Just an incredible episode with enough philosophic content to fill up a college course. If there is just 1 episode that is mandatory for understanding LOST, this is the 1. Without it here is what would go unanswered. -where did the smoke monster come from? -why was Jacob the protector? -what was he protecting? -where did the rules come from? -who makes the rules? -why does the island need to be protected? And many more

“Is she a smoke monster?” Lol something debated amongst Losties, but I believe she was already a smoke monster, she knows going into the light is worst than death, takes out an entire camp and just appears behind the MIB and his and jacobs mother at the river multiple times in the episode, like she just arrives out of nowhere. Enjoy the end of Lost, it’s been a great journey.

There is an epilogue after the "final episode". I hope you do a reaction to that as well. There are other reactors that either didn't know about it or just didn't want to do the reaction for whatever reason.

And Jacob was the man of faith, of course.

Sawyer was reading a manuscript called bad twin in the first few seasons. Jack burned the ending of it.
There's an interesting idea about how flawed Jacob is here, and it stems from the fact that he's only ever interacted with his mother. The MIB grew up around people and learned social skills and stuff like that, but Jacob has lived an extremely sheltered life, essentially being groomed from birth in isolation by his "mother", so it would make sense that Jacob is kind of a manchild at this point lol, he's very naive and throws tantrums when he's angry, resulting in what is probably his biggest regret in life; turning his brother into the smoke monster in a fit of rage. Mother is also an embodiment of both children, she has good and bad within her, and you can even see that with the clothes she wears: there is light on top and dark underneath. the MIB inherits her "bad traits" (as you've pointed out this is of course debatable and what makes their story so interesting) and Jacob inherits her "good" ones (again, debatable if those are the right words), it's a parable on the inherited traits of ones parents, which is a core theme in Lost as most of the main characters have daddy/mommy issues lol (To anyone interested in this perspective, I cannot take credit for this analysis, I got it all from LOST EXPLAINED, a great KZbin channel that does stellar work in analysing and explaining the Lost storyline in great detail, I highly reccomend it!)

Out of curiosity, this episode or Ab Aeterno?

@@jasonboyes9716 I've been debating that question for over a decade. I honestly don't think I can pick one.

I've always felt bad for the man in black and actually thought he was the good one and Jacob was the bad one. I don't see any redeeming features in Jacob at all and mib just wanted to leave and handled the truth pretty good I think

Nope. Man in Black consistently tricks, lies, and kills people when he doesn't have to. He's evil. Jacob is his jailer because he knows this. The very obvious.
