I’ll be checking these out.

I always planned to do a run down of the config menus. I’ll add that to the list. Audio delay or media delay it is also called basically adjusts the millisecond delay of audio to visual data. A bit like a buffer of what you’re seeing and hearing. You can’t set this to 0. Usually 500-1000 is the default. 300-400 is best but anything less will incurs performance issues, skipping in audio and freezing in visuals. Start times vary and are effected by car system start up, Bluetooth discovery and pairing time, plus hand-off time to WiFi before you see anything onscreen. Usually chip speeds, BT and WiFi hardware and optimisations improve the outcome here. I’ll touch more on this and other features and settings in a future video. Thanks for watching

Hi, I have a Golf 7.5 with an 8 inch screen with a resolution of 800x480 pixels... From what I see the 6225 performs better than the 660 but you like the 660 more for the quality of videos on KZbin but my screen doesn't even reach full HD... Do you still recommend the 660 over the 6225? Regards

It really depends what 6225 Ai Box. There are fine functioning Ai boxes that I mention in this video with 6225 chips in that don’t have this issue. On paper the 6225 is the better option. It’s just some brands have this issue and I think it’s CarlinKit and brands that share their platform (Binize, Linkifun) that suffer with this issue. Outside KZbin I also find issues with gaming over 660 and 6125 boxes. There is just more visible stuttering. That said, the 6225 boxes that don’t have the issue run better with games too. So it feels like a memory leak or something that’s software based. I’ve been working with Linkifun to trouble shoot this issue on their GT7H. But with Chinese new year holiday, I have to wait until feb until I hear back how they getting on and if this issue is fixable via software updates.

I’m not quite sure as to what the thinner protector is out there but saying that most protectors are tempered glass they’re all gonna have some level of thickness to them. I think you need something what some brands called screen guard, most of them are matt or privacy coated but there are a few transparent ones out there. I never tried them myself. Seeing the AppleCare comes with two free screen replacements, you could just get part of going naked on the screen surface. Both if you’re gonna be trading it up in a year’s time then I see your point, I am just the same.

@ lol! My last phone was the 13 pro max. Only reason I upgraded was because I lose cellular access to that phone. Verizon things it was the hardware since on their end, I was active. I didn’t bother getting it looked at with apple since I’m not willing to pay a dollar to fix an old phone. I upgrade when the old phone no longer works, or is broken, and I am out of coverage. If that goes over the top and bottom of the case then probably not because that attachment plate won’t go round the case. it’s a tight fit as it is around the steam deck already.

It’s unlikely is just that they are resellers from a location where they are being made so they are much cheaper from that location. The only thing you have to factor in possibly that there might be shipping costs and any import duty or taxes when it arrives in your location. Otherwise it should pretty much be the same thing.

The Quadlock adapter came out of this looking really bad. I have one and find it great. Multi-user support was essential for me since I share the car with my partner. I find it pretty quick to boot and seems to have better audio and call quality than the CarlinKit 2Air which it is almost identical to. That was a big issue I had with that adapter. I got the Quadlock discounted on Black Friday, agree it is expensive!

The quad lock is a great adapter with one of the best config menu, it’s just not as competitive as the others and it now pairs quite slowly compared to its competition, which mostly let its performance down overall. Otherwise it’s great for booting and configuring and it’s a shame most adapters have steered away from multi user support.

RE: MMB Mini Adaptor. One problem I've just noticed is sat nav arrow orientation starting a new journey is pointing in the correct direction (using Apple Maps) when wired, but through the wireless adaptor it's incorrect (the arrow does correctly re-orientate when you start driving though). That's with the GPS pass through enabled. Not a biggie but it might confuse someone as they may go the wrong direction when they start the journey.

I was told the mini didn’t have GPS pass, but in my recent tests using Apple Maps it was locking the right direction that matched my main nav system and other adapters that does have GPS pass confirmed. I tried to be sure and I tested it again, with same results, so I don’t really know, maybe it varies between car systems so they are just covering themselves by saying it isn’t supported 🤷🏻♂️ I dunno

@@CarPlayLife I got the cuarko/bytewave wireless adaptor (your 3rd recommended) and if you set GPS to type 1 it works! The arrow is in the direction of my car so it looks like GPS passthrough works on this adaptor. Not as performant as your Number 2 recommended but I'm hopeful they introduce a configurable audio delay.

GPS pass was confirmed to me from Bytewave. Unless I messed up the table I should have said it was enabled. Its very close between this and the MMB to be honest. It is just a little bit better optimised.

I think its kind of stupid to mount a power bank to the steamdeck, most people dont walk around with their steamdeck while playing it. They would usually be sitting and in that case, just have a power bank in your pocket and hook up a charger to it. Although of course you could walk around with it and have the power bank in your pocket still, its better for weight distribution

Sorry I was just messing about. Personally a smaller bank to extend by a hour or two would be nice. Not a heavy behemoth like this one. Otherwise something sitting on the side is just as good. But usually sofa gaming on a deck usually has a wall outlet pretty close by. A plug and a long cable is way cheaper and has unlimited power. Failing that a brick will do :)

UPDATE: I just sold the EP460 on. I couldn't live with the much firmer woven seat material. This was also my first instant impression when sitting in the EP460 for the first few minutes, but over the last couple of months, sitting in the chair. for a few hours, my bottom feels a little numb from the firmness. I went back to my Secretlab gaming chair, but due to its poor lumber support (an issue with most gaming chairs these days - a lumber pillow just doesn't cut it, to be honest), I am going to sell this chair also and I am going to approach this differently. I'm going to utilise my standing desk much more and get a nicer-looking chair for shorter resting periods when seated. We humans spend far too much time sitting, and I'll quote something I heard in a video I watched recently "Sitting is the new smoking". A sedentary lifestyle isn't healthy, so I'm going to try and make use of my standing desk modes more and a smaller chair that sits underneath - such as the IKEA LÅNGFJÄLL series. This chair is enough to slide under the desk when raised and it has a surprisingly decent lumber support curve for what I hope to be shorter seated periods when the desk is lowered. I'll see how well all that goes :) Thanks for reading.

Got mine yesterday, and so far so good playing around with the maps, messages & phone apps. Do I need a Micro SD card inserted to operate the Dashcam as that part of the screen stays blank, it shows a Micro SD card logo with a red line through it presumably meaning it needs to be inserted. Anthony also mentions an app to transfer footage directly to your iPhone, what's that app called?

I think so yes but I’ve only tried it with a 4K model. As long as it has the adapter on the side for power so I can use the bridging cable connector.

The Pro is a 2in1 adapter as it also supports Android Auto, so it wouldn’t be included in this particular video. I will be doing a 2in1 top 5 in the future. I don’t have it yet but I’d guess it’s much the same but with AAuto support.

Thanks for the review. I just bought the MMB Mini (because it's tiny and fits into my Audi TT, which has a cubby hole sliding cover that also hides the USB ports) and I'm very pleased with it so far. Seems to take around 10 seconds to connect up after it's all setup. The only tweak l did was reduce the audio delay to 500ms. Software update was painless. Minor negative is when l turn the ignition off my car reminds me my phone is in the car (it would only do that if l was connected via a cable). You can turn this off from the car settings, or just play a short tone sound instead, which is what I've done.

Thanks for watching. The MMB mini is a great choice when your usb port is more visible in the car interior. 400-500ms audio delay really improves speeds over wireless. It’s a shame not all adapters support the ability to change that.

Hello. My car (Kia EV 6) connects to the fire stick but the screen just shows the HDMI lockscreen. It worked once but now it always gets stuck at the HDMI lockscreen and the light on the stick is not turning blue. Do you know what the issue could be ?

Hi. Check the fire stick is getting enough power. Also make sure the stick isn’t outputting HDR and 4K resolution, which isn’t likely supported by the car display. Only way to do that would be to plug it into a tv and set resolution to 1080p or 720p and turn HDR off. I would check those first.

Usually it’s in the floating button menu. Either as a rocket or trash can symbol. You can also go to multi task button in that menu and then select clear all to remove all running apps.

Calls don't work on mine. I mean, it shows no bluetooth device connected for taking calls and I had to use my phone to pick calls. On my phone Bluetooth >> smartBox-**** calls option is listed, but unable to enable it and throws error can't connect to smartBox-*****. any idea why calls won't work on AA using this?

You can’t set any value and I wouldn’t know how to test it, but I’m shooting at 60fps, and I’m guessing the display is 50Hz.

Another very helpful video, thank you. I currently have a Carlinkit v2 that I followed your recommendation to purchase some years ago. It has behaved flawlessly in my 2017 Passat with Discovery Pro. I seem to recall it cost over £100 at the time, amazing how cheap these new adapters are with their increased performance. I might just treat myself to the v5 Mini SE. Keep up the great work.

I've gone through two "CarlinKit Mini 5 SE Adapter" Both of them bricked. When I contacted support, it took forever, but they had me download some sketchy "Phoenix" software completely written in Chinese and do some weird reset thing while plugging in the adaptor to my computer. Anyway, it didn't work but now they won't return my emails. When it DID work, it was great. That's why I tried a second time. Bricking twice seems pretty bad.

Head into the IP config area on your phone once connected and add some delay to the media delay option. Try 1000 first and see if its stable then dial it back to around 500 at 100 intervals until it's unstable again.

Ah yes, that’ll be it. 400 - 500 is usually the edge of when it starts to fail. Try 500-600 and it should be fine. Every car handles this differently.

As promised, here is the first of a few Top 5 videos I have planned for 2025. This type of video takes time to put together and retest the adapters in their latest state, so I hope the wait was worth it, and I hope it helps anyone looking for one decide which wireless CarPlay adapter to buy. In this video, I narrowed my 12 review dongles down to my final 5. All the remaining 5 adapters are good in their own right, and when it comes down to it, many will behave differently in each CarPlay vehicle/system. So I recommend you buy from places like Amazon if you can, so you have an easier way to return them should it not work well with your car. The MIB 2.5 was from a seller on eBay, 2nd hand and pre-coded. The screen was from a seller also on eBay from Germany, so I had to pay customs duty when it arrived

That's a shame. It could be how your car handles them if it is consistent across a few of them. Did you try these ones, or was it some others?

Seeing as wired CarPlay only came in 2014, if your car does this then it’s pretty early days and explains how it is being handled. There’s also a chance that some of these adapters are using the same hardware inside so the experience will be much the same.

I’m pretty much say why in the video. The 6225 version has a bug with it that makes KZbin video of 720p or higher go nuts. Plus gaming isn’t as smooth. 660 can do 4K 30 where as 6225 can only do 1080p 60. Granted most car systems aren’t that high resolution but shows you there is an issue with video performance in its playback support.

Thank you for your review! It swayed me to go with this box. I have been using the box for 6mo or so without many issues. I stopped using it for a couple months and now it is painfully slow. Do you have any suggestions to get the performance back? Its so slow it cant play videos. It has plenty of available storage and is using 5/8gb of ram.

That’s odd. Memory should clear unless it has a ton of cache files. Try seeing if you can the cache data in the app area for each app you used regularly and see if that helps. You could also try resetting to factory and/or updating to any newer firmware from their support pages.
