I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of forgiveness I got from this ball. I do have other recent strong asyms by Storm, and the gravity evolve was noticeably more versatile off of my hand. I was able to play far left (generally a no no for me with strong balls/covers, as they'll read to early) by moving my target it. It gave me the hold I needed. I was also able to play straight, off the back, and let it roll it's way in (my shot is very low tilt when I throw in this manner). I'm rev dominant, med to low tilt.

@@webmoss pretty much. The spec cover is very strong but as it gets more lane shine it definitely gets more controlled and predictable. My promotion Out of the box was super aggressive. But after using it a few games it is still strong but very controllable. I even just shot 300 with it Tuesday night

@@webmoss thanks it is a very great ball imo and yes once you get a few games on it should react more consistently I usually start with my feet on 25 and shoot for about 15 at the arrows to start the night. Tend to adjust from there depending on ball reaction and how the ball exits the deck

This is EXACTLY my experience with the SPEC cover ever since it came out. I drilled my GE to be shapely but I feel like I can’t trust it in the backends or back of my mids

SPEC was a failed marketing debacle. Now that Hammer has "not urethane" Storm will get to see first hand how they should have presented this coverstock. SPEC is Storm's "not urethane" cover but they were 4 years too early and didn't tell people what they were actually trying to do.

Spec coverstock is appearing to be questionable. The Crux Prime I have doesn't hook. Doesn't go straight. Doesn't roll. Doesn't skid. Doesn't hit if I do get it to the pocket. Halo solid, Sync, and Intense, all of which I've recently drilled new, work well over a good range of conditions.

If it's at box finish, it can take a number of games to lane shine and stop hooking at your feet.

I am a little confused when you say a ball like the Evolve is slow response, yet it hooks immediately. To my mind that is a fast response ball because it responds to friction quickly, as soon as it is laid down. A slow response ball in my mind is a ball that ignores friction until it gets further up the lane and then finally responds. So the terminology seems reversed. So rather than Slow Response and Fast Response, I think Early Response and Late Response more accurately describe the ball shapes. Thanks for the great review of the Evolve! The Evolve looks great for the straight track player like myself. I may just have to pick one up.

Not slow response. Slow motion. It hooks early which gives it the appearance that its hooking slowly as it's more of a rounded shape rather than a quick hockey stick motion down lane

I was mainly criticizing the new terminology of Slow Response and Quick Response which don't really help people understand real ball motion since they seem reversed from what the ball actually does. I think ball shape terminology is much better to help people pick the right ball. Would you say the Evolve is stronger than the Pro Motion? Earlier and straighter through the lane? Better suited to heavy oil and players that want to go straighter to the pocket?

I like the idea of the uncut videos, but i don't like the idea that i have to judge a ball thrown without knowing the pattern AND without the ball being wiped from shot to shot. I mean...especially strong covers, come back with lots of oil. How can you even condcider throwing it without wiping it off, when you compare shots?

Jeramie Scott thanks. Could you elaborate? Is it because of the pearl cover to get down the lane cleaner and store its energy in the till the back part? I’ve had some success before with the halo solid when I moved left with it. But since I’ve been experimenting with my hand release my halo hasn’t been the same. I’m more of a 3/4 roll instead of a around the side like I used to be

SPEC isn't a cover that over-reacts, so moving left and trying to play extreme angles is not its strong suit. SPEC is like a snow tire, it's going to dig in early, and just continue digging the entire way down the lane. If you want to hook the entire lane, you want something that stores it's energy to make a sharp and defined breakpoint down lane. Spec seems best suited for controlling the lane, as it's less sensitive to oil patterns, wet/dry, or over/under. In the past the best description I've heard, is the Spec reads and reacts to the lane surface, not the oil on top of it. That's obviously an exaggeration but gets the point across well. Spec just consistently rolls shot after shot, minimizes mistakes, and reduces mistakes, by not punishing the bowler with crazy erratic movements. For me, Spec is a cover that I can stay in the pocket, reliably, all night long. That doesn't mean it will necessarily give me the best 'carry' in my arsenal, but I know that I can play 'safe' with Spec. I think that's the best definition for me, safe. Whereas some equipment a slight mistake is a nasty split, or a skid through the 3/6, Spec is just going to smoothly, consistently, and reliably hit the pocket. When it's the right ball, it's strings of strikes, when it's the wrong ball, it's still in the pocket, and manageable leaves. Sometimes, that means a world of difference.

It's hugely dependent on the bowler. I was able to go far left with the gravity evolve, but it required moving my target in as well. That gave me the hold I need to not blow through the face. It's not going to snap back in like a weaker cover would. Then again, I'm rev dominant and fairly low tilt, so I can play left with weaker balls (like a hustle ink with some of the shine knocked off), and prefer to, as the stronger covers will read too early. The gravity evolve is one of the few strong asyms that I'm able to play left with. I was pleasantly surprised. I was also able to play straighter, straight off the back, and let it roll it's way in without it overreacting. In my game, once the lanes break down, everything wants to go through the face. This gave me a surprising amount of forgiveness compared the the other strong asyms that I have from Storm.
