I wouldnt call him the best guitarist, besides thats such a subjective judgement there is no answer. He is a too often overlooked talent whose sound is such a synergy of technical skills, gorgeous tone, a sense of melody and taste that he has no peers with the total package.

Talk about guitar playing with a soul. WOW!!!! The few things this lock down has done for me is 1) to loathe our sinister and evil American government and 2) to newly discover the awesome talents of musicians like Frank Marino and Lynyrd Skynyrd in depth. This song seriously has been catapulted to my top 10 favorite songs. And probably the most emotional guitar playing I've ever heard.

Prepare to be blown away? That's an understatement. I'm not sure I've ever heard of a faster(and cleaner sounding) guitar soloist than Frank! Amazing, amazing guitarist. Way overlooked, possibly under the shroud of the signature guitarists(e.g. Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, David Gilmour, etc) and the bands in the '70's from the UK and in the U.S. God bless Frank. I hope I can one day see him live in concert and be blown away!

I was at that show in San Antonio. Joe Freeman Colosseum maybe? I remember being buzzed and Frank was scooting around the stage by shuffling his feet while a strobe light was flashing - the effect was that it looked like he was sliding around the stage without his feet moving, while jamming his guitar. I saw him again in Corpus Christi in 2008. Amazing shows!

But once I listened to this track, well I was instantly involved hooked and I can't believe that I'd never heard anything by then until Tony said one day listen to this. But you've got him in Montreal and only play songs he played that he didn't write? I guess the music biz iz off no matter what country you come from. C'mon Frank...toss us a bone...throw out some home recordings or early club recordigs....Recor-digs...for your ole fans....before we getz too old. Love ya man. Windrose. This guy actually wrote me back in 99, (Remember dial up internet?) when I said, "Get off of your skinny ass and hit the road again. Ha. He did. Stories of a Hero (Guitar Intro) The time has come Said a young man to his bride The train waits outside And though I leave You know I'll keep you by my side She holds on a final time Soldier's gone to war Told her he's comin' home Soldier's gone to war He's gonna be known as a hero in his hometown, lord She stands alone On a platform lookin' sad He waves through a pane of glass And though she hopes He will be comin' home at last Her heart knows what's gonna pass Soldier has gone to war Don't know it, but he ain't comin' home no more Soldier has gone to war He's gonna be known as a hero in his hometown, lord (Guitar Solo) Soldier's gone to war Told her he's comin' home Soldier has gone to war He's gonna be known as a hero in his hometown, lord The paper falls to the floor from a trembling hand The words they burn to the soul And though she cries, she doesn't really understand The world's gone so cold Soldier went to war Told her he'd be comin' home Soldier's gone to war Gonna be a big hero in his hometown, lord (Transition with Heightened emotion) And the stories tell of bravery, yeah He was golden as the sun Well he fought for you and he fought for me, yeah And he died for everyone Stories of a hero Stories of a hero Well it seems as though the world ain't changed It goes on and on for years When men must die to be called brave To earn respect among their peers Stories of a hero Stories of a hero Well it seems as though the world don't change It goes on for years and years When men must die to be called brave To earn respect among their peers Stories of a hero Stories of a hero (Guitar Outro) Stories of a hero Stories of a hero Stories of a hero Of a hero

I almost forgot about Frank Marino. People used to say he was the best guitarist. I didn't hear much of him, just occasionally hear him on KPRI after midnight, and kind of being a little intimidated by it. But I was telling a friend who is a Rush fan that I confused Rush with Mahogany Rush for meany years. People would say "Rush is a great band!" and I would say "Yeah great stuff Frank Marino is the best." They would think I was just changing the subject lol. So more recently I decided to check him out, I can't believe he's not more famous. He's the real deal.

Many, many years ago, a friend says, "I heard a great new band, Canadian, three guys. 'Rush', I think. You gotta hear those guys, get it!" I go to the record store, hit the record rack under 'R', didn't find it. So I start the whole fucking alphabet just in case it was misplaced. Get to the 'M' section, ah, Mahogany Rush, Live. Ask the dude at the counter, he didn't know jack. Flip it over to read the back, three guys, Canadian. Maybe this is it, I buy it. They're Canadian, took it home. Slapped it on the phonograph (remember those?) Call my friend over, he cusses me out, "That ain't the band, you ass!" I turn on the album where I left off, "King Bee/Backdoor Man", first solo, his eyes almost pop out of their sockets. Tells me, "Fuck those other 'Rush' guys, these guys are lightyears better!!" I hear Getty Lee and I want to puke! Give me fingernails on a chalk-board instead, anytime! Been a Frank Marino fan since then. Been to over four dozen of his performances. Most were in Toronto venues around the university. Some were four hours long and no one ever left until he was done! Springsteen is the other who has enough material to do it without boring anyone. Gotta say very few can sling a guitar solo as melodic as Frank Marino's 'World Anthem' and his studio rendering of 'Norwegian Wood' (made pussies of the Beatles' version) and Joe Satriani's 'Always with me,always with you' LIVE! Both are absolute magic LIVE. I never buy studio-recorded music anymore, regardless of band. If it ain't a LIVE recording, it ain't getting bought. LIVE or nothing! Live performances is where a performer proves themselves. Can't hide behind lip-sync, dubs, phoney effects, Auto-tune, etc. Live recordings or nothing!

Monster song from a monster player. FM stands in line with the greatest guitar players of all time. Like for example Roy Buchanan he did not get the recognition he deserves. But it doesn`t really matter. The music speaks for itself.
