In my denon 4700h I don't use too much auro-3d because it doesn't use the rear surround speakers.I love 'em. Without rears I fill like a sound hole behind me. I recently saw the Arren Aronofsky's movie "mother! ", which has a crazy use of rear surrounds, with the sounds that literally moves around you whereas she is turning inside the room or the stairs. I think I'll upgrade to a 6700h reaching full auro-3d 7.1.5 power. In this 4700h 5.1.5 configuration i still prefer Neural-x upmixing.

Then you have configured something wrong. The Auro-3D decoder in the X4700H/X6700H uses the same DSP chips like the flag ship X8500H/A110. Also Surround Backs of a 7.1 base layout is supported. Only X4400H/X6400H ist not able to use Surround backs with Auro-3D/Auro-Matic, because of the lack of the X8500H DSPs…

No matter what Apple supports, it will never fail. On the contrary, it will at least become a standard or a great success. No matter if it's a new technology, a new format or even an old technology brought back to life, it will succeed. It starts with apple music and will actually establish itself in movies. It's just a matter of time. As for Auro3D, who guarantees that if you had only gotten native Auro in the beginning and not Atmos, that the native content would have been mixed perfectly by various studios as well? In my opinion, it's not a question of technology, and the question for me is not whether Auro or Atmos is better, but that very good or very bad 3D mixes make the difference. I would never bet on a dead horse and focus just on Dolby Atmos.

It seems like Auro 3d upmixing is just doubling the ear level speakers, minus the center channel. That is the strong impression I got after hearing Patrick talk about it's strengths in comparison to dolby atmos et al. He keeps going back to not hearing the voices in the height channels as being super important and a real sticking point. Maybe that is the key to good height level immersion, just replay ear level stuff with some minimal height delay. Sure, throw in some object placement atmos magic... which has to also exist in the ear level mix, right?

You DO need to trust the amplification stacking man. Those sets of amplifiers are well thought out and planned. So you DO need to switch over to 'music' mode if you want a professional sound mix for Rock Concert performance. It really does improve the cymbals and electric guitar and kick drum and vocals as if you hired a Professional sound man to mix the Concert sound. Those sets of sounds are NO joke anymore. Now you get more than 1 experience. You get 5 experiences from 1 source.

Auro 3d is a dream. For example I just grabbed Alien vs Predator Requiem 1080p to see if it upmix it and auromatic made it a awesome sounding movie. The sounds coming from the heights was awesome. Rustling of vegetation when the father and son are walking through the forest OMG ! Auro 3d does a head and shoulders better job than Atmos. Star wars IV wasn't doing nothing on a 4k disc. Re watched in Auro 3d and WOOOOW what a difference.

Neural-X also does a great job with upmixing soundstracks better than a bad atmos mix, and its more pinpoint than Auro3D. A well mixed movie upmixed with Neural-X can rival a really good Atmos mix in immersiveness. However, there is something special about what Auro upmix does. It makes the sound a lot more enveloping and for some reason, the 30° heights really expands the soundstage depth a lot. So I use Auro upmixing a lot and Neural-X for action movies with lots of directional effects. If a movie is in native Atmos, I play it as Atmos but there are times when I'm tempted to switch it to one of the other upmixers.

Regarding x.x.2 being a compromise compared to x.x.4, this goes against what I’ve heard from other high-end dealer/installers. The advice I’ve heard is if your room length is 18’ or shorter you should use a single pair, because it will be easier to pinpoint the overhead effects (less congested and confusing reflections off walls and whatnot). Ie I think it’s more a function of the room and not hardware/gear capabilities 🤷♂️

Nah! Auro 3d is not worth it, too expensive. Just too much money for a new format support on your avr as of now you are just buying into the hype created. DtsX, dolby atmos available currently is more than enough. For better understanding let me put it this way example let's say you have avr A with 90w output for 1500$ paying for auro 3d right now is like paying 2000$ for the same avr just so you can get 92w output. The upgrade over dtsx and dolby atmos is not that great as it is advertised and only gives you a slight edge. They are essentially different technology, while dtsx and dolby atmos are object based auro 3d is environment based yet essentially both technology does the same thing. And when you are immersed in a movie I highly doubt you would even notice a difference. 😂 Most people go for a 5.1.4 or 5.2.4 setup so you need a 9 Channel avr to drive them. I plan on a 5.1.4 as it fits the wallet and offers more than enough to enjoy an immersive experience. I was very keen on getting a marantz 9.1 receiver sr6015 it is an expensive receiver costs almost as much as the jamo s8 setup I'm planning on unfortunately it didn't support auro 3d although it is a 9.2 avr although it costs an arm and a leg. Upgrade to sr7015 again a 9.2 avr gives you auro 3d however when you look at the price difference for slight increase in power output and auto 3d it's just not worth it. Regardless of whether content is available or not it's just not worth the premium cost of burning a HOLE in your wallet, it is always a Better idea to invest in excellent speakers than an amp/avr as today technology is tomorrow's garbage. While speakers will last you for a long time you can't really say the same about an avr, tech will be obsolete even is it survives the next few years of usage.

I have been listening for a dozen years to blu-rays with 5.1 lossless DTS and Dolby sound. The room is only about 13x13 feet square and I listen between the two surround speakers which are on the ceiling at about a foot behind me in the corners. My understanding is that I could upgrade the front left, right and center speakers (and AVR) to blast toward the ceiling as well as forward as my speakers do presently. In such a small room, would it make a difference in playing Atmos content? I've heard helicopters from the surround speakers in TV setup videos. I'm skeptical there is much value add in Atmos.

Its still 80hz if you have a sub. Maybe if you have huge towers 60hz.
@rick3303 жыл бұрын
@Wayfaerer yeah 99.9 percent of the time 80hz is the lowest you should go unless you don't have a sub. What wayfaerer said is basically identical to what I said right as the stream was ending in chat. No matter what wattage your AVR says it is it only has so much power it can output at one time and if you set your crossover too low it's using much more power to produce those sounds that you'll be getting worse sound overall while your sub has it's own power and should be handling everything everything below 80hz which frees up headroom for the AVR to produce much better dynamic sound through each speaker because it has more headroom. Also most humans can't localize sound 60hz or lower so there isn't a point to have your speakers handle that anyway. If that made sense. I'm half asleep typing this.

Ty everybody just was asking cause my onkyo tx-nr 797 auto speaker sets my klipsch rp-8000fs lower then 80 sound is still good but will set them to 80hz And I think the surrounds the same or 100-120hz thought I seen that some where unless that was for the height speakers
@rick3303 жыл бұрын
@@mcloude1 yes the AVR calibration will set your speakers lower. I know it sounds odd but you have to ignore that. The speaker calibration is still beneficial but just change your crossover to 80hz after it's finished. Unless you have tiny 4in speakers then you want it even higher than 80hz.
@gondolier414133 жыл бұрын
@@mcloude1 I second what Rick says about ignoring Audyssey crossovers. It sets my rear speakers which according to htd only played out a 90 HZ to like 40hz.... They are near a corner so that might be why it's placing them so low but I cross them over at 100 Hz. It takes more power to drive your speakers at lower frequencies so when you set higher crossover points on your AVR you can let the subwoofer and its internal amp to the heavier lifting giving your AVR more headroom

How many people will be able to reformat their listening areas to include the added speakers especially ceiling speakers. Obviously if you are just starting a dedicated HT room and build in-wall wiring/speakers. Dolby Atmos as to music is even more problematical. There seems to be a significant amount of disability. Also,listening to hi-res lossless music through the various streaming services is even worse. But its impossible to change the pitch of these sounds. For example, when you're in the cinema for James Bond moonraker 1979, you'll hear a slightly bass tone version of roger Moore's voice. Its tone was shifted lower by the equipment. The red lazer DVD changes the pitch tone again to even lower than the 1979 experience. But it seems reasonable to fool our brain that its a real original experience. The 2010 Blu-Ray sounds have shifted to more lower tones than the low pitch tone of the DVD sound. This extremely low pitch tone doesn't even sound like roger Moore's voice. The piano is played during the movie and all those sounds are too low in pitch, it sounds like a bass piano. My brain switches over to record mode instead of fascination mode cause its decided I've never experienced this version before. So you go Blu-Ray and everything lowers in pitch and its not the original cinema experience. Its some horrible bass tone version.

But some sound bars can put sound into the air in front of the tv speakers and a new type of sound emits from the tv speaker and that hits the sound bar sound in mid air and that gets smashed towards the viewer. Its like a tennis ball serve. The ball gets thrown into the air and the racket hits the ball at the other player. Other sounds get shot to the ceiling and bounce downwards. I have 3D room like sound of your KZbin video. THEY know reverberation room sounds. THEY learned from the electric guitar world. THEY learned what works and what doesn't. THEY learned to stack the amplifiers 1 after the other. Now the electric guitar world is learning what to do from the tv world. In amplification, if you ' have a win' you must loose something. There's always a price to pay. Blu-Ray lowers sound pitch and there's nothing you can do to stop that happening. You got more colours but ruined Roger Moore's voice. Are you prepared to sacrifice sound pitch for extra colours?
