I love that people can fix decades old bugs or improve old games. Then I play them on my Everdrive - so still OG hardware and controllers, just a special cartridge. That's my favorite way to play.
@ChaosGenerator7 күн бұрын
I love original hardware but prefer having save states on a lot of older games when a lot of older games don't have a backup battery, the battery is dead and you haven't fixed it, or the password system is nonexistent or crappy. I realize that flash carts often include that feature but that is often clunky to deal with or just doesn't exist on the version of flash cart you own. Thankfully Raspberry Pis offer composite output right out of the box via the 3.5mm jack and have a 4:3 build that you can use on CRTs fairly easily and 8bitdo offers quality Bluetooth controllers that feel so close to the original consoles you want to emulate and if you have the Switch Online line of controllers, it is even better.

I'm a physical collector of all the PlayStation generations and love having the physical games but a friend turned me on to a HDD for my PS2 fat with 630 games on it. Ever since I got the HDD i haven't touched a disc or turned on any of my other 8 consoles. This HDD is blowing my mind. I also really enjoy emulating all the 8&16 bit games I'd never be able to collect for PlayStation and all the other consoles too. I picked up a super console x for around $50 and have everything now. Collectors can't always have everything but emulators easily can so I'm good with emulation. Whatever helps you get the games and systems you want to play, I'm all for it.
@xTheUnforgettablexСағат бұрын
Can you please suggest where and what seller sells the PS2 with all built in video games and exactly where to get super console x? Do you have the ability to save your games for the PS2 with built in games? Does the super console x have save states? Thanks.

The biggest thing I love about emulation is that some games are very expensive or never left Japan. That solves both problems. Look how expensive Earthbound is. Almost 5 grand.

My big thing with emulation, is space. I can't collect physical games, its just not something I can do right now. I have a family and no spare rooms. I don't have a place to put a CRT, and a dozen gaming systems and all the games I want to collect. Even if I had the money to start a collection for one or two systems, its the CRT alone that kills it for me. In the 90s, yeah no big deal because the family TV was a CRT. But now, its flat screens mounted (way to high but I had compromise somewhere with the wife). In a couple decades when my kids move out, my dream is to be able to make a room a man cave, and get a CRT. But will CRTs work then? Will they be super expensive? Will the games still work?

I’d like to see a full video on modded OG hardware. I have a modded Saturn and Dreamcast that lets me play super expensive games on original hardware. Does that fall in the emulation camp? Not exactly IMO, but it does give you access to everything like emulation does. I find I play modded systems even much more than my mister fpga even or a raspberry pi. It’s a nice middle ground.
@NodakSavage7 күн бұрын
I don't consider MODE emulation. You are playing the file on the actual hardware. It's basically modding a retro system to run similiar to how current systems run when buying digital purchases. I wouldn't call playing digital games on Switch emulation. Just like I wouldn't call playing digital games on Dreamcast via MODE or GDEMU emulation. It's real software on real hardware. If the modern tech would have existed back then those systems would have been no different than how modern systems are with the choice to download and play digitally. That's my take on Everdrives and ODE's. If it's real hardware, it's not emulating.

One big upside to emulation for me is being able to smooth games out with X16 AF and uprez to 1080P or 4K, this alone makes a huge difference to the 5th/6th generation console games, and makes them look great on todays larger displays, DC/PS2/GC in 4K, sign me up.

I have the same view as you i have played Some games on emulating but i take a real disk over emulating every time I even take it over digital games and that’s coming from a person that has over 2000 games on steam.
@bodymore4207 күн бұрын
The biggest problem with emulation is cyclic accuracy including sound/frame issues along with the dreaded input lag. If it wasn't for MiSTeR FPGA and having accurate hardware emulation; I'd still have all my 8, 16 and 32-bit consoles hooked up and modded. However, MiSTeR solves those issues and makes it an enjoyable experience. The Analogue Pocket replicates that accuracy with a handheld system and that's my preferred handheld console d/t that.

It really is a great time to be a gamer. I wouldn't be the same without emulation. The input lag is only bothersome if your computer and monitor aren't fully up to the task. Believe it or not, in some games (mostly 2D ones), you can get faster input response than what's possible on og hardware. Modern tech has opened that door. The possibilities are endless.

Without the hit or miss , glitchy, mess of emulation in the early 2000s, I wouldn't have been introduced to and learn to love many of the games that got me into retro collecting in the first place. I'm actually sympathetic to video game companies worry about emulation taking away from their profits and therefore taking away from their working capital for development which affects all of us. Gamers, but I can very confidently say that emulation was a leading factor in making gaming a real part of my life and Nintendo has definitely made way more off of me due to emulation than they ever would have otherwise.

Emulation is to improve graphics, period. Which to me is especially important if using a newer/higher def display than what was intended (I own 4K OLEDs, 3D LCDs, a high-end Plasma, a 15khz RGB CRT and a few PC CRTs, all having their pros and cons regardless of the content type). I have no interest in dicking around with scalers trying to make a PS2 look good on a 4K OLED. PCSX2 on the other hand, with widescreen patches, no interlacing patches, 60fps patches, even texture packs sometimes, now we're talking. Bringing any 3D title to HD resolutions is a transformative experience that can potentially turn a fantastic but eye-destroying game into something passing as a modern release. I can hear the argument that, for 2D games from 240p consoles, there's nothing like using a real 15khz CRT in RGB. You can use CRT filters on emulators, but it takes away a lot of the brightness and you're left with a screen that still has tons of motion blur (modern LCD and OLED being sample-and-hold display therefore hyper-blurry). Hence, in those case I go tend to go the "HD Remaster" route with either HQX or ScaleFX filters (best compromise between smoothness and preserving the artistic intent, I do not like interpolation blur filters or X/BR/Z stuff). And If the display allows me to sacrifice brightness for increased motion clarity (with strobing/BFI) then I will pick that option for sure. But I admit that for low-res 2D there's less room for error on a good CRT with original hardware. I own 99.9% of the games I emulate, unburdening my obsolete systems from the stress of intensive use, except when on those special occasions where I want the real thing, which while not my norm, is something I completely understand, provided you have the appropriate period-correct display.

I buy the games I really love and intend to replay if I can get a decent deal on them and then just use everdrives/modded consoles for the rest. There is commercial and non commercial emulation. I have arcade compilation discs that are run by emulatikn dating back to the ps1. Commercial emulation also provides us with mini-systems, mini and large arcade machines and other products. I love commercial emulation aspect for cheap ways to pick up games. I have tons of arcade compliations on PS4 - psikyo shooters, capcom arcade, Marvel vs. Capcom and so much more. As to non-commercial my steamdeck sporting batocera gives me access to tons of titles that are difficult or impossible to find and games i could never afford. Plus emulation save states allow me to finish games i never could before. I have 19 consoles counting some duplicates and tons of physical games. They get 80% + of my gameplay. But my little Anbernic arc d and Steamdeck with batocera are fun jump on and play for a few minutes to a couple of hours machines.

Emulation is not free. You need something to run it on. Access to the software and knowledge of setting it up as well as controllers to run to the emulation system you setup. As well as the ability to download this stuff.
