Not a vet but one of my closest friends was. He gave me a plank of wood from the Saddam's palace. We're both big time duck hunters and I moderately collect custom made duck calls. After he unfortunately passed, I had a set of duck calls made from the wood. They sit in a display case with a his dog tags and a few of his other things. But I take them out and hunt with them on the anniversary of his death every year.

At 6:50 The writing on the green flag means Ya Qa’im, the family of Muhammad, which means standing, steadfast, or the survivor of the family of Muhammad, because all of them have been killed, and al-Qa’im means the Mahdi. That is why their name is the Mahdi Army (I mean the militia), and the Mahdi exists among the Shia only , so they think that he is alive until now Until the end of time and that he will come with Jesus and liberate the world from evil and he will pray with Jesus in Al-Aqsa Mosque in Gaza in Palestine or Israel depending on which side you are on and why the color of the flag is green because they (the Shia ) believe that the family of Muhammad used to wear a green shemagh cover on their heads.and sometimes you see them wrap green cloths on their hands (the Shia) for this reason, and it name is Alagh, at least this is what we call it in Iraq

A war chest is an irreplaceable, one-of-a-kind, hands-on museum of one particular man’s journey through the times his planet brought him. They should all be stored in a place of veneration upon a veteran’s passing, IMO.
@trapsquatch4937 Жыл бұрын
Mike, this video is awesome. My father volunteered for 2 tours in Vietnam, 101st Airborne and then MACV. When he came home he too had a war chest, but another soldier decided to steal all of the contents in my father's box. I would have loved to have the things in that chest to pass down to my kids some day. So as a son of a veteran, it's going to mean a ton to your kids to be able to talk about the things you did in your military career and have actual items from it. Thank you for your service!

Hey mike… ur channel is great to watch & learn from very experienced returned service men & women.. my father, was a clearance diver in the RAN, (multiple tours to vietnam). Upon returning once it had wrapped up, he applied for & had been granted an honourable discharge.. he went back to uni, retrained as a midwife to bring life into the world instead of taking it. He worked 4 many years on maternity wards, also other various wards too, in 1990 my father & 2 eldest brothers passed away in a boating accident on father’s day (an off-shore fishing comp, in midwest Western Australia). Of the very little possessions of my core family from that period his diving knife (that he used while spear fishing & scuba diving, is without doubt my most cherished items i have.. i too wish i had far far more knowledge & insight into my father’s life before i had been born but i hadn’t been told of his military service until well after the accident. I did meet one of the great men he did serve alongside, as a clearance diver in vietnam… those memories i still recount quite frequently with the utmost respect 4 ALL the veterans such as yourself & your comrades that made the ultimate sacrifice & didn’t get to return to their loved ones back home.. Keep up the damn fine work mike, MASS RESPECT take care & have a good week mike🍻👌

My "war box" (memories of service in both the Atlantic & Pacific fleets, as a Submariner) was "lost" by the Navy, when I moved from Hawai'i back to the mainland (Seattle at that time). There were items I had received from British SAS folks, British Submariners, Aussie Submariners, a couple of items from some Japanese SDF people who had attended a Tactics class I taught in my last stint at Pearl Harbor on Shore Duty, and countless pictures (old school pictures on photo paper) of people and places where I was able to take pictures.

There were two in my family. Dad was a bazookaman in Patton's army in WWII. As a young kid I used to sneak up into the attic and rifle through it. I remember a Vermacht garrison cap (that I commandeered later as a teen to drive my Jeep), Nazi officer's saucer caps, two different styles of dress daggers, two engraved with "Deutschland Uber Alles" that I got in trouble for for copying it down on a piece of paper. His issued (heavy) compass, and a huge Nazi flag that flew over the city hall of the city of Kassel, that he ran up and "liberated" when the German's surrendered. It was donated to a museum later. The P-08 Luger was kept in the top dresser drawer. The P-38 was stolen out of his duffle bag on the ship on the way home. Oh, and the dagger he made, as a machinist, when he got drafted in 1944. In general shape, it was an 8"-blade version of a Roman Gladius. My Vietnam box was a lot simpler. A set of ARVN camo fatigues (I was 120 lbs then, 265 now!), a US camo poncho liner (still have it), a couple of photo albums, my ration card for beer and cigarettes, and some "funny-money" script, and copies of my DD-214 discharge papers.

Hi Mike, I have My War Chest also. I worked out of Fob Wilson just south of Adwar, and was with 2-9 Cav. I carefully removed the tiles from the old Saddam murals, have them numbered. Last time my Family was in Town They kept pressuring me to throw away my totes of what I got in Iraq ( I can't do it.) I do have the first gen of the red velvet MNCI patches also, that I have up on my wall of units, and squadron, I worked with and flown with.

I never served, so hats off to everyone that has. Thank you to all. You had me thinking though, Mike. About the guys and gals who might get rid of the war chest. You Mike and many others dedicated your life to service. I'm sure you have seen your fair share of horror. But I'd be willing to bet that you have so many good memories too. Advancing and being good at what you worked towards. But I wonder if there is a large percentage that only signed up for 4 years. Maybe life wasn't great before service and maybe life wasn't great overseas. My heart definitely goes out to an individual that signed up to escape and try and grow. Only to maybe get hurt or see others get hurt. Maybe come out bitter feeling chewed up from their experience. Probably just goes to show the power of the individual mind and mindset. But that is just a guess. Just stinks to listen to podcasts and watch stuff where a lot of young men sound angry or depressed

I think this is a great idea. Warrior cultures have passed down stories throughout history. Historians may give an over view of a conflict, but warriors impart lessons. The best mentors of my life were older seasoned leaders. I have shrapnel I picked up out of my room after a VBIED bounced me off the roof of my tent in Afghanistan. That was my welcome to fighting season lesson. Arriving in winter I had the wrong impression of that AO (RC East, Wardak).... That impression changed in spring. Great video!
