This will NOT stop the rust!!!

Do you have a better idea for an easy reach manual drain valve? All bigger air compressor should automatically come with an easy reach drain valve because people get lazy and water just sits in the tank rusting away. This way it’s easy to drain every time it has been used.

I think you are missing his point. the verbiage is wrong which is definitely misleading. Sure this helps make it easier to drain the tank but in no way does it “stop the rust”

I did the same thing to my 80 gallon. Since it's a stationary unit, I added a hose to the valve to direct the "outflow" outside the garage. Super easy to do and we'll worth the effort and cost.

I might be concerned about the amount of tape you put on keeping it from going into the threads and two wraps is enough

If you pipe the drain into the side of a coffee can - drill hole in side of coffee can and attach a bulkhead fitting to the side of the can. Use a flexible hose to go from the drain valve to the side of the coffee can. That way the water is captured in the can and will evaporate with a bit of time. Keeps from making a mess on the floor. I did that to mine a few years ago and it has worked well. I used a steel coffee can.

Excellent presentation, I will do the same thing to my 26 gal. Craftsman compressor. I think I will add a 90 degree elbow at the end to direct the drainage towards the floor. Thanks but another trip to Amazon.

You should have used a longer copper pipe so the valve was not under the tank The you could open the valve with your foot and not have to get on the floor to open it. That's what I did and it works perfectly. I can open and close the valve effortlessly without having to even bend down. Just change your short pipe gor a longer one that puts the valve so it's not under the tank.

I did this decades ago. Suggestion. Extend it out to where you can open and close with your foot. Run the pipe by one of the legs where you can make a mechanical support, then the whole unit is protected from a bump that could damage the extension pipe.

Close mine keep in a low moister area and still get rust .Really don't think you will totally stop it.Seriously you only need to wrap threads on brass fitting about 3 times around max .Way to much ! Can also use pipe dope does a great job

I have a small 5 gallon Craftsman compressor. I bought it 20+ years ago but only recently started using it to add air to the car tires. Just a little water accumulates while doing this (enough to wet finger tips), however I like this idea to have basically a non-rusting drip leg for the water to accumulate in instead of the tank, and easier access to the drain valve. I always open the drain valve after using the compressor with some air pressure left to blow out the moisture.

Personally I find it annoying to know that rust in compressors are just normal, as if it should be like this. I got my first compressor last year, and I had no clue until just recently when I discover my compressor was spewing rust out. This rust must get into airhoses and if you are to blow that air onto something you do not want anything but clean air getting to, what the hell are we supposed to do... I often use the air to blow off excess water after I've cleaned my mountainbike, and now I just feel hesitant to do that because I don't want things to start rusting, which is the whole reason why I want to remove excess water in the first place.

You can separate water and small contaminants from the compressor to the air tool by using this product. It will also extend the life of your air tool down the road. amzn.to/48D7DUI This second link is a product that needs to be connected next to the air tool. amzn.to/46bgDyN Hope this helps. Thank you for watching!

For safety purposes, you should turn your valve around. As of now, when you open the valve, the escaping air pressure will direct water and rusty debris towards your hand and fingers. Turn the valve around so that your hand is behind the open valve end and not at risk when you swing the valve handle.

Super nice job on your drain . looks really good ! 👍 There really isn't any way to stop the inside of the tank from rusting . the best alternative is to get a tank that is galvanized on the inside or stainless steel . Mostly those options are, only available on expensive industrial models ,so for the rest of us we just have to accept a certain level of rust

I placed my valve further out to the side so it can get more reach, and at the end have a 45 degree angle fitting to divert the rusty water down on the floor versus across the room.

@@mattfixandbuild2273 I'm also using a steel street elbow and steel pipe, not brass. But it hasn't rusted through in 8 years, so that's solid too I guess for my household DIY compressor that doesn't get a lot of use.

It depends on what you’re using. If you use it on air tools, it will mess up the tool. That’s why the tool manufacturer recommends to use air tool oil, because it’s not the same. That’s why we can’t put just any oil inside a tool.

That fitting needs more than just 10 wraps of tape. Rule of thumb, 10 for liquid, 20 for gases, and 30 for solids.
