You could argue if yous work hour is valued at say 100$ then its better to have more support and have it print in 1 try rather than spending more time on supporting yourself and so on so on. But then again, make tests to see how you can make the supports and then you can print worry free with less support and less cost per part.

Oh totally, my time factored in, this is about a wash really. I figure as I get better at the manual process we can cut it down to minutes per part and not half hour+. Going to mess around with this for some time and see where we end up. Big print rolling today (helps with next week's topic) all with custom supports so it shall be interesting!

Auto supports have improved significantly in recent years and are fairly good for beginners, but moving to manual supports is a step forward in your resin printing skill set.

Absolutely! Like you said, the auto in Lychee is so much better than tricking Cura like the good ole days LOL.

The problem for a noob like me is I have no idea how much force is needed to peel a print off the FEP per give covered are of the screen and how strong a given support is. Too bad there is not a simulator to test out your supports. Thanks for the video, always helpful. P.s. Thank you for using the free version as much as you did. Very helpful for the masses that are using it.

Lower cross section, lower force on the FEP. I will see if we can do a short video on this or something, trying to figure out how we present it. I do not know if it is a FULL channel video, but it definitely should end up in SOME video. The one next week is all on UV tools.. If you ever have ideas or questions feel free to comment or email us!

Hey Grant... What is the bright green filament on the printer behind you? (Sorry, I know this was a resin video, but I don't have a resin printer and I want to know! LOL)

Generic green Semiflex lol. Nothing special! This camera BLOWS OUT fluorescent colors. I do not know why.

It really is! I never really tried the mini supports until recently. Auto was good enough, especially before I found Lychee. Now with that level of customization, it makes sense to go all out on it when you can!

How did you get the flat cross supports going from the base of each main support? Much less peel force than the raft I end up with (I don't use rafts, but supports bases stacked on top of one another may as well be)
@3DMusketeers
@3DMusketeers 2 жыл бұрын
That is a raft in Lychee :) You can find it in the support settings!
@FuriousGeorge_67

@@3DMusketeers Hmm... Every time I use raft it ends up making a giant dinner plate, basically a shadow of the perimeter if looked at from above. I'll have to mess around with some of the settings (different teapots? lol)
@3DMusketeers
@3DMusketeers 2 жыл бұрын
Lychee has different rafts, when you click on the raft setting on the top right you will see something like 8 different options for the rafts :)

oh crap that is a pro only? I had no idea! I will make sure not to use it in videos from now on then! I really need to work with them to get a free license as well, somehow so we can switch back and forth, so we can do the videos specifically in the free version. I feel bad now, as we have alienated someone, I'm sorry!

If you want absolutely FLAWLESS sanding after printing, Amazon sells glass files that go as high as 10,000 grit.

removing supports before curing can cause warping of the model when curing. For miniatures it won't matter much but for engineering parts it can be a sad day after curing unsupported models. Sure, a bit more clean up, harder to remove, more pain in life.. hehe... but well worth it in the end if you need things to fit with very low tolerances

Really good point! We don't notice it for larger parts but especially on the thin ones it can suckkkk

Too bad Lychee doesn't listen to consumers. I can't use lychee because my printer doesn't have the same resolution as the mono screen mod resolution. Instead of reading my comment, they say "use the mono screen mod". Yeah my printer refuses to use that resolution. I'm stuck with chitcubox which loves to place supports along the model's faces making it part of the face.

This sounds like partially the printers fault. But also, as a company, they have to weigh how often that issue happens and if it's rare at best I can't say I blame them for not specifically dealing with this. It sucks, however you can likely do all the work in lychee and then slice in chitu. That is what we had to do in the olden days lol

If you find supports are pushing your costs too high, probably time to find a new hobby. I just use auto supports then absolutely plaster the thing with tiny/small manual supports. If I spend more then 5 minutes on it, I'm having a bad day. Failure rate is probably below 5%. Never used a validator and never will. Not arguing that people shouldn't be proficient at supports, just that spending too much time seems like a waste of a far more valuable resource, my time.

I think some work on the front end removes any extra BS on the back end, IMO.
