In his letter, “On the Shortness of Life”, Seneca reflects on his older years and how they seem to be flying by at a faster rate. This observation causes him to critique those who are still in their youngers years who waste them doing “superfluous” things. In the letter, these superfluous things include lyrical poetry and doing dialectics which probably isn’t super relevant today. A modern day example of a “superfluous thing” might be extensive phone use.
Seneca then tells a metaphor of being in a castle that’s under attack and all the citizens preparing for that siege. Admittedly, it’d be foolish not to prepare for that attack and goof around. Seneca relates this story to life, saying that death is already closing in and that we must prepare. #philosophy #seneca #stoicism

And at the end everything doesn't matter. That's a real dark thought. We always think we did to less at the end, one more trip to a diffrent country, a little bit more time with loved ones. How can we use our time efficent if we will also think it was still too less? At which point have we done enough to say:"Now I can die."? Or do we need to do as much as we can un til the end? This are just a couple of questions I've had. I like your videos a lot, keep it up!

If you're enjoying yourself then you're not wasting time. The individual will determine how to utilize their time and there is no right or wrong. Some people really enjoy their phone time and that's a legitimate use of time. Life doesnt need to be productive or a certain way all of the time (but it does need to be productive sometimes). There needs to be a respect for life, connection with others, and an appreciation for the present moment. That will make for a happy life. Also, time goes by quicker the older you get because of perspective. At 1, 1 year is 100% of your life. At 2, 1 year is 50% of your life and so on.

I’m close to 50 and have my own macabre art in my bedroom to remind me I might die today. My husband says it’s depressing but I assure him it’s a reminder to live as well we can. I think I’ll pass on the coin though, it’s a little tacky.

I have lived quite a bit and experienced a lot - from third world countries to the western world . . . . . . . . in short the three best things that give meaning to life according to me are: Sex, Friends and the chats you have with them, feeding the pigeons and the ants.
