How MUCH I appreciate your channel. Only time "envy" has a tremendous, positive energy. At 62, had to take a job I don't really "fit" but pays the bills. I was explaining to a coworker/friend how I come here to rinse negativity out of my mind. Positive messages here, uplifting "humanity" of your vids, and the mesmerizing, soul-calming videos of a man doing what he loves to do, free, out in nature, ... so much healing from these videos at the end of my workdays. I keep coming back to mend, using your positive energy, my friend. (Oh, and I sharpen my axes and chain and chop wood as often as I can, keeping a real-life connection, part of the Buckin' Army!). Thanks for the sanity.

I'm 15 years old, and been watching you for about 2 years buckin'. Today I think I finally got my filing and saw tuning down! Next to building stuff (I have some pretty decent experience with carpentry and masonry), cutting and splitting are one of my favorite things to do. Yesterday I picked up a smaller saw (a Stihl MS250), got some old chains with it, filed them all, and then ran the saw through some wet hickory, and it did suprisingly well and managed to keep an edge. So I appreciate all the advice, you've helped me fall a few trees and cut many cords of firewood

I'm going back! One of my first hobbies was playing drums as a kid. I searched how to fell a tree with an axe and you popped up to teach me. You helped me thread the needle with that tree and I've been subscribed to you ever since. Then I realized you're a drummer and you have a similar energy as I do. I've picked up so many little old school tips and tricks from you that have helped me tremendously. Love all your content. Many years ago I was searching KZbin trying to find someone to learn the basics of how to hand file a chain. Now I'm a machinist by trade but a carpenter at heart, so being a machinist I do understand the cutting geometry and such but I was looking for the tricks of the trade that only an experienced faller would know....As soon as I saw you with a file in your hand I knew my search was over. you can't fake hand filing and I knew this..... long story short I've been here ever since and loving every minute of it. Cheers to you my friend I've been here since the beginning and not going anywhere .....Loves ya

I agree! I bought a Stihl 201 encouraged by your videos. To add to my saw inventory for fence line clearing and land maintenance. That saw handles nearly everything easily. It frees up my other hand so I can clear as I go, cuts time in half. Plus I don't need a second person most of the time. Also, your sharpening tutorials have greatly improved my saws performance plus all the cutting techniques you show, really help cut better and safe. Thank you!!

I have one of them stock. It really started to wake up after about 10 tanks of fuel and a carb adjustment. Good little saw for cleaning up after storms and some small firewood. I did change the bar and chain to 3/8lp .043 gauge and it seemed to help a bit and matches my Makita battery saw. I've been getting better with my filing and that helps too.

Would that saw be suitable for cutting down small trees that are 10" to 12" in diameter? I love your analogy of LOVE being like a tall oak, unshaken by the storm - left standing tall, to destroy fear! You inspire so many people to live better lives, thank you! That Christine is UNREAL! Totally hear what you’re saying here Buckin. It took me a while until I stumbled upon your channel. I just have a passion for chainsaws , axes , wood , trees , firewood .. it’s become such a calming influence on my otherwise hectic lifestyle . I became furloughed during lockdown for over a year in 2020. I took a chance and helped out at a local farm and also a livery yard where I helped clear storm damaged trees . I held my first saw , cut my first cord and was hooked there and then . Being outdoors and back in touch with nature and understanding your surroundings is heaven to me . I’ve learnt an awful lot from you and am still trying to get through your immense library of videos and yes I did click “oldest “ and began there ! Anyways , just got hold of a copy of the “fundamentals of general tree work “ by GF Berenek and i… am .. loving it . 🪵🌲

The husky was the first version. Nothing has outlasted my 200's, 201's and even my 194t's. I advance the timing and straight pipe the 194t. I found some 3/8 by .043 full chisel that works pretty good.

Yeah😬. I think Buckin is talking out of his ass on this one because I know really good arborists who love the echo top handles which I’m getting the cs-355 because I’ve been climbing with only a rear handle, And In my opinion, I don’t think spending like, 7 or 8 hundred on a 201t is really my priority so yeah. When it comes to top handles I’m echo all the way. As for big saws, my 661 is the most awesome saw I’ve ever used with a bark box and max flow filter OMG!!!! It screams 😂😂😂

I run a ported 355T with a 1/4” pitch Panther bar and I’m very happy with the saw. It cuts roughly the same as a muffler-modded 201T. Great little saw. But they’re fragile. The first one broke an antivibe mount the first time it was dropped 12 feet. Less than 3 tanks through it. I tore it down for parts and it’s going on eBay eventually!

LOL I haven't even fired it up yet. I'm not a full time tree cutter. I mostly just buck my own stuff. I also have a a couple of smaller Huskys, a 142 and a 450 Rancher. I just needed something with more nuts for dealing with the big rounds. BTW, I couldn't afford a Genuine Eastonmade Axis wood splitter, so I decided to build my own version of one. I just finished it up and am fine tuning it . I'm probably gonna try my hand at making and selling firewood bundles for campers and those that just want a pretty fire in their fireplace. There's a pretty good market for that here in east TN.

3:02 I wanna challenge that. Put a stock 2511 against stihl and husky’s top handles of comparable weight. Which I’m pretty sure neither are quite as light so I’d be interested to see what that extra weight is getting you. The only reason I say this is because I just happened to have noticed a lot of pros also have the 2511 and it’s really the only echo that consistently makes it in the professional tree crew and I feel that Is for a reason. I mean let’s be honest they’re all super fragile little things and if you knock them around they will break easily regardless of the brand. And dishing out an extra couple hundred dollars for something your gonna have all the same problems with just doesn’t make sense to me. Yes they are better built, but I feel that with proper use this is a small difference.

Let me see if I can explain my mindset on the foux saws. A name brand 56cc saw cost double what a foux 72cc saw costs. Yes the foux isnt as good as a name brand 72cc but you can get that foux 72cc to cut as good as a name brand 56cc with the right adjustments and sharpened chain. As I have seen you say before. Alot has to do with the combination. Just my thoughts.

You need at least one solid horse in the stable. You didn’t as for any comments but listening to you as a Stihl guy figured I would throw 2cents in. From saws I have repaired newer Stihl home owner saws are not what they used to be; husky definitely has it in that line. Pro saws agreed, hard to go wrong when you go pro level saw. The new 545, 572, 592xp’s I think are just a shade up on there stock Stihl counterparts. I run Clone saws as experimental beaters that I have ported and worked, and it’s a 50/50 shot whether you get a good one that’s worth working over out the box and then I wouldn’t hang my hat on it like a stock pro saw. I think for the money in the mid 50cc range if you can find them in good shape a Mac/ProMac 10-10 or the Homelite 72,74,101,102,120,130. I think for $100 or less that’s probably one of the best options for an emergency use, get some firewood as needed cheap saw. I would take a good use but loved 10-10 or a Homelite super ez over a Newer Stihl 250 any day. They don’t make stuff like they used to those saws are hard to hurt if you take care of them.

They're great. I bought mine in the 14" bar set up. Just a tad heavier than a Stihl 194t with the 12ah battery but honestly I prefer it over the stihl. Not sure if it's the slightly lower chain speed or what, but I cut down 24 trees on the factory chain before pulling it off to sharpen and it was still cutting good just finally could use freshened up. 20 of the trees were 35-50' elms, 2 were 30-40' maples, 1 20' ash, and a 60' Oak. Made every cut with the Milwaukee until it got down to over 14" diameter when I use the bigger saw (Currently an echo 590 in 20"). Absolute performer of a saw, and I have been running saws professionally for 17 years now. Make sure it's the Milwaukee top handle and not the first Gen Milwaukee, as the new one is a massive difference.

@@rynelson85 thanks. yeah I have Milwaukee power tools and saw when the bigger saw came out. It didn’t seem to do very good. Plus like I said mostly thinking about cutting deadfall for camping and some light yard work I already have a 62cc dolmar if I need to cut up something bigger or just want to run a gas one. I just don’t want to pack it back in the woods deal with gas in my suv. It’s nice to hear the Milwaukee is a capable saw. Stay safe out there and thanks again

I 90% agree. But for some who knows nothing and is a wrencher... I got a holzfforma 660 pro. My thinking was it will fit OEM sthil parts. The holzfforma breaks alot! And the parts are cheap.. I'd rather melt cheap cylinders while I learn carb adjustments, I burned the first one which was a meteor set. From that and watching you, iron horse and another guy I have learned how to judge the quality of cylinders... The meteor cylinder was good, others were trash! When I have learned enough to run garbage I will start swapping for OEM sthil on my hols. Already started... My clutch springs bearings went first and are now OEM from a sthil dealer now that I have carbs that will be next then the cylinder but not sure if sthil sells a pop up piston so may buy a hyway one. The clones are trash but IMO good for learning rather than bagging good saws. Ps. Love get the gullet!! Ty for showing chain sharpening!

I picked up a couple months ago gig cutting and football field size of hard and soft woods from 4” to 3’ thick. They provided me with a Husqvarna 450 and I’ll tell you, that little say is a work horse that starts every time and never stalls! I have went through a dozen chains in the past 5-6 weeks, but with a sharp chain nothing has stopped that little saw from doing its job. The ash wood seems to be the hardest on the chain, but still did the job. I also brought my own Stihl MS 391 and that saw also proved to be a good saw. Your thoughts?

While I agree with your statement about tree guys not buying clones, I would say mostly because nobody works on them, there is no local shops that sell them or warranty work on them, and the truth is ALL SAWS BREAK EVENTUALLY AND NEED WORK. I love my 372 clone, and im a tree guy. 🤷‍♂️ bought it to port myself and play, and learn with, and while I have a couple of stihls that have been trusty for 10-15 years (mind you with replacement parts and regular maintenance). I reach for my clone at home for firewood, a lot of firewood. now, I've only had it for two years, and I did put a husky carb on it, but it has a ton of run time on it, and I haven't had any real problems with it. NOT garbage, maybe lesser quality, but it's kept my family warm for over two years now, and it's paid itself off over a few times by now. because it was cheap. 😂 Pulls 185 psi compression and has since it was new and I ported it. by the time it blows up, all and all, it saved my family a ton of money, which is necessary right now in this crap shoot of an economy. dont use it at work, but I wouldn't hesitate if I needed to! to each their own, but china has the 372's down pretty well, in my opinion, as much as i hate to say it. All love, no hate, just ringing in with a little truth from a Midwest tree man.

The 620 makes quick work for large trees not as large as the ones Buckin cuts down but 20" eucalyptus no problem. Can't say enough for Echo stuff.

With RIPsaw turning that little 2511 into such a terror, I can only imagine what they could do to a 355.
@WildAcresFarms
@WildAcresFarms Жыл бұрын
A lot less. I’ve built both. The 355T is a clamshell saw with restrictions in port timing and a kink in the exhaust flow that the 2511 does not have. You can cut the squish band , deck, and base gasket delete the 2511 cylinder. I climb with a ported 355T which has August’s old 1/4” panther bar & chain on it. It’s a stout saw now and was worth doing. But it doesn’t double in horsepower like the 2511 does. Like a Husky 372… the 2511 was absolutely MADE to be ported for massive gains. Not all saws leave the same amount on the table. :) I’ve thought about porting 355s for a fee. There’s no one doing them and I’m very happy with the performance of the two I’ve done.

I put a farmertec rear handle / fuel tank on an 044 that I ported for him. Tank vent leaked whenenver it was laid on it’s side and I had to swap the German trigger / linkage into the assembly to make China work. Clutch cover / brake handle on a 395XP I built for myself: Brake flag return spring broke in the first weak causing the brake lever to fall off. Tried a $20 Chinese carb on the 044. Would never hold a tune. Installed a $20 Walbro OEM kit in the factory carb and fixed the problem entirely. I’m done with Chinese parts.

Bukin’ Billy Ray Smith I need your help I have a McCulloch 550 that needs a carburetor or a carb rebuild. I got it off of a guy who got it from an auction. He didn’t know what was wrong with. It seems like it’s been decently taken care of. If you pour gas on the carpet will start. I took the car off and cleaned it best I could, and that didn’t help so I wanted to reach out to you in hopes that maybe you know something about these that I don’t. I’m new to only McCullochs I only have this one and a McCulloch 650 that I got from a very close friend of mine, who I consider family I know run the saw and because of him giving it to me I know I fell in love with the brand, so I hope you see this, and if you do, if you have any insight you could give it would be very appreciative. What do you think about Makita saws made by Dolmar? My first saw as a new land owner was a Makita EA6100. I've had no trouble with it and I used it to clear my land to build my house. (Your videos helped BTW) I've had friends and family knock it, saying it was no Stihl or Husqvarna. But performance wise it seems like no slouch and its probably a nicer saw than I need. Do you have any opinions or tips regarding Dolmar? ***side note: i just bought a used Echo CS-310. It was cheap and pretty cool and fires up nicely***

Hi Billy, I love your videos, but I have to cross swords with you about Echo saws. I used Husky’s which back in the day were amazing, but QC has been lacking in the last 15 years. I’ve switched to Echo and have no regrets. They are without doubt the most reliable saw. Only downside is that the parts are very pricey. For firewood I use the 27cc 12” version, which I’ve owned since 2009. No problems, but like you, I look after my stuff.

@@why6212 but the cost is 4:1 for clones vs the real deal so would you rather assemble 4 clones and take all the best parts and make a #1 saw and 2-4 and have redundancy or all your eggs in one? I've cut my fair share of wood and have never "used up" a power head. If all 4 had the same critical flaw, you're 100% right. Additionally, I got my first clone because I wanted to port, shave, and bore it out... I'm not doing that to a high dollar oem saw. I guess in summary it's a little of both.

I hold nothing against a Professional Logger only recommending the absolute Best Chainsaws available - their livelihood depends on them. They also pay for themselves in heavy use day in and day out. I just hope most professionals can understand why a Homeowner that might cut a cord annually, and never falls trees, might be better off not spending 10x more on a saw they just don't need. Case in point: A Chainsaw rental may run $60+ per day. 3 days rental = most Zenoah Clone saws up to 62cc. Now, a freak storm might create the need for a chainsaw for several days for cleanup(for the non-professional) After that, the saw will likely sit in storage most of the time until it is gotten rid of. * ......... and why is it they are less trouble than a consumer grade Poulan? lol Love your channel and learn more than I ever imagined. You have helped this 70yr old keep going, building my firewood supply, prepping for the long term and enjoying being outdoors again. Oh, I do very much like the Husqvarna 445 I salvaged in a junk buy and pieced back together. Its a Screamer and not afraid to dive deep in the wood.
