Never buy a house in Florida. No thank you!!!
@kimberlycooper4170
@kimberlycooper4170 Ай бұрын
@@michelleg4069 , building a house, in Florida, is still possible. You just make sure that the house is built to withstand category 5 hurricanes. Also, build so that the first floor of living is high enough to be higher than a category 5 hurricane's tidal storm surge. If you build at an elevation high enough to be a non-evacuation zone, make sure that the foundation is high enough (1 to 3 feet probably) that the tropical rain doesn't flood your house. For any ground-level garage or storage space, install French drains.

Yes. I'm amazed that people buy new houses with the living area directly on low ground. For low ground, houses need to be built with the first floor as a garage and the living area on the 2nd and above floors. People buy houses with the living area directly on low ground. Their homes get flooded every time there's excessive rain or there's anything above regular tide. Then, they must replace sheet rock, carpet, furniture, etc.

@@CuNguyen-ct8nk Yes, I've lived in a hurricane-prone area for decades. I have never had flooding, from high tide, because I live far enough from the beach and high enough in elevation. Other people, who bought low enough in elevation, have high-tide flooding at least once a year. What little flooding, that I get during rain storms, was easily solved by installing a French drain.

I don’t know if these folks are new to Florida, but everyone knows to put hurricane shutters on the windows in a storm or hurricane event!! This is especially true if you live on or near the water. Had they put metal storm shutters on their windows and patio The water would not have blown through the glass that way, inundating the entire house. I hope their insurance company doesn’t give them a problem, because they did not at least try to mitigate the potential loss. This is very sad for these people. 😢

I understand people should always try to be grateful, however it is extremely tone deaf to not know the specific circumstances of others situations but understand severity of the situation and still tell someone to be grateful. If we are only on the outside looking in then we don’t know how much this has impacted them. For all anyone knows they might be homeless…. But people expect them to what? Be grateful for their life’s getting turned upside down? 99.99% of the time, a person will be devastated when these disasters hit NO MATTER the circumstances and that’s okay. If you're rich enough to afford it then you're rich enough to have it repaired. Stay safe.

Flooding can be devastating, not only physically but emotionally, too, especially when it affects things that hold meaning. It's hard to see personal items damaged and treated as though they have no value.🙏🏾🙁

This woman was very fortunate that she had a second floor to take refuge on, but in some places even the second floors were wiped out. You can see multiple homes in drone videos where only the ground floor stilts were still standing, with nothing atop them anymore.

I am a pool contractor. Out on the islands of Sarasota everyone's pool pump was submerged in salt water as was a lot of the electrical outside. From Helene then milton a week later. I can't believe the amount of people who think it will just dry out and work again😂. Every single pump is shot. Also the worst place to be standing is in the flood waters..... think about all the live electrical in one floor of a house..... get the hell out of there!!! Why do people do this?
