i'm back with another light novel video! (yes, about bsd again lmao) This time I drew Chuuya sadly looking out of a window since I thought it suited the emotional rollercoaster which was this book. I already posted this digital art on my insta, 'missglasseskun' a while back, but now i can finally post the video it orginated from!! Editing takes me so long lmao

Stormbringer was on a whole 'nother level of how f-cked up BSD can be, the lab scene(s) (i'm not ready seeing it animated omg-💀), Rimbaud's goodbye, VERLAINE **points at him**, the whole epilogue- **sobs on floor** I spent a whole day reading it, and I was a crying mess after I finished it;;; The other light novels that can rival on the fcked-up-level are BEAST and 55 minutes (with its whole science textbook paragraphs) If I remember right, Shirase actually creates an organization that supports children (gifted or not,not sure), also, Adam gets a detective robot partner, Eve, that I find so adorable :D And Verlaine later decides to come out of the basement(lol) and teach mafia members how to fight, he was also the one who taught Kyouka and Gin I just really excited to see if they decide to introduce Shirase, Adam, and/or Verlaine in main manga in the future.. thank you for such a thoughtful comment! and your thoughts are such a mood!! i haven't read all the light novels (only stormbringer and beast) so idk what happens for characters like shirase unless i decide to pick up another light novel in the future lol. for now, reading these two novels was enough! personally, i enjoyed reading stormbringer more over beast (tho what happens in beast is pretty fcked up too), i just thought the writing in stormbringer was more intense and it just drew me into the story so much more than beast- especially the fight scenes!!! they were on a higher level than in beast lol. I had NO IDEA there was a stormbringer stage play ???? that exists??? damn this is more content i need to look up lmao. thank you for telling me about this tho 😂🤣 idk if they'll ever introduce shirase, adam or verlaine into the current manga plot because it seems so far removed from stormbringer that i can't imagine it! also, i still can't believe shirase successfully managed to make a group since his entire character was so messy and bumbling in this novel - i couldn't see him in a reliable leader role lmao that's just me personally tho (i couldn't take that man seriously half the time cause i know all the bullshit chuuya had to put up with 😅😂) thanks again for commenting!! :)

Hahah you're welcome! I like listening to your reviews 😄 I haven't read all light novels either, but my personal favorite is Untold Story with Fukuzawa and Ranpo being in focus, when they first met. Just tiny Ranpo being a pigeon around him 😂 It's a high chance that it might be the starter arc for season 4! There were other shorter stories released as bonuses, like there's one with Katai and Kunikida, and a two-part short story titled " The day I've picked up Dazai", when Oda and Dazai first met. Side A is main story, while side B is an alternative. Dazai literally described as a 'burnt black cat' 😂😂 OHOHO there're a *few* stage plays, Stormbringer being the most recent, and they announced the season 3 stoty part for 2023. So so far there's stage play for: Season 1 (ADA vs PM) Season 2 (Guild) Dark Era Dazai's entrance exam (basically the Azure messenger arc) Untold Story (Fukuzawa & Ranpo) DEAD APPLE (script was written by Asagiri himself with few changes from movie, like; more Chuuya screen time 😳) Fifteen Stormbringer Season 3 (announced)

I was never really into light novels but I was curious since the summary described it as delving more into Chuuya's past. I binged that MoFo in one night. I loves me some angst, but holy hell the amount of pain Chuuya goes through during the torture puts some hurt/comfort fics to shame with how intense it was. N literally trying to just 'override' him. Whenever I see someone say Chuuya isn't important to the main story, I think about Stormbringer and hope that he gets more time to shine and isn't just slapped onto promotional images to have 2 minutes of screen time. LOOKIN' AT YOU SEASON 4. Chuuya is more complex and people just see him as violent. I mean, yeah he is. But he also fusses over his subordinates in drama CDs and looks over them. His loyalty is to the Mafia but there are many times we see him showing his dedication to protect the city, his home. He's literally fought 2 giants beasts and helped during the curse crisis to keep the city safe. Sorry this is rambly I just have a lot of feels. Thank you for the great video as always :)

this is just my own biased shilling lmao, but if you loved Stormbringer and Beast, please, please _please_ read Dark Era - yes, Dark Era was adapted in season 2, and it's arguably the best adapted light novel of the three in the anime so far, but it _still_ does not even _begin_ to scratch the surface of Oda's character and everything Dazai goes through in that novel, both of which are so integral to understanding not only Dazai himself, but the main themes of BSD as a whole (Oda is just a really important character honestly, probably the most important in the entire series, and it hurts me to see how underrated and ignored he is in the fandom, but again I blame 99% of that on the anime, because so much of the complexities and depth of Oda's character are only present in the novel's narration; Asagiri has written _three_ novels in his pov to drive home his importance imo, he's clearly their favorite lol). Again I know I'm biased lol but I really do believe Dark Era is the best written BSD light novel for everything it represents for the series, although Stormbringer isn't far behind - the aforementioned stage play in the other comment was actually my introduction to Stormbringer lol and it absolutely made me fall in love with it. ❤ The play got official English subs (the first time I've EVER seen such a thing happen with animanga stage productions tbh), and I can send you a link to it privately if you'd like to see it~ I also have the Dark Era stage play subbed as well; both of them are absolutely phenomenally done and made me cry multiple times lol, same with the recent live action Beast movie. I know a lot of casual anime viewers only prefer to watch the anime and not read light novels and such, and I get that, but please do try to read the other BSD lns if you can; they're all incredible and so much more fleshed-out, and I honestly have major beef with Bones (the anime studio) because a lot of the changes and decisions they make just...... don't capture the true depth BSD has tbh (season 3..... was so bad, my god....), which I really feel like contributes to a lot of the misconceptions in the fandom with certain characters. The "adaptation" of Dazai's Entrance Exam in season 1 was absolutely atrocious, and the Fifteen adaption in season 3 left out _so_ much....... The novels and manga are just so much better 🥲🥹 and while it's a frustrating and a somewhat strange decision for Asagiri to split crucial information to the canon between both the manga and the light novels, they _are_ important and people _should_ read them if they can, so that things in the manga make more sense and the characters have more depth (see: the occasional references in the manga to Oda, because he's such an important character to the narrative and it's just _expected_ that you know who he is, and who Ango is). But a;lkshgjfkdls;ak I'm sorry I'll get off my soapbox now; I really enjoyed hearing your thoughts! Like I said, the stage play was my intro to Stormbringer and I honestly have it to thank for me really starting to love Chuuya as a character; before Stormbringer I didn't really care that much about him or understand the rabid obsession with him (then again, I'm not really a shipper so...... yeah lol) because he's barely in the manga, but I always _wanted_ more for him because I felt like he had a lot of potential, as you talked about in your Chuuya Effect video, and I was completely blown away by how Stormbringer gave me all of that and more, and now I'm quite fond of Chuuya ❤ It's definitely one of Asagiri's best BSD lns, and I really hope we get to see Adam and Verlaine and some of the stuff that happens in it come back again the manga eventually hnnnnnnnnnnnng (also fun fact, Verlaine and Rimbaud were in a romantic relationship irl, albeit a toxic one, so they are, in a sense, the one BSD ship that's undeniably canon (and I do ship it loooool)) anyway SORRY FOR THE LONG COMMENT; BSD is my favorite animanga series so I just love ranting about it 🥲

Wait can i ask which two light novels are from Oda's POV except the Dark Era? And also I fully agree that Bones leaves out SO FUCKING MUCH. I literally wanted to scream at how bad and poor the adaptation of "Portrait of a father" was and how the main plotpoints were FULLY left out. It is my fav manga chapter and I'm sad about the treatment it got :(. generally season 3 is unwatchable for me after reading the manga

@@evastoyanova8398 oh my god A KINDRED SPIRIT; I feel you so hard, my friend, I never got over the butchering of Portrait of a Father and it makes me RAGE every time I think about it 😡😭 it's my favorite manga chapter too (although it has some fierce competition in the most recent chapters ngl) it's so fucking important and I was SO EXCITED TO SEE IT ANIMATED, only for Bones to leave out LITERALLY EVERYTHING THAT'S NEEDED TO UNDERSTAND THE POINT AND THEMES OF THE CHAPTER (and the series as a whole!!!)!!! The headmaster's backstory, Akutagawa's appearance, all of it, GONE. Absolutely unforgivable and disgraceful; if I had to point to one part of the anime that sums up how little Bones "gets" BSD, it'd be that fucking episode. I should have known season 4 wouldn't be much better after that but I was a fool 😃🔥 Season 2 is still the best season, for Bones' standards at least. They have moments of greatness sometimes but for the most part, it really feels like they just stopped trying altogether after Dead Apple was made, and it will never not infuriate and disappoint me. I am so tired of and dreading season 5 lol, end my misery alreadyyyyyyyyyyy askdgjfkdls sorry for the rant, anyway the other two light novels from Oda's pov aside from Dark Era are Beast, the role-swap AU, and The Day I Picked Up Dazai, which tells the story of how Dazai and Oda first met, when Dazai was 16! The latter doesn't have an official release yet anywhere, it was part of a movie theater ticket bonus in Japan, but popopretty on tumblr has translated it; if you search their blog you can find it! It's really sweet and sad. :' ) probably my second favorite behind Dark Era, but I'm Oda biased so yeah lmao

@ProPinkist No need to be sorry for the rant it is very much true. I will go to Bones and literally scream at them if they dare animate Stormbreaker in season 5 bc I want a whole ass movie with none of the parts missing. Even small ones like Adam discovering gum for the first time and eating an entire pack. But tbh I defo see how they stopped trying after Dead Apple. I am up to date with season 4 manga wise and am just a bit after it, however I will only watch the anime in order to see my fav parts animated but will ultimately be disappointed if it is anything like Season 3. THE GUILD AFTERMATH ARC WAS DONE SO DIRTTYYYYYYY. Like the only redeemable thing was probably the episodes where Fedya is properly introduced as they are accurate to the manga (Sins granted by the hand of God is my second fav chapter and I think it was done well by Bones in the episode My Ill Deeds are the Work of God). Generally, tho I see how Bones really does not do a good job portraying the moral greyness of BSD. That is evident in their handing of Portrait of a Father. The manga chapter is one of the most interesting psychology wise as it shows how even though the director abused Atsushi and did everything in his power to make Atushi hate him, he did it in order to protect Atsushi. I think that is shown when Atsushi says something along the lines of "Did he inject me with poison or with nutrients? As a matter of fact, I don't know, however seeing as I am alive today, it was probably nutrients", WHICH IS ABSENT IN THE ANIME BC THEY OMITTED THE SCENE WHERE THE DIRECTOR INJECTED ATSUSHI. As well as the SSKK scene we missed where so much of Akutagawa's charecter development is seen and how we can tell he is not just this guy who wants to kill Atsushi just to blatantly show off in front of Dazai. And tyy, I knew of the light novels, I just didn't know Oda actually was the narrator in the other two. I recently read the Beast manga and am planning on reading the lightnovel soon

Ohhhhh, I SO INTENSELY feel you on the Dark Era being the best light novel of them all. I... It's the only one that has truly impacted me so much after a long hiatus in my life where I have felt absolutely nothing towards media overall. Oda's narration is just... I can fully understand why Dazai is so in love with the guy. He is just incredibly analytical, empathetic and inquisitive. He's literally the light match in Dazai's world of total darkness. The time it shines is so short, yet, it brings warmth and comfort... which is so... beautiful (and I literally started sobbing smh) I LOVE everything about it. Every character has a part to play in its themes and its narrative heart. Gide, Mori, Dazai, Ango, Natsume... All of them serve as conduits of the author's intent in the most intricate and subtle ways possible. It's genius. I've written about 50 ish essays (Oh, I wish it was an understatement) on it, yet, there's still much more it has to say. Just like Oda's will is Dazai's heart, The Dark Era is the narrative heart of Bungo stray dogs, the value of which cannot to overstated.

So, um, I happened to purchase a copy of the "Illuminations" poems, for which Rimbaud's ability is named, and.... it gave a history of Rimbaud which proves that Rimlaine is canon in fiction and reality: Born in Charleville, France, in 1854, Jean-Nicholas-Arthur Rimbaud wrote all of his poems before the age of 21, with his most famous set of poems being "A Season in Hell." At the age of 17, in 1871, Rimbaud begins writing to Paul Verlaine, another upcoming poet of the time. Verlaine eventually summons Rimbaud to Paris, where their relationship becomes the the subject of gossip *to the point that Verlaine orders Rimbaud home* to quiet his wife's suspicions. Later, they go to London together and Verlaine begins to divorce his wife, but Rimbaud (for some reason) convinces him not to. ❗Now that's good, but get this: In 1873, Verlaine goes to Belgium and sends money for Rimbaud to join him there, which Rimbaud does. However, after only two days of being together, Rimbaud tells Verlaine that he is going back to France, and Verlaine shoots him in the wrist. *Well doesn't that sound familiar:* Rimbaud trying to take Chuuya back to France, only to be attacked by Verlaine. ❗ Anyway, they end up separating at that point, but later on in years to come, Verlaine published some of Rimbaud's poems, which, to me, likely means they were written for Verlaine. There was a story of several poems that Rimbaud wrote that were initially in Verlaine's possession, which cannot be found to this day. And just to really confirm that Rimbaud, at least, was queer: when he died in 1891, he left 3,000 Francs to his *male body servant and constant companion* of 8 years.

I just finished Storm Bringer today…LORD HAVE MERCY WHY MUST MY FAVORITE CHARACTER SUFFER AND GO THROUGH SO MUCH TRAUMA!? 😭 I already knew I was in for trauma reading this light novel, but I was not prepared for ALL THAT! 😩 The fact the detective wanted to show Chuuya the light, but died before he could?! THE FACT CHUUYA WANTED TO SEE THE LIGHT! Adam being Chuuya’s father figure, Dazai starting all this just to prove Chuuya’s human? What Verlaine did to Chuuya was abusive and cruel and there’s no excuse for it, but in the end he did what he did, because he genuinely cared about Chuuya. All Verlaine knew from Pan was abuse and being used as a spy for the government. So he projected his feelings onto Chuuya, and believed Chuuya was only being used by those around him as well. Verlaine never knew the difference between control and genuine love. Even Chuuya can understand this which is why he still somewhat cares for Verlaine despite everything he did. That Chuuya knows he likely could’ve gone down the same path Verlaine went. Chuuya seeing his ACTUAL PARENTS and leaving them saying the mafia is his family now? PLS CHUUYA DESERVES TO SEE HIS REAL PARENTS! I want to believe Chuuya will end up okay and happy in the end, but even if he does, it’s gonna be a long and painful road to get there. 10/10 would let traumatize me again! 🥹😭👍❤️
