He gave the information to her in a rather confusing, scattered manner, so, she was just trying to piece it together in order to get the right information and get the right services dispatched to the right place. Speaking as someone who has had to call emergency services, the dispatcher will repeat the information back to you or have you repeat it if they can't understand you to make sure they have everything right. This is because there have been instances where services were dispatched to the wrong address due to misunderstandings between the caller and the dispatcher. It's best to take 30 seconds to clarify than to go to the wrong place when someone's life is in danger.

When I was a little girl my mama was terrified of lightning. She'd cover all of our windows with blankets and make a pallet in the middle of the livingroom floor. Then all four of us kids would be made to lay down with her and we'd cuddle until it was over. I've always liked the lightning during the storms. It's beautiful but it can be terrifyingly deadly. 🤔

@wadewilson8011
@wadewilson8011 Жыл бұрын
Not so sure it was his mom who taught him "ALL" of that. Probably most of it, but some was probably from school or other trusted adults. The reason I said that is she kinda panicked (understanding) told him to call his grandmother rather than 911. I'd imagine the reason for doing that was to make her mom aware of the situation (an adult) to handle things, come over & take care of the kids, call 911, etc. However, He took it upon himself to not listen to her and he called 911 instead. Which saved her life. HE knew that calling 911 immediately was the right thing to do. So it goes back to what I was saying. If SHE taught him all those things herself, it's MORE THAN LIKELY (I didn't say guaranteed) she would've told him to go ahead and call 911. Because she's already made him aware what to do in an emergency. I just feel like he's a very perceptive and observant kid and picks things up very easily.

I've now had 4 very close encounters with lightning (also live in Texas); 2 of which happened during my youngest pregnancy with my youngest daughter and I felt the strikes coming long before they happened. First time I was about preteen age and standing at a screen door wanting to dance in the rain because there wasn't any sign of lightning or thunder. Was told no right before a bolt hits a tree 30 feet away. The 2nd time was during my pregnancy 13 years ago and I had told my husband while we were a few blocks from home visiting a friend that I didn't feel right and needed to go home. After pulling into the driveway and our kids making it inside the house, I refused to get out of the truck and screamed at my husband as he was walking back to the truck from the house that something bad was going to happen and as soon as he reached to open the truck door to talk to me a bright flash and deafening clap went off over us somewhere that produced so much electricity he saw electricity hit his fingertips from the truck door. The 3rd time was 2 weeks later and I got that feeling of doom again while still pregnant and driving with my 3 year old in the backseat and suddenly while at a red light I saw 2 bolts come down just a couple yards to each side of my vehicle, again that deafening clap of thunder that always comes simultaneously when it hits so close. The 4th time (which I actually have the picture of from a resident who just happened to be taking pictures in our direction of the huge lightning storm on the other side of our small town) a bolt hit a light pole a few houses down, blew the concrete out of the ground from the pole to partway up a neighbor's driveway, traveled through to their house, blew up their water heater and started their home on fire. I happened to be awake when it hit in the middle of the night and somehow my entire household slept through the whole thing, including all the fire department showing up on our cul de sac despite me walking in and out of the house and talking to fellow neighbors who also heard it. There's kind of a 5th time but I wasn't aware of it (my husband was) so I don't really count it, but another bolt struck the tree in the yard directly across from ours during a storm while I was taking a nap. I don't know if it's typical to have so many encounters like that, especially when we live in a part of Texas that isn't known for constant storms, but it's definitely terrifying to know that this can happen at any point to anyone! As much as I'm in absolute love with thunderstorms, I am always a little on edge in them. Then again, I love that kind of adrenaline 🤦‍♀️🤣

Most homes have their circuit breaker box, in the old days it was the fuse box, grounded to the water pipes. Any activity dealing with water should be suspended during electrical storms. Also, stay away from windows. If you still use a landline in your home for calls, suspend using the phone as lightening can come through the receiver.

another thing about electricity, it's not just the volts and amps that kill you, it also comes down to whether or not you complete the circuit allowing the current to pass through your heart (which can kill you). and i have heard about lightning strike victims having their nervous system all messed up, like whatever things they touch that are hot would feel ice cold, and whatever would be cold would be piping hot. also strike victims experience weird twitches they cannot explain and other things related to the nerves that probably got fried

@mikejohn1202
@mikejohn1202 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, these days both electrical heat and air conditioning normally share the same ducts to enable heat or cool air to all rooms. It's not well known but heating technicians and plumbers sometimes ground a furnace or water heater to the basement floors. Mostly because it's easy to do. With plumbing in private residences (new const) being plastic (Pex tubing) these days it doesn't matter.

Some lightning safety tips for both your body and property: 1. Lightning striking the ground near a septic tank can cause methane gas to ignite and send a fireball up through the plumbing and destroy your toilet. You do not want to be taking a shit while this happens. 2. If a metal air vent is above a toilet or on the ground nearby a toilet, lightning can travel through the ventilation and exit via the metal air vent and destroy a toilet. You do not want to be taking a shit OR pissing while this happens. You can find photos of toilets destroyed in this manner, as well as through septic tank gas ignition, online. 3. Don't use the fucking sink or shower while a storm is nearby. 4. Unplug your electronics. A surge protector is not adequate to protect against a lightning striking your home or a power line nearby a home. Surge protectors at best are designed to handle 2000-3000ish joules of energy, and the average consumer surge protector is designed for MUCH less. A lightning strike can deliver 10 BILLION joules of energy. If even as little as 0.0004% of a lightning strike's energy is delivered into your home's electrical wiring, that's 4000 joules and surpasses what a high grade surge protector or UPS can handle.

My mother was stood near the cooker in our kitchen when I was a child. She turned away from the cooker and looked back and the whole cooker was glowing blue and never worked again. A lightening storm outside had basically sent a bolt of lightening into the house and if she had been near the cooker she would have been hurt. Some years later I was also hit by lightening in a farm building. The entire farm we lived on was surrounded by a bend in the river which meant that storms tracked around it along the river so we got a lot of lightening.

When I was young my mum would open 2 windows “so the lightning could pass through!” She had some strange, mythical ideas passed on to her from her mum. My mum told me that as a young woman, she was driving a tractor, when a thunderstorm started. She was wearing a head scarf, held in place by metal hair grips. Her hair at the front wasn’t covered by the head scarf. She said that she got a sensation of someone running their fingers through her exposed hair. The vertical tractor exhaust was struck by lightning. When she got home & removed her headscarf, the hair that had been exposed fell out.

Sometimes we think the things old people say or do makes no sense or they are crazy. I remember growing up my great-grandmother and grandmother would turn off everything in the house. They'll tell you to stay off the phone (land-lines at the time) lightning can travel thru the lines, don't bathe while it's storming (metal piping and water - both a good conductor of electricity) and don't go in the kitchen (metal in the kitchen- draws lightening). Sit still and let the Lord do his work. :) They would turn off ceiling fans, a/c, tv. We would be complaining because we would be sweating. My grand parents would look at us and tell us to be quiet and sit still until the storm passes. There was wisdom in what they did. They may not have been the most educated generation as far as schooling but they had the most wisdom and common sense. I do the same thing they've taught me when it storms with my family. Thanks GRAND PARENTS!

And to those that are afraid of lightning penetrating through the roofs of their homes... IT WOULD BE WISE TO INVEST IN LIGHTNING RODS (OR IN THE UK LIGHTNING CONDUCTORS) AND HAVE THEM INSTALLED ALL AROUND THE ROOF. I'M ONLY SAYING THIS JUST FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY AND THE SAFETY OF OTHERS INSIDE YOUR HOUSE AS WELL AS FOR THE STRUCTURAL AND ELECTRICAL INTEGRITY OF YOUR HOME AND ITS CONTENTS.
