I don't understand the hate people get for an artificial tank. The way I see it is: if the fish are happy, do whatever makes you happy!

Great video! You're teaching your daughter well. I have a page in my journal with all my research on the fish species I am interested in - it really helped me narrow it down to fish that should work well together in a community tank for the type of tank I'd prefer to keep. I've been wondering about the steps of adding additional fish. I consulted the Aquarium Co-op Forum for advice about the first batch of fish since I'm setting up a community tank and the 2 main fish I'm interested in need to be in groups of 6 and 8 minimum, respectively (ricefish & CPD's). Everyone agreed it was likely safe to go ahead and place the first 6 at once, but what about when you add additional fish? I plan to start with the ricefish, then the CPD's. I do have everything I need now (thanks to your great video) for quarantining my 2nd round of fish, but if you're getting, say 8, do you usually add them all, or do you add 1/2 at a time? I haven't been able to find much on actual quantities - most articles I've found just suggest adding them slowly. Thanks for all the informative content.

How big is your tank? For example I was getting 6 zebras and 6 white clouds. I got the 6 zebras first. Added prime every other day just in case and 6 weeks later got my other fish. I just keep adding prime

Is there a light for the glofish effect in the tank? I wonder how the glofish light impacts plants and algae.
@GirlTalksFish Жыл бұрын
Yes, the blue light or moonlight mode gets everything to glow. However, I've heard plants don't really utilize blue light as much, so if you leave it on too long, it can cause algae growth.
@StanLeeGhost Жыл бұрын
@@GirlTalksFish Ah that explains why my tank has lots of algae. I keep leaving the blue lights on overnight. 🤦♂

Normally I don't like aquarium with fake things in it, but this is an exception because your daughter studied and researched a lot before, i find this is very remarkable, and this is way better than an aquarium with incompatible spieces (angelfish with mbunas), maybe her next aquarium will be way more natural and i'm sure that you'll be a very good teacher along this process (maybe one day she will say mom i want an aquarium like yours)
@GirlTalksFish Жыл бұрын
Yes, for sure! The good thing about an aquarium is you can definitely redo it anytime, so I imagine that one day this will become a fully planted scape.
@andreacasoli3371 Жыл бұрын
@@GirlTalksFish to be honest when I was a little kid my dad set up a 200 liters aquarium where there were a lot of incompatible species along the years: we had a female kribensis, a giant angelfish, glass catfish, betta, cardinals and 3 yellow barbs, platies a complete mess substantially but along the journey we properly kept discus and cardinals, rummy nose tetras and a pair of Apistogrammas, I mean your daughter's beginning is better than mine, now i keep a southamerican tank of 110 liters and a mini asian of 55 liters

I have a question, anybody who knows or has an idea of the answer pls say so, thanks! I have a 20 gallon tank that I am going to re decorate with live plants and cycle and everything, and I am gonna get new fish soon, can I keep these fish together in the 20 gallon? 8-10 neon or ember tetras 6-8 cory catfish/simalar catfish 1-2 nerite snails 3-4 cherry shrimp or simalar shrimp Would this be to many fish? or would it be okay if I have lots of live plants idk, I am doing research on each fish but have no idea how many I can keep together in one tank without them getting agressive or it getting to dirty so pls let me know, thanks!
@lemonlizard1 Жыл бұрын
You could put even more fish if you'd like! Especially if it is a 20 gallon long. I wouldn't get another species, but just add 3-4 ember tetras and maybe 1-2 cories
@TabithaSummer16 Жыл бұрын
@@lemonlizard1 Thank you so much for answering, nobody ever answers my questions lol. Its not a long 20 gallon, its the normal rectangle one, I am so excited to try my first community tank its just really hard to find the info I need, I have been doing so much research and I still have so much more to learn, thank you for answering. I currently have 3 glofish in my tank, the other 3 died from an infection, but I treated these guys and their healthy now. Would I be able to add those other fish with the glofish or should I rehome them?
@lemonlizard1 Жыл бұрын
@@TabithaSummer16 no problem! you could technically add the glofish, but you wouldn't be able to add more Cories and ember tetras. Since glofish also do well in groups of 6+, imo, it might be best to rehome them.
@TabithaSummer16 Жыл бұрын
@@lemonlizard1 Okay thank you! I went to petco to see if they had the fish and plants I wanted and they did! so I can save money and then set everything up, I'm so excited! Also would a betta maybe be able to be with the tetras and cories? If the betta had a calm personality. sorry for asking lots of questions lol, but you seem to have the answers to a lot of stuff I need to know :)
@lemonlizard1 Жыл бұрын
@@TabithaSummer16 a betta could work. It really depends on the personality though. Some bettas do really well with tankmates while others are more aggressive. Generally, long-finned males or female bettas would be less aggressive. Some people also show the betta pictures of fish before buying it to see if it flares or gets angry. This isn't guaranteed to work though. But, if you have a betta that isn't aggressive with tankmates, it will do really well with them, especially if you have some plants in there!

As Irene said, it depends on the particular fish (not what color/strain - each individual fish). Dwarf Gourami are one of those fish that doesn't easily fit into an aggressive/peaceful categorization, they seem to each have their own moods/attitudes.

Never heard of anyone ever quaranting fish before putting in their main tank over here, or complaining about getting diseases and such along with their new fish. Is this a strictly american problem/paranoia? Or is it because virtually every fishstore in my country get their stock from 1 of 2 suppliers (which are highly reputable and quarantine all their shipments themselves before further distribution)?
