So happy for patrice! I'm a letter carrier as well and did the same exact grind. Paid off my mortgage on july 1st 2022 by working when nobody else would. So many similarities with listening to the podcast daily to keep me motivated. I finally got off of the overtime desired list last month after being on it since march 2014. Now I'm trying to train myself to slow down and back the hours down after all that time.

Thank you Ramsey team for providing a debt free scream platform. A lot of people either don’t understand or support the celebration of accomplishing this journey. It’s not a boastful act, but a place where support, understanding, and most importantly validation is given to many who can’t find it elsewhere. Thank you!

Caller Jeff’s poor kids. His wife, their mother, passed away 1 1/2 years ago. Jeff is already getting remarried and selling the house that his 18 year old daughter still lives in, to go get remarried. Now he’s asking his kids to not take Money that their mother left them so that he can buy a new house with his future wife? That call had snake written all over it. Those poor kids. It seems like Jeff is more interested in his new wife, then his poor two children who are likely still devastated from the death of their mother and now have to deal with their father selling their house to move to another state and get remarried.

What do you want to bet there is something to do with persuasion by the new wife?? Just my guess, just a hunch on other relationships I have seen. Give the kids their money, set them up with a financial advisor, and keep talking to them about making wise choices with money. If he wants to save his relationship with his kids, that's what he will do. I hope I'm wrong and the new wife is not asking for anything, like money towards her new house, but I agree, it's fishy.

Over the years, friends of mine had long distance relationships. They were madly in love and had never met. It only worked out one time. One woman paid for a guy to move here from Australia. If he can't afford airfare… And there are many stories of women being involved with multiple men online who send her tiny amounts of money every month but it adds up. I pity those children because they're going to have to live with his decisions.

I drove my Volkswagen for 14 years until the runningboards fell off. I just run a car until they don't go anymore and I do regular maintenance and do the tuneup's and get regular oil changes etc. etc. When I look at a car I have no idea what year it is and I often don't know the model. 18:00 Absolutely, keep that $30k for living and residency interview expenses, not investments. She never said which medical school she's going to; I hope she isn't going to overspend on a degree that is the same from any other school that offers and MD/DO. Especially When a Step/Level2 exam score is the most important factor to get into residency. I can't wait to see the comments about how a particular medical school matters for skill/education... it doesn't, at all. You teach yourself all of the material anyway. It only matters for networking; the age-old classic where it's about who you know, versus what you know. A few caveats but, they all circle back to 'who vs what.'

My dad was much older than this man. He pledged all his financial holdings to me and 4 other siblings as he married a lady shortly after mom’s death. New wife had plenty from her deceased husband. He ended up splitting everything 6 ways, including her. When she’s gone, her daughter, who stole money from his accounts while he was dying in the hospital, will get all mom’s money. Sad situation

Convincing the kids to invest the money for a new home or long term investment would be great idea. At this point, trying to change what is going on and against the wishes of his deceased wife's estate, that is pretty fishy. Being a caller on the show, we only hear his point of view. We assume he is a good person, but could just a easily be a dirt bag. We have no idea if he is good or bad. We have no knowledge why the deceased wife wanted to do this. We don't know the situation, so we don't know if the deceased wife was not very financially savvy or if she was extremely financially smart and a lot more knowledgeable of what was going to happen.

What I was thinking was it doesn't sound like he taught his children anything about money even though he was on the plan for 14 years. Big mistake. Plus it's taught in schools and he's living that life. Do you remember when Dave said he sat his children down when they were 21 and told him what the amount of money was that he had and that they were stewards and it was a big responsibility. He didn't want them to think that was going to be OK for them to be trust fund babies living on a yacht! That's what should be taught to kids.

As a “socialist”, I just want to say this. Most of us don’t think rich people should pay more, we just believe they should pay their fair share, which a lot of them don’t. I think everyone should pay a standard percentage, one that doesn’t take too much from those that can’t afford it, but is the same for all; 15 or 20% maybe? I don’t think that if you earn 10 times as me that your tax percent should be double, but even at 15%, that’s 10 times what I would pay.

The first older lady is unusual, a possible case for a fixed lifetime annuity. Someone who just can't handle volatility or any risk and is older. She could get guaranteed about 10% income returns for life with one at her age. If she thinks she could live into her 90s in good health, maybe an OK idea. One risk is if she needs long term care abruptly though, that could be an issue, or other sudden medical type expense, so she may be better off just sticking with her current plan.

Dave is always talking about 10% S&P500 returns. $10k a year lost by not investing made me laugh. I’ve lost way over 10% the last year in the S&P. Those 10% a year gains are likely over. We will have a lost decade of stock returns. History doesn’t guarantee the future. Remember when cars used to depreciate and now a car bought 4 years ago is worth the same today? Who would have thought. Yes it happens. Dave’s budgeting and debt free advice is good but be careful who you take investment advice from folks.

Paula is doing terrible, a disaster waiting to happen. Ignorance in the market is sad to see in her case. She has a nice monthly income and has her mortgage paid off with no bills. She is losing money daily with no investments with the rate of inflation today, that money market account will just keep losing income. Her 1K a month into it, is just keeping the current balance at the 100K level. With major emergency home repairs, that account can be exhausted in a couple of years or less. That 30K in a savings account is totally dumb. Hopefully she stays healthy. She can always go back to work if the unexpected happens, even without choosing to. 😢
@brookelondon8029
@brookelondon8029 Жыл бұрын
I agree because of inflation with everything you said. I think Dave could have recommended that she dip her toe in the market and simply invest $250 a month and see what happens. She's probably earning 2% at the bank. And her Social Security increases won't really mean much because my part C went up $500 this year. Gasoline is more, everything is more. She needs more than a little bit but I could tell she was very hesitant. And what is she going to do when she has to replace a roof or heating system or any major repair like that. She's not going to have any money left.
