would have been nice to put a 'v' in the last Cmaj bar on the 'steps' methode. It sounds kinda stupid to be honest to just walk in cmaj while as a bassplayer you can actually just play V's wherever you want (kind of). Makes the two boring cmaj bars more interesting...
@nezkeys795 жыл бұрын
He sorta does...he ghost notes a C# that isnt written. This is the third of the V chord to the Dminor (A major).

He playing a Dm "rootless voicing", it's basically a Dm9 chord but without the D, as you are playing the D in the bass so theres no need to play it again! There's tons of videos that explain rootless voicings.

@PIANOSTYLE1004 жыл бұрын
This is related to the rootless voicing question. A voicing will not have the root..except in the Bass. There has to be a root. Take the C maj.chord..C E G B D.. . It's just a Emin 7 Sans the C root. Another thing..the base player can play the C. Etc. Nobody will be stepping on each other.
@miAimTIL5 жыл бұрын
Your so-called "Rootless Voicings" would be easier if the chord symbol absolutely described the chord. We have developed new chord symbols that do just that!! Nice video.
@woomy89715 жыл бұрын
what do these symbols look like? i've never seen it in any sheet music/leadsheets
@miAimTIL5 жыл бұрын
@@woomy8971 They are explained in our eBooks and used in our videos - a simple example is that we use ROMAN NUMERALS in our videos so that you can play in any key. And that the Maj-min 7 is now Maj 7 b3 - now that exactly explains the chord!

Why do you list the chords as 7th chords when you're playing 9ths?
@sakazuki95155 жыл бұрын
You can add extensions to 7ths but still call them that via lead sheet, though I agree he should've just labeled them what he actually played for beginners. Those Chords being; Dmin9, G13, & Cmaj9 respectively.

Going down from G to D is a fourth not a fifth. Going up from D to G is a fifth. A better way to describe what you were saying, you go down a fourth from G to D to reach the fifth of the chord G.

Wait, so a walking bass line is just a line that mainly moves in quarter notes and has a chord tone on beats one and three. Or am I missing something?
@LeakyJAZZ5 жыл бұрын
No. I'm a bass player, not a pianist, but when you walk the bass, you usually play the chord's root on beat 1 and then anything else that leads to the next chord.

Pretty much. I hate when bassists constantly play notes on the "one" of the chord that have nothing to do with the chords. I mean its ok here and there to play but when every damn chord has something other than the root and they say "this is what all my jazz books tell me to do" 🤢

Adding an eight note is an approximation of swining
@nuberiffic5 жыл бұрын
*Swinging. And no, it isn't. That's how you do it, you can't swing quarter notes in 4/4 - you need to add an eighth note somewhere.

@@nuberiffic just adding an eight note is a weak swing feel
@nuberiffic5 жыл бұрын
@@lavenderfana3137 No, it doesn't have any feel. How you play that eighth note is what swing is. That gives it the feel. You add an eighth note to swing on. That's what swing is.
