Only came across this and the others in the series just now (can thank KZbin’s dodgy recommendations for that) but I quite enjoyed them. You can tell Wolfeson did their homework when writing this, it might not be written using the same enchanting poetry as Tolkien, though in saying that to create something new within Tolkien’s world that fits so well within its lore is it’s self more than enough, great stories, and great narration! You have a new subscriber in me for sure!

Im loving this concept of one of the ring-wraiths. Now what would be fitting for Zagar in game (and this is just my opinion) is he could possibly be one of the Nazgul for Dol Goldur, working to destroy the elves of Lorien and the Woodland Realm as a sort of revenge.

Ehhh ... so now one of the Nazgûl wasn't even a lord or a king, not even a colonial vassal of Numenor which would've justified Sauron's interest in terms of global strategy, he just was a Numenorean war veteran with PTSD ... Not even sure why Sauron chose this lad Also not a big fan of the idea that Sauron started distributing the rings a couple of years only after his defeat against Numenor's armada. Considering the first recorded appearance of the Nazgûl was in S.A 2251 it feels too long of a time for the 9 to succumb. (and I know it took 500 years for Gollum to become what he became, but he was almost collateral, his perversion came from the Ring's innate power. With the Nine, Sauron was wearing the One, he would've actively corrupted the minds of the Nazgûl, doesn't make sense to me.)
@Antipius4 жыл бұрын
It is said in the story that he was one of the warriors who fought most valiantly and made a huge contribution to Numenorean war effort in Eriador! He may not have been a high ranking official or king, but he was a very valiant warrior who Sauron knew he could corrupt.
@carolusmartellus25204 жыл бұрын
@@Antipius Yeah but what's in it for Sauron in the long run, if he's just some renegade warrior (as valiant as he may have been)? The way I see it, the whole point of giving the Rings to great lords and kings was that he could enslave entire nations through manipulating their rulers, slowly bringing thousands upon thousands to worship him through his puppets on the thrones of men. Sauron is the Great Deceiver after all, his greatest strength was his ability to manipulate and corrupt through lies and trickery. What use would Zagar be to Sauron in his ambitions for Middle-Earth, apart from being an above average warlord-to-be?
@franzluggin3984 жыл бұрын
@@carolusmartellus2520 What you say makes sense, and it would be strange if the stories were all like that, but I could see Sauron wanting at least ONE human assassin so he could have more options open to him afterwards, like corrupting some spoiled second son of a powerful Numenorean family and making sure said second son has a surprising and very timely succession without Sauron personally being involved in the "tragic accident" of his parents and older sibling(s). Both because Sauron might wish to remain undetected and because the corrupted lord-to-be might not yet be fully under his influence, and Sauron killing his parents, or making him kill his own family, might be just about the only thing that could still snap him out of Sauron's control. That's just one possible scenario, I'm sure the Great Deceiver knows many ways how an extra blade at the right time can be worth more than a thousand swords in pitched battle.
4 жыл бұрын
You wont like any of the other stories.
@DDragon5014 жыл бұрын
Charles Marty the Nazgûl didn’t appear until about 500 years after Sauron’s initial defeat at the hands of the Númenóreans. During this time, Sauron was rebuilding his forces. You have to remember that Sauron is *not* an idiot. On the contrary, he is very intelligent. If he moved too fast, the Númenóreans might have caught on to this. That’s something he can’t afford. By choosing who to provide the rings to carefully, he is able to subtly expand his power and influence. Also, while the men who became Nazgûls were under the influence of Sauron from the start, they were not necessarily under his complete control. Nor did they become the Nazgûl overnight. They are Nazgûl. Literally “Ring Wraith” in Black Speech. They are men who became wraiths because they wear the Rings of Power. The thing I loved about the way Shadow of War portrayed the Nazgûl was that they weren’t all the same people who had been originally given the rings. Some of them were people who took the rings and were corrupted by them, which is the real point of the Rings of Power: Men are corrupted by their lust for power and glory, their pride in themselves, their greed for more.
