Hi Ma’am, Do we need to use “since” time adverbial phrase only for present perfect?
@TheMindspringsEnglishTeacher4 жыл бұрын
Not really it can be used for reason. I didn't go since i had a headache. or it is long since i met them. or it was his first exhibition since 2009.
@livinglife33524 жыл бұрын
The Mindsprings English Teacher Sorry ma’am, i have put the question improperly. In tenses, usage of since is only for present perfect and present perfect continuous. Or can be used for other tenses as well?

In the family is used in the dictionaries. Carrying a child is also used though both are mentioned as old- fashioned then why we shouldn’t use it.

I have two older sisters.( wrong) I have two elder sisters. ( correct) Elder is used for family and older is used for relatives and outer people who are senior to you.
@TheMindspringsEnglishTeacher3 жыл бұрын
I have two older sisters is not wrong. It just means they are older than you. Elder and older are interchangeable if they are used before a noun as adjectives. Older than is a comparative but we cannot say elder than. Elder is also used as a noun in respect your elders, but (not olders),
@letsmakeenglisheasy552 жыл бұрын
Ma'am, should it be 'two elder sisters'??
@TheMindspringsEnglishTeacher2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I think it is ok to say 'I have to elder sisters' or 'I have two older sisters'. You use 'elder' for people and 'older' for things. The older building collapsed, not, The elder building collapsed. For the comparative degree we say : She is older than I am; not she is elder than me. She is elder to me not elder than me. (elder to/older than)

Ma'am is the question 'where will you live in London' ok instead of 'where do you intend to stay in London'
@TheMindspringsEnglishTeacher4 жыл бұрын
No. Where will you live is wrong. Where will you stay is correct. If you live in London the question will be: Where do you live in London? isn't it?

Indeed yes, if you are using English as an adjective of origin. I am using it as an attributive for profession. Luckily grammar is all about how you interpret the function. But good one. I enjoyed it.

If you say that you will do your level best to do something, you are emphasizing that you will try as hard as you can to do it, even if the situation makes it very difficult. This phrase in present in dictionaries then how is it wrong to say ‘ I will level my best to get good marks’
