Thanks so much. I have heard this before. They do come back. I know what's out there and I would say 90% of it is teaching moves the average golfer will never even be able to do. Plus, the average golfer doesn't practice enough and they want it instantly so they give up. My stuff is simple and easy to do. Just pick out a few things to work on the release then a few for the body. Grip and set up are important too. Stay focused on that.

Great tip as always Paul. I’ll try it out tomorrow. My main concern is leaning back on the downswing will cause my body weight to stay behind the ball (causing fat shots). We’ll see what happens. I know you have a tip for that with the trail foot moving forward.
@paulwilsongolf2 ай бұрын
Don't try to get everything at once which is what everyone does. Get the tilt. Then get the weight off the back foot to not hit it fat. If you hit it right the. Turn more. See? Steps.

Paul this is a terrific drill. I know you are focusing on the arms but I still see it as keeping with the body swing methodology. The drill is helping me to “un-train” my focus on hitting with my arms. I also notice that the clubhead stays behind my hands instead of ahead of my hands as is the case with an over-the-top swing.
@paulwilsongolf Жыл бұрын
Glad you liked it. It's been around but I usually don't teach it just because it gets people thinking arms plus I never need to have people do it to get them to hit it dead straight. I get them hooking it first then switch to body. If you like this one just do it slowly to train them to fall. As I said in the tip it's only 1/4 of a second to impact so swinging fast with this one won't give you the time to drop them. Seems like you are on track so keep at it.

Good stuff, Paul. This is something that I've always struggled with. A swing key that has worked for me is feeling like I'm keeping my back facing the target for as long as possible on the downswing. Doing this forces you to initiate with the lower body and attack from the inside.
@paulwilsongolf Жыл бұрын
You can certainly do that too. Just be careful you don't blow it right. A lot of people who do that get closed at impact. If you start blowing it right switch the thought to TURN as soon as you come down.

You are talking about nano seconds. If you move your body this moves the arms immediately. There is not a huge delay as your arms are connected to your body. Turn your body your arms move. If you pull down your arms when are you going to move your body. You only have 1/4 of second. As soon as you pull down your arms you will be hitting the ball with no body.

If you think you are firing the hips and coming over the top you are shifting too much too soon to the forward leg tilting your body forward sending it over the top. So as you start down the thought is TURN not shift. As you turn this tilts your body back and you attack from the inside. Also, turn the arms off. kzbin.info/www/bejne/maDKqplsis97bbc kzbin.info/www/bejne/oqGkppp6q8aenLc kzbin.info/www/bejne/bGXbhoCKmNehaKs kzbin.info/www/bejne/qZOoXpuwib2ahNE

So keep.doing it at 80% until you are good at it. You are wanting g too much too fast. Once you're ready add only a little more legs and hips. Build it up slowly.

Paul, Nicklaus always believed it was impossible to come over the top or hit too soon if you move to your front side..Doesn't your body swing automatically promote an inside square inside path?
@paulwilsongolf Жыл бұрын
Well I wouldn't say moving to left side would do it. Tons of people move to the left side and lean left. Lean left and you will swing left. So it's about body tilt. Now keep in mind back then they were taught to shift to start down. Shift laterally and your whole upper body tilts back so maybe this is what he was referring too. I like the thought to TURN to start down not shift. I too shifted and would regularly push the ball upwards of 100 yards right. So turn allowing the arms to be powerless so you are then using simple physics to shallow the plane. Watch: kzbin.info/www/bejne/maDKqplsis97bbc

@paulwilsongolf Жыл бұрын
Yep, this has wrecked so many swings. If you learned as an adult is it highly likely you will not be able to keep the arm extended. There are tons of pros who bent the arm. Look at Nicklaus, Watson, Daly, Freddy. If you had to keep the arm straight we would have never heard of these guys. What is important is you keep it straight at impact. Funny, I just saw a guy saying bending the arm at impact is the new impact position. Really? Can you not see that you need to bend the arm when you are super tilted? Truly mind boggling how people don't think. So now everyone will be fine doing their chicken wing. Unreal. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z4XMhWN5bb15aLc

Your arms are moving first from the top. I don't like the whole body moving down and forward as you go back. There is no left cheek showing it impact so you are not leading with your body (as much as you think you might be). I like the set up. Looks good then coil not leaning forward. This will get you on the toes as you go back plus it is leaning you forward. Checkpoint - Don't see your toes at all at the top. Right now you can probably see them. So you are actually sending it a little over the top when you start (arms first not body) then you are trying to re-route as the club is parallel to the ground in the downswing. So fix the coil first. Then you need to uncoil quicker allowing the arms to follow. Fix this leaning first.
@forr3st125 Жыл бұрын
@@paulwilsongolf thanks for the tips. I agree that I shouldn’t be bobbing my head down and forward at the start of the backswing, tough habit to break as are all bad habits. As far as not seeing your toes, is this more of a feeling I should have to keep from leaning forward? Because the pros heads are all forward of toes during entire swing where they would see their toes PGA swings kzbin.info/www/bejne/laXcfKmch7Rshc0

I do not want you bending over. I realize there are some pros doing this and now they are even teaching this. I am old school. I teach a taller swing not a bent over swing as seen in the best players of all time. This is not too tall though. Your set up is fine. This is what I teach. As you go back you are going down. I just don't want you to do that. I need you to think TURN going back allowing your head to move so your nose is over your right instep. Here is how to get it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fYnJhZ98rtOmbcU If you do that you will not see your toes at top. Your head and leaning forward will instantly be fixed.

@paulwilsongolf10 ай бұрын
They are not purposely sending it over the top. A pro move is night and day from an amateur. You can see the plane flattens when a pro does it. An am sends it over the top and it is steep. This occurs from hitting it with the arms which leans the person forward. Lean left when you start down and you will swing left. Need people to turn their arms off and use the body as the power source.
