It should also be noted that in the book, Frodo, Sam, Merry, and Pippin get their swords not from Aragorn but from their venture in the Barrow-downs. Fittingly, Merry uses his sword from the Barrow-downs against the Witch-king in The Return of the King.

I think that the idea of Sauron favoring a more secretive, borderline espionage type approach during the early stages of the War of the Ring is awesome. It would make sense for a ruler like Sauron whose primary objective is to control the world, not just destroy it. He's like a sleazy politician.

@@LoreOfTheRingsYT What do you think about Peter Jackson choice to miss him?
@LoreOfTheRingsYT4 жыл бұрын
@@marcconles6811 I think it was correct, as he had limited time. The main feature of Bombadil in the book is to save Frodo and his companions while starting out and learning. Frodos resistance in the barrow is a leap for him as character. In the movies, Frodo appears weak compared to the Nazgûl, so I think Jackson did the correct choice based upon his situation.

The animation definitely adds a layer of depth to this, but those who want written information about this in Tolkien’s own words can read the chapter “The Hunt for the Ring” in Unfinished Tales. However, that chapter ends just as the Nazgul are arriving at Hobbiton. All of the rest of this is original, and quite exciting.

So the Nazgul are defeated/repelled by fire, water, a lone Gandalf, a lone Glorfindel and even a long Aragorn. I know the first two are badasses but Aragorn, despite being a great human warrior, is still just one man. So how are the Nazgul also considered so formidable? And what is it about water that hurts them so much? So what do they do when it rains?
@Sting8284 жыл бұрын
Aragorn is the descendant of Elendil himself, and has somewhat true Numenorian blood. He's also stated to be superior to all his predecessors save Elendil and Isildur. Aragorn also had a will strong enough to completely dominate Sauron in the Palantir, so by the end of the TA, he's basically the most dangerous man alive thanks to his powerful blood and expert fighting ability.
@LoreOfTheRingsYT4 жыл бұрын
This is correct. Aragorn basically wields the same stature and power as Elendur (the son of Isildur) according to Elrond. Elendur again, shared very similar traits with Elendil. Aragorn is like you say, the most bad ass man in Middle-Earth at the end of the Third Age.
@LoreOfTheRingsYT4 жыл бұрын
Tolkien actually had some problems with this, as the Nazgûl had to cross many rivers in their path. How did they cross the greyflood for instance? Tolkien never solved this issues, and he didn't say why the Nazgûl hated waters, but some speculate it is because the power of the Valar Ulmo flows through rivers. We will never know for certain. As for the power of the Ringwraiths, they are not as deadly towards Elves and Maiar, as they can see the Ringwraiths in the unseen. As for Aragorn, see the other reply. Hope that cleared something up, and if it didn't, I do have a Nazgûl video which might be helpful
@NOIDEAIWILLJUSTUSEHAILEYIGUESS4 жыл бұрын
Also. Quick question, Ive always assumed Anarion to be equals with his brother Isildur, since Anarion also lead one of the most impressive defences of Gondor, but is Aragorn also technically the heir of Anarion due to his relation to king Ondoher’s daughter? Anarion was powerful and wise, and I wonder if Aragorn was his equal.
@LoreOfTheRingsYT4 жыл бұрын
@@NOIDEAIWILLJUSTUSEHAILEYIGUESS Technically yes, he would. Its often overlooked since he is the heir of Elendil which was basically the mightiest. But yes, Anárion was likely like Faramir, while Isildur more represents Boromir. That's just my quick perspective and assumption of it. The reason I brought up Elendur, is because he was believed to become as mighty as Elendil, his grandfather.

Are you saying that Osgiliath was attacked (capturing the eastern side of the city divided by the Anduin) solely for the purposes of sneaking the Nazgul out of Mordor to begin an urgent search for the One Ring? I find this a bit hard to believe. I can think of a dozen different ways that the black riders could have easily left or entered Mordor without the Gondorians being the wiser. I assumed Osgiliath was just a practice run for the real deal to come. Sort of like the Spanish Civil War was for the Axis before WWII.
@LoreOfTheRingsYT3 жыл бұрын
This is exactly the case that we are represented to us by Tolkien. The thing is, it bought the riders time before the wise noticed. It was genius
