This is the moment an easyJet pilot was forced to abort a landing at Gatwick on Thursday as Storm Nelson battered Britain with high winds and heavy rain.
The video showed flight EZY52FR from Faro in Portugal coming into land in torrential conditions just after 12.30pm before wobbling then pulling up again.

The flight on an Airbus A320 circled around West Sussex for ten minutes, then landed successfully on the second attempt.
EasyJet has yet to comment on the incident.

Why should Easyjet comment on a standard operational proceedure? This is what they are supposed to do if the weather adversely affects the final moments of the landing approach.

Exactly. What a crass bit of reporting by Telegraph. No "comment" is necessary from easyJet. They don't comment on any other standard flight procedures.
@hashtag_thisguy
@hashtag_thisguy Ай бұрын
@@TheTruthHz asking for a comment doesnt mean justification or negativity, the company could easily put out a positive comment praising the level of training and skills all Easyjets pilots go through and the company's continued commitment to passenger safety.

@@hashtag_thisguy I'm not disputing that. However, there was no need to include the text... unless they were implying a comment was necessary.

'Easyjet have yet to issue a comment about the incident' The pilot made sure there was no incident at all. Nothing to comment on.

Dang good flying to keep that under control when it was swerving all over the place. Congrats to that pilot on both skill and good sense to abort.

There's no need for EasyJet to comment on this. This is proper procedure for any situation in which a landing is not felt, by the pilot, to be safe. Go-arounds exist to prevent people going into the ground.

It's called a go-around folks. Pretty basic stuff. These pilots are trained for this from day1

That's probably why the guy in the video said, "go around".

This is not an incidence. Missed approaches are performed routinely for a variety of reasons.

What's to comment about, the pilot didn't feel safe in the bad weather and pulled around for a second try, he did the right thing and probably saved himself and his passengers, good judgement on his behalf.

@fsxn3rd

0:49 Absolutely no need for a comment. Nor is it an incident! It is a standard missed approach carried out by the crew. Happens all the time and is a completely normal and practiced phase of the flight

Could have used opportunity to put out a simple statement (if asked) praising the pilot and positive company PR with regards to pilots capability, training & performing to the expected industry safety standards in all weather conditions and the continued commitment to passenger safety.... Not all press statements have to be negative...

The Telegraph reporting has really gone downhill. A bit of basic research would have shown that this is completely normal and 'go arounds' are totally acceptable. Great flying from the pilots!

Not news worthy. Aborted landings are semi-common. My uncle is an airline pilot and has to do this several times a year due to weather. It is entirely normal and performed dozens of times a day around the world across countless airports.

It is. There were heavy winds yesterday and I was wondering was there air travel disruption. This video gave some perspective. News need to be about awareness, not always some big deal.

I experienced much worse than that a few years ago on German Wings flight coming in from Hamburg. Pilots aborted first landing as plane tilted over on touch down and wing nearly hit grass by runway - really bad. After a bumpy 20 minutes going round he tried again but abandoned at about 100 feet. We went all the way back to Hamburg for the night. I have flown regularly for 45 years and this was one of only two incidents that properly scared me. Some people on that flight said will never fly again. The other bad one was in a 12 seater going to Bern Switzerland from London City. Took off in a thunderstorm from the dockland runway and almost immediately after take-off hit an air pocket - very nearly went in the harbour water. Properly scary and small planes are much less safe statistically. Large air pockets in tropics are quite normal - I always keep my seat belt fastened - I have seen people hit their heads on roof of plane and need hospital treatment. Luckily Kai Tak airport in Hong Kong is no more, landing there as typhoons began was always an adrenalin ride!

Why do Easy Jet have to make a ‘comment’? The pilot made a safety decision. If only Politicians made decisions so decisive, instead of just making ‘comments’?
