If you’re using your phone you can use headphones with a volume up and down switch so you won’t have to move the camera. Or a Bluetooth remote which is really cheap on Amazon.

Great video! I remembered I had to do a stop motion for school about 1 year ago and I loved it... The making process. The video in the end was not so good because I ran out of time. But, I really struggled with the weight of my puppet. I basically made a diy armature with some wires and put some clay on it. The result was me really trying to avoid the puppet from falling off. So, I would love you to make a video about tricks on how to do puppets.

That's awesome! and yes....i have a couple of videos up on making puppets but more to come.

Thanks for sharing this video! Quick question, I'm currently trying to build my own sturdy stop motion table but I'm unsure which height I should set the table to. Do you have a reference point (eg. waist, chest, bellybutton...) by which you set the table height in order to keep you comfortable while animating?
@JustinRaschAnimation Жыл бұрын
40 Inches tall is pretty typical....up to 44 for a tall person

Any new DLSR’s you recommend ?, I really like the suggestions you pointed out but sadly they’re all unavailable or really expensive. So I’m wondering if there are some new cameras available today that are cheap, yet can shoot with greatly quality for Stop motion Thank you.
@JustinRaschAnimation2 жыл бұрын
hmmm...you know i am using higher end cameras for my stop mo....so im not sure what out there is affordable....I think most cameras that have a video out feature will work. you can also check dragon frames website for compatible cameras you will find one. other wise webcams are super affordable

I've been an hand drawn animator for around 10 years and just started to properly get into stop motion this year. Your videos have been super useful! I've just finished a 'stop motion a day for 30 days' that was really fun to make, and I was pleasantly surprised with the outcome. I have a lot of experience with getting a 2d job but I don't want to assume stop motion is the same. It seems there are a lot of cross over skills but also specialist skills and differences in production structures. Have you done, or would you do a video on tips and advice on getting into the industry of stop motion? I am specifically curious to know whether there places for junior animators to learn on stop motion features.
@JustinRaschAnimation3 жыл бұрын
i started in 2d as well...then learned cg before jumping to stopmotion. I will tell you...that 2d is a fantastic foundation and the craft will speed up your success in stopmo very much. Thats a great idea for a epsiode....i will add it to my list. The main thing you need is a demo reel just like in 2d or cg.....with quality work. Jrs usually have to pay their dues on tv before making the jump to feature

I've been wanting to work with clay for a while, but I want to know a few things. First, when using the van adken clay, do the limbs of the clay figure tear when posing? Lastly, do you use a armature underneath the clay puppet?
@JustinRaschAnimation4 жыл бұрын
yes...clay will require constant sculpting....and if you do have a simple wire structure in underneath it helps.
@greenmanstudios87464 жыл бұрын
@@JustinRaschAnimation Welp that settles it, Imma buy that van adken clay. The one I bought was a "earth mineral" based modeling clay, but it felt way too soft. Thanks Mr. Rasch, I'll share my test runs with you on twitter.

The table bit was awesome. While I'm a big believer in honing craft 1st before upgrading equipment, I'm at that point where I'm starting to transition to dragonframe myself from my iphone 6s. I got started after watching your live action x stopmotion fusion and I wanna ask if/when you got the time, I've been making some work on my channel and would appreciate some critique/feedback in any of my works or maybe some suggestion. It's fine if you're unable, just thought I should asked since your overwatch works gave me the final push to breathe my figure collection into life. As always thanks for making these kind of videos!

Great advice. I've been using the Stop Motion Sudio app. I think my next purchase will be a web cam so I can try Monkeyjam. I would like to get Dragonframe and a Canon but with the cost of both it'll be a while. For now I am having fun with the app. I just really struggle with timing and movement. I think having a program with the onion skinning feature will help. I can't tell you how many times I've accidentally bumped the object being filmed and have to eyeball it back. Also the eraser tool on the app I use is terrible or maybe it's user error but where I erase it's always obvious so I haven't been able to make anything go above the table. Thanks for posting these videos! Edit: I just realize the app DOES have onion skinning, at least for the last frame.
