I LOVE your channel. I know everyone wants the side hustle to make money, but honestly - I prefer watching regular home gardeners who are not necessarily sponsored. The opinions and feedback are more honest AND more relatable. I used to watch another channel when they were just starting out, but now they are sponsored and you can tell! What happened to gardening for the love of gardening? Sponsors are great, but can a channel be sponsored and still be objective vs shilling ALL the time? I re-use soil too, nobody is replacing soil in nature… it gets refreshed and such… so, that is what I will do, lol
@GardenQueenАй бұрын
"THAT PART" Sponsorships can be useful! I get requests all the time! BUT it has to align and normally that means pushing products! We will for sure expand on this topic!

Hi Garden Queen, I do not change out my soil every year. Bit, this year, I had roses in containers that had black spot.. so, I got rid of that soil. Other than that, ai typically buy the same plants and will reuse my soil. So glad I’m not alone in this 🤗

I generally reuse the soil …🌷

No I do not. I’ve only been gardening for about 40 years.
@reddog40Ай бұрын
Hi Netea,I do this I use earth dirt,I use soil from containers that sat all spring through winter and I use chicken compost for my fertilizer.Ill adda little when I start a new container just mix it through, what I have experienced is if you compost and it sits bugs and worms will get into those pots it's the way the echo system works so for me it makes a better soil.I also used plastic containers in the big pots and it's a win win bc pot isn't heavy, I agree with you!

Not only do I reuse soil, I pull plants from the garden. Ostrich Ferns, Wild Getaniums, sedums, volunteer trees, CREEPING CHARLIE ( not kidding) it’s pretty and makes a good tea. I shop Lowe’s clearance, I cut the bottom off and put the plant in a raised bed, when it recovers it goes in a container.

Hunty!!! I’m all about saving a dollar, a quarter, a dime, a nickel, and a penny!! Now, disclaimer I have only been gardening for 3 years so I am not a pro or expert by any means how and ever I watch tons and tons of gardening videos on KZbin…. Reuse my soil and I may add a little new soil. But I have been told when you have earthworms in your soil that it means it’s good. Every year I take my soil from my old containers there are earthworms in every single one of them, so after 3 years in, reusing my soil has done me good. I appreciate all of your knowledge and advice…keep doing you, O love your videos!! And I love when you say my good good girlfriend 😂😂😂cracks me up everytime!! I love you Garden Queen!!!❤❤❤❤

I agree with you 100%. Mother nature does not have access to land and sea compost, biotone, and all those nonsense these advertisers keep pushing. The only thing mother nature has to work with are leaf mold and worm casting. And she does a great job in the woods. Continue to keep it real garden queen.

Nobody can afford all new soil every year and it's completely not necessary , and P.S. if someone wants to sponsor you it's because u have a lot of followers who love u and your personality and your love for gardening that comes through in every video . I am pretty sure no matter what u r doing with your soil u have the followers u will get the sponsors . You keep doing u I only wish I had found your channel sooner. And I love the ferns !!! I’ve always been told to use new soil, but I’ve got some really large containers and it was getting expensive. So, the last few years I have not been changing it out and the plants look just as good. I think she’s right that you may not get soil sponsors but you have to do what you think is right. I think some of these plant companies should sponsor you because you have a gift and can make any of their plants dazzle in your arrangements. I also think a company that makes those watering cans (whatever they are called) should sponsor you too.
@marthastevenson4580Ай бұрын
7:32 Great point it’s a total waste of of money 💰 I know one KZbinr who always has problems with reusing soil or using Pine bark mulch. in containers. Now that your saying that she did a video where she stated verbatim “ I just found out you don’t have to replace your soil” I can see her turning those containers into failure so she can prove her point.. Let’s wait and see especially because she has a Responsibility or endorsement with Espoma😂

Thank you, thank you. Thank you for this video today. This was the first year. I did not use brand new soil completely. I have about 4o 16 inch pots that are planted up each year and this year I only topped it off with about a fourth of the tops With new soil (Cost). Everything is doing great except for my petunias the heat is killing those. I will think long and hard before planting any more petunias from now on even though I love them. I reuse my soil but each year we add plain old compost to it and mix well. We can tell by the weight of the soil how much to add. It should not be too heavy but not mostly peat and too light. Since doing this we have saved money, had great plants, needed less commercial fertilizer. I have a great garden gardening in a zone 3 (we only have about 3 and 1/2 months of summer so we need to hit the ground running to have good color.) Reusing soil as long as you have no disease or pests in it is simply good for the environment and isn't that what gardening all about? Gardening as a competition must take all the joy out. Can't we be kind and just support each other? Learning from others successes and failures speaks to emotional maturity. Wishing each of us a happy summer where we can each learn from our successes and failures.

You and your friend are correct . That being said … I make my own money and knew this before you made this video and am soooo glad you did 💜🌸. This year has been experimental. I have embraced no dig , purchased different potting soils , garden soils, and a BUNCH of compost . Soooo expensive!! Next year will only purchase compost . I have one pot that has soil that no one knows how old it is, lol. I just add bio tone and top it with compost . Everything in it is amazing ❤ some of these companies have made gardening into something it was never intended to be , so sad . Queen , you keep on doing you 💜💜💜

I really like when KZbinrs visit independent garden centers! Those big global box stores turn me off. Also the PW and M######ia brands are extremely over rated. In supporting local independent garden centers we get professional knowledgeable staff, local advice and plant stock that is locally grown and seasonally appropriate. I support soil independence! Thank you Queen! Pro tip look for soil and fertilizer at yard sales!

I reuse any part of the soil in the pot that hasn't become part of the root ball. This is usually only a small part. Then I augment with compost and fertilizer, just as nature does with dropped leaves, skeletons and droppings of animals, died back foliage. The only time I will toss it all is if the plant, when removed from the container, has encompassed all the soil with its roots.

Hi Queen.. no I don’t buy new soil every year. I’m with you. As far as sponsors.. so many sponsors could benefit from using you (I.e: new hose, garden tools, plants, etc.) not sure why they aren’t reaching out? It’s their loss because you have such a great following. You could promote propagation tools, seed starting kits, self watering planters, etc. Im so disappointed to hear that they aren't reaching out. I absolutely value ALL that Ive learned from watching your videos.
@gardengypsy70Ай бұрын
Jim Putnam a 20 year nursery owner & former landscape owner reuses soil. James Prigioni promotes filling the ottom of very large containers with sticks and such they breakdown & feed the soil! It sounds like sponsorship may lead you down a path that’s not true to who you are, so if you want to serve your community( which I believe you do) then you need to let the company sponsoring you be informed you aren’t willing to do that. You can do both it’s possible 😊

That person is having difficulty believing that you are "able" to do what you actually do. Theoretically, you may be dealing with a Samson & Delilah situation. She wants to know the secret of what's making you tick; she wants to defeat you. There should be no competition. Each person should use the methods that work for themselves. Many methods will work. WHY! WHY! WHY! Are you even tit 4 tat with her? If your plant growth is working for you DO YOU! Every real gardener knows how to tend to their garden. Gardening is not about how much money you spend, but how to bring beauty to and through nature. I love your garden. Don't allow any negative vibes to enter your garden. Is it a place of beauty and peace OR is it a look at me and what I did place? Let it go and keep creating BEAUTY!

Is the purpose of your videos to get a sponsorship or is it to share your knowledge of gardening? Many gardeners do not have that big budget and appreciate your saving tips! I bought lots of soil because I was starting over after a move so I had to fill my pots . I do use soil over if I used it to start cuttings or what ever I have dirt sitting in small pots I dump it all together and let the sun sanitize it! Everyone should do their own thing based on needs or budget. That person was not honest so I question her character just saying😙
@GardenQueenАй бұрын
The purpose of my video is NOT to get a sponsorship! I totally think we need to expand more of the conversation! But would I turn down a sponsorship if it worked for me and met my values! No.. More details coming soon on this!

This comment is interesting for so many reason. 1 Garden Queen deserves a sponsorship. I would have thought Monrovia would have sponsored you. 2. Anyone who knows the business side of thing know that if Garden Queen had a sponsorship she would be able to put out more content. 3.) I also believe because you are so knowledgeable in Gardening you know tips and tricks it helps us save money. I have saved so much since I started watching Garden Queen. 4. Also your friend I don’t judge her character I just think she didn’t care about the containers after her event. She just did not want you to know you were right. Great video
