Furoshiki are a Japanese tradition that could help the world eliminate so much paper waste. I use them regularly for gift-giving, and also carry one in my handbag for miscellaneous uses (wrapping small amounts of things, protecting a fragile purchase, drying a park bench that's damp with rain). They're also great for wrapping lunch boxes! Thank you so much for featuring them on your KZbin channel!

oh I've seen something similar to this! It was using paper though. Honestly using fabric sounds so much faster, that's a good idea

I like furoshiki, but they can be quite expensive, at least in USA. Sometimes more expensive than a gift inside ;)

Смеяна Жемчужная I’ve had great luck on eBay. The great thing about them is you can give the recipient the option of keeping or returning the cloth. I’ve gotten all of mine back, except one. But I’m completely ok with that. It was a joy to give it to the person. I love my collection!

It's literally just a piece of cloth. If go through the scarves section of goodwill stores you're almost guaranteed to find something suitable, and cheaper than a pack of chewing gum..

@@ivoryusagi I got some cute clothes from Lush and they have daisies and butterflies and bunnies and berries on them (respectively) and they’re super cute and made out of recycled plastic bottles! To me it’s very similar to opening a present wrapped in paper and there’s no waste 😁

Well, that was certainly simple, but I'm sort of disappointed. I guess I was hoping for something more. Also, I don't know anyone who wraps gifts with fabric. I was looking for a method for wrapping with paper. Oh well.

@Lala Fontaine Maybe it's traditional in Japan, but where I live fabric is expensive! Not practical at all.

Hi, I’m April. I live in the USA. I’ve been using this method of wrapping gifts for years. I first found the traditional wrapping cloths on eBay, and expanded my purchases to select scarves and other beautiful fabrics. I’ve learned to wrap other objects (wine, toys, odd-shaped items) by watching a few videos. My collection is modest, and I usually get my cloths returned so that I can reuse them for the next gift. I also wrap my bento in a furoshiki, as is traditional in Japan. I’m the only one in my family that does it but I don’t expect everyone to do it just because I do. There are times I also use paper to wrap but it is more rare these days. The cloth is so fast and pretty. Where do you live that makes fabric so expensive?
@April4YHWH
@April4YHWH 5 жыл бұрын
Additional to my previous comment, I also use my biggest cloths as extra bags. By tying a couple knots, you can have a functional shopping bag. When I travel, I always take a cloth just in case; takes almost zero room in your backpack and can be made standing up in seconds (think impulse buy at the farmers market!). It’s practical and simple - which is what I’m all about 👍
