Being a Hatfield from Williamson in Southern WV, I thought I had heard all the stories but did learn a few new things on this video. My dad was born in Sprigg 5 years after Devil Anse died.

Has anybody ever told you Steve, that your voice is identical to Eddie Stubbs from the Grand Ole Opry?

Somebody mentioned that a few years ago in a comment on the audio podcast, but I don't really hear it...I am very honored that you think so, though!

Anse basically said you n***as bet not come around here or you’ll be dealt wit And this is coming from a black man from DC who’s watched the HBO miniseries Hatfields and McCoy when it came out over 10 years ago. Great content btw

Yeah, that is exactly what he said. Thanks for the compliment; we're glad you liked the video.

He's a very interesting guy. I wish I could have hung out with him some. I was born way too late in time

why was Randell McCoy Buried in the Dils Cemetery? Colonel John Dils of the 39th Kentucky Infantry , who fostered both Perry Cline and Frank Philips who had many grievances against WA Hatfield is the most interesting and influential player in the whole so called feud, this is the real back story complete with Blue VS Gray setting the scenario to the later incidents which were connected after they took place to justify coal and mineral companies land grabs

I watch all your videos and I think y'all are the very best at telling the history of the feud, my name is Michael and I live in Irvine Kentucky, thanks

Thank you so much, Michael! We're glad you like our telling of the stories (because there are many) of the most famous feud in America...

Ran’l married again after Sally’s death and had a child. The second marriage didn’t end well for him.
@StoriesofAppalachia Жыл бұрын
I assume you're talking about Hattie? The 18 year old he married when he was 73 and who later divorced him. Yup, that was a bad decision on his part. We didn't specifically mention it in the episode because most sources don't mention her or the marriage. After the episode aired, though, I did happen to find a copy of the marriage certificate. We may update this story. Thanks!

That's wild. Wonder what made her want to marry a man so old?

I always heard that my family was direct descendants of the McCoys, but I live in the suburbs of Detroit & have no interest in anything southern so I never gave it a chance growing up... recently I took over looking into my moms and dads side and yea I am the great-great-great grandson of Nancy McCoy - do you think HBO owe's many any $$ XD

Does any films made it today from their reenactments?? I saw Annie Oakley Do some shooting on film around the early 1900's so I was wondering.
@StoriesofAppalachia10 ай бұрын
There are still photos of re-enactments of the feud you can find on the Library of Congress website, but they are low quality and not available for download or use without special permission. I’ve not found any films but if they exist they might be archived by the state of West Virginia or in the possession of descendants of the families.

Is there a link to that newspaper article "The Hatfields as Thief-Catchers"?
@StoriesofAppalachia11 ай бұрын
No, I don't have a link to that newspaper article as it's only available on newspapers.com under a subscription. If you have access to newspapers.com, just go on and do a search for that and you should find it as it was published in several newspapers across the country. The tunnel is known by many as the Hatfield tunnel.

Great video. Can you do more on the lesser known family feuds, riots, vendettas, etc
@StoriesofAppalachia Жыл бұрын
We have done a few of them, like the Howard/Turner and French/Eversole feuds, but we are always on the lookout for others and plan to tell their stories, too. Thanks for watching!
