Wow! As a 3D animator, I have been assuming that Stop Motion animators only did blocking doing 2D test animations. I never thought about doing a "rehearsal" animation. Fascinating! Thanks for sharing!

Awesome video Justin. Quick question. I've used an x-sheet as a youngen back during my first anim classes. In a future Qand A could you please talk about how to effectively use one? I'm curious how you animate to dialogue. Do you frame count the audio first then write shapes and/ or sounds on your xsheet? really curious how you time out the information you need on paper to allow you to execute efficiently and quickly.

You mentioned the problem with being stifled and killing the flow. I've always wondered how restrictive all the drawings, timings, and keyframes are in a studio setting. Is all that mostly to make the director happy, or do you think you could do just as good a job winging it with only your imagination and experience?
@JustinRaschAnimation4 жыл бұрын
winging it is my specialty..ha!! and honestly most stopmotion animators are very good at this. In FEATURE work THE QUALITY is VERY high and the director has a vision they need realized. So doing the multiple passe is the best way to get the BEST shot on the big screen.
