loved this vlog so much!! i really need to do a rewatch of the twilight zone this season, there's just something so engaging about the way they were able to blend aspects of horror and social issues that just always worked so well for me. also i'm really thinking about giving if we were villains another chance......maybe as an audiobook this time lol it feels so weird being a huge shakespeare stan and not having fully read that book. also my favorite shakespeare play will always and forever be hamlet 😊 though romeo & juliet and much ado about nothing are kind of a toss up for second place lol

Great vlog, i have a Barnes and Noble leatherbound hardcover of Shakespeare plays. I remember loving Hamlet, Macbeth, and Romeo and Juliet back in my high school years in 2000-2004.🎃🍁🍂📚☕🦇💀👻

the music in this was so soothing! I remember there was this series of books being published of Shakespeare retellings by contemporary authors. It includes Vinegar Girl by Anne Tyler, The Gap Of Time by Jeanette Winterson, Hag-Seed by Margaret Atwood, Shylock Is My Name by Howard Jacobson. Hogarth Shakespeare! that's what it was called. idk if they plan on doing more, I know there's a few others I didn't list. I actually just read The Tempest and it was... probably at the bottom of the list of Shakespeare plays I've read. But I have this book Miranda & Caliban, which is a retelling of it, so I'll be able to read that with more context. I haven't read If We Were Villains, yet, and not having read King Lear or Julius Cesar is why I've put it off- I'd prefer to have the context and not encounter potential spoilers. This also reminds me that I plan on doing a sort of Jane Eyre & retellings 'project' next year. I'm finally deciding to put it into action. I've been wanting to reread Jane Eyre for years, and I have a few retellings of it. I've had reading them 'together,' so to speak, as an idea for a while now. I may have already told you this but one of my movie friends' favorite show is The Twilight Zone and he named our small discord server, where we mostly talk about movies, The Movies Are Due On Maple Street. I remember sending you a screenshot of his fav episodes but I don't remember if I told you about the discord name. oh, also his youtube channel is Maple Street Movies, so he also turned it into his whole online branding.

I've been wanting to try Jane Smiley's A Thousand Acres, which is inspired by King Lear, based in Iowa. If i think of orders I'll add them 😅. My favorite play is probably Hamlet or Othello.

I read A Thousand Acres this summer! I didn't realize it was a King Lear retelling because I'm not familiar with KL and I had just heard great things about the novel. I think Nathan from Nathan's Nook mentioned it earlier this year/summer and then I saw the audiobook was available, so I listened to it. I just watched the film adaptation a couple days ago, too.

I'm gonna try "Lady Macbeth", it's too hard to read it in english? because it's not my first language.

I would say it's a bit more difficult to read as it uses a lot of descriptive language that might be difficult to get into!

loved your interpretation of Lady Macbeth (there is also a 2016 movie with Florence Pugh). I was excited to read All's well... Lovely leaf ring by the way, where is it from?

Omg thank you for reminding me about that movie! I’ve been meaning to watch it because I loveee Florence! I wish I remembered the name of the ring brand! I got it in a kiosk in Bryant Park one Christmas in NYC!

that film is based on the novella Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District by Nikolai Leskov. It's still interesting in regard to Macbeth but not a retelling, more so the title is inspired by the character because of a certain part of the plot- a couple parallels.
