Storm drain cleaning with whirlpool, Portland, Oregon, USA

Finally, rain has come! Oregon has been in a drought. With the rains comes clogged storm drains. This one was a joy to clean up and even resulted in a whirlpool. Lucky me.

I saw two grown men,obviously not known to each other,arguing in the street about who should be allowed to unblock a drain.(It was actually a really good blockage,right across the road,about one foot deep.)Both had rakes and cameras and were determined to be Post 10s.He has a lot to answer for!

That's a good philosophical / evolutionary question. Maybe we like draining things because it makes it harder for snakes and crocodiles to hide. Maybe prehistorically when we drained areas we'd find good grub. Perhaps it's just whirlpools are such a novelty in nature that we find it so entertaining.
