Great Andy once again, I'll try that when I play Friday morning (if I get the chance) and hopefully be alot better 😁👍

Sunnuva biscuit. I feel this explains exactly what has happened to my 3wd & fairway driver. Back about 6-7 weeks ago I changed from the baseball style grip to the interlock grip and was rewarded with the best iron play of my life. Beautiful strikes and I can draw or slightly fade the ball now both ways. Buuuuut...in all the practice with that new grip and swing, I can no longer hit my fairway clubs well at all! So bad that I purchased a Titliest U500 and have been loving it. With my two fairway clubs I could not determine what was happening other than the ball gets driven into the ground about 2-3 inches ahead and then rolls 150-yds or a worm burning hook out to 100-yds. I'm gonna take these suggestions to the range in a few days and see.

Hope it helps Chris. I’d be very interested to see how the baseball to interlock grip has affected your swing in such a positive way too..?
@chrispearce92242 жыл бұрын
@@andycartergolf Yea, I'm no coach...but I'm right handed and interlock feels as though my right arm is now in a correct position allowing that elbow to point at my right pocket, my right hand feels like it can deliver the club at a proper loft and speed, and this comfortably allows me to backswing deeper and stay in posture for consistency. All together better divots, better ball flight(penetrating), better 'Whoosh' from the ball. The result is very good. Now I can actually alter swing path and face angle to use a draw or fade if needed. I do still use the baseball grip with really short chip shots like 40-yds and closer.

Sun's out, guns out :D A timely video. I have left the 3 wood out of the bag for the past few months. It was one of my favourites last year. A fitting this year identified the low delivered-loft problem, but I did not have a way forward to resolve it. You have given me some great ideas for the driving range (and the course).

Dude, this was absolutely one of your most useful and informative videos to date. Super helpful because I always feel like i'm going to crush 3/5w and end up farting it 80 yards down the fairway so I'll take this into account for next time! Nice one mate!

My pleasure. No more 80 yrd farts!

That lead shoulder dip ahead of the downswing is easily my biggest fault. If I concentrate on keeping my head "behind the ball" relative to the target I play some really decent golf.

Thanks Andy as I top my woods. Put me on a range with 50 balls all but a few go where they should but out there on the course is so different. Irons brilliant but woods dead embarrassing. I think I’ve been falling back on the downswing so been stacking more weight onto the front but guess what it’s still the same. Will now try to stay totally in situ to see if this helps!
@andycartergolf2 жыл бұрын
Yes but keep rotating towards the target. Also check ball position

Glad you talked about the counterintuitive aspect of staying behind the ball means you are less likely to top or fat. Weird but true.

Great advice there Andy. Oddly enough, I top my woods when I don't swipe through the ball and not shifting weight, or I stand up too soon. I really need to keep my head level all the time until the face hits the ball and starts the arc upwards. Critical point that.
@andycartergolf2 жыл бұрын
Try to find out WHY you don’t shift your weight or ‘stand up’ Do you swing out to in..? (Hit fades/slices/pulls?) it sounds like. Thats the real cause of the issue not the head position. All speculation without seeing your swing

@@andycartergolf Andy, you are one freaking good golfer and coach. In fact, I went to take a lesson with a Pro Coach yesterday. Turns out she played 4 years in college before coming back to Germany. And what she said is spot on with what you have suspected. I did come out to in, but most of the time managed to get the face straight. However, I needed to heavily shift weight forward to do that. So she first got my grip to be more strong (i.e. really 2,5 knuckles, which I hadn't realized was not the case, I was a little less than 2 knuckles), got me to place the ball ever so slightly back, like 3/4 of a ball and she shallowed my swing noticeably. My first balls were well compressed but baby draws, which I wouldn't mind. I never drew before. Then after 20 swings, they went straight and I have a completely new good feeling in the swing. Many thanks Andy, you really set me up to do this.

That really helps me Andy as every now and then I top a fair way wood. Have to say Old Blue does work well for you. Any chance you could address how to play a shot with the ball above the feet, esp a fairway wood?

Just come across your channel mate. Great videos. I’m a +1 golfer and struggle a lot with covering the ball and early extension. I keep my hip depth fine up until the top but gain spine angle coming down and through impact. What drill or swing thought can you recommend for me to stay down and compress the ball better?
@andycartergolf2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Calum, welcome to the channel kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y3_Wc4eJbrOMobs check out this video. It will help keep depth and spine angle in the downswing
@Bigtimeburgers2 жыл бұрын
@@andycartergolf thanks. I’ve checked out your video and I think it’ll be really helpful. I also feel I get the club stuck underneath as an attempt to shallow out which causes me to get flippy, rather than get it more infront of my chest and get proper compression. Great channel buddy.

Hi Andy, do you have an expected shot shape when you're hitting a wood from the fairway?
@andycartergolf2 жыл бұрын
I usually expect to see a draw because I try and neutralise my angle of attack so I sweep the ball off the turf. If you tend to hit more down which most golfers do then you'd expect to see more of a fade
@ian3392 жыл бұрын
