Robert, Thanks a million! Just put our pontoon boat in the garage on the four dollies as you showed and it worked like a champ. We went with the four heavy duty auto dollies on all four corners just to be safe and they work great. We also cut 1x6s as buffers between the pontoons and the dollies, as you mentioned. So glad we'll have the boat at home so we can do some minor maintenance over the winter at our leisure. Jerry

fantastic! Glad it worked for you. :)

Thank you for the great idea with those dollies. I didn't know you could crank the pontoon off of them just by cranking your boat up by the trailer itself off the those dollies.

fantastic!

Not bad. I would have givin it more credibility without the blurring effects. But still a cool video. What would make that setup really nice would be to swap out that hand crank for a power winch.

Ok, but where do you store your trailer but good idea for the pontoon!

Great idea for winter storage ,but not for a frequently used boat.

thanks, gave me a few ideas for mine, like the dolly's. im trying to figure out how to lift my pontoon off of the trailer to paint it. (trailer)

Rob how deep is your garage. Have a two car garage 20x20 maybe on an angle and it's a side garage?
@stickandrudderindy Жыл бұрын
Ours was 27’ deep so we had plenty of room. You need to measure from bow to stern and give allowance for your motor with it angled for storage. For a 20’ pontoon, I’m guessing you need at least 23’ deep garage..

@@stickandrudderindy thank you! We are getting a home built and this is the dream to have Jay Lenos garage, pontoon, moped, motorcycle etc. I believe it's only 21 now... So, 27 feet deep may be tough but not impossible. Thank you so much

so where did you buy the trailer for your pontoon boat, is there a certain name that the trailer is called never seen one like that and how much did it cost?
@stickandrudderindy3 жыл бұрын
It’s been a few years ago but I think it’s a Hoosier trailer. Do a google search on “center lift trailers” and you should yield some results

It’s a “center lift” trailer. That particular one is from Hoosier trailers

I parked it behind my 6’ fence. Out of sight so no issues with HOA. Worked super well!

It doesn't damage the pontoon boat going down the freeway like that?
@stickandrudderindy4 жыл бұрын
It does fine. One caveat: center lift trailers are narrow so be careful with turns.

Hi again Robert. Inspired by your video I'm planning to store our recently acquired 20ft pontoon in our garage when it comes out of the lake in the coming weeks. Before I purchase the dollies from Harbor Freight I have an additional question: Why did you use a different style dolly in front than the ones used in back?
@stickandrudderindy6 жыл бұрын
Originally I used the lighter weight dollies on both front and back. I built a small trough in both of them so the keel of the pontoon would line up on it. What I found was the weight was significantly heavier on the back and it required the heavier dollies. We burst several wheel bearings on the rear because of the weight. The combination of the two dolly styles was perfect. We could move the pontoon easily around. This only works with a center lift trailer.
@edbreyer6 жыл бұрын
Robert, Thanks for the quick and detailed reply. I may just buy four of the metal heavy duty dollies (that you used in the back) - unless you think doing this will make it difficult slide the pontoon up against the garage wall.
@stickandrudderindy6 жыл бұрын
That’d work. I’d also suggest putting in a base of 1x6 material with a gap in the trough. This way you don’t have metal to metal and it keeps the pontoon a little higher in case you have GPS sensors on the back end. I attached my 1x6 with Velcro
@edbreyer6 жыл бұрын
Robert Haynes I ordered and received the dollies. You mentioned putting down a base of 1x6 material. Are you indicating a piece of 1x6 wood or something like a thick piece of felt? I ask because the dollies have a depression (designed for a car wheel) that would seem to make it difficult to use a piece of wood. So I'm thinking something flexible like felt or rubber could work.
@stickandrudderindy6 жыл бұрын
I’d put down 1x6 pine. I had GPS/fishfinder sensors on the rear of each pontoon. If you don’t have that, it may not be an issue.

Are all pontoon trailers like this?
@stickandrudderindy6 жыл бұрын
No. This is a “center lift trailer”. You see these a lot in boat yards cause they are easy to move boats. They won’t work with a “Tri-toon”. Most trailers are “float on” style. Center lift have proc/cons. Biggest problem is the very narrow wheel base. Personally, I like mine.
