I’m sitting here loving the sound “behind the screen of course”. I would totally freak out if i had to go through it in person. We went through Katrina here in MS and we are in central MS so it had calmed down a lot once it got to us but it was still really bad with lots if damage so i can’t imagine being where it initially hits

In some ways southern Sarasota County and northern Charlotte County got the worst of the wind from Ian. Ian was a very slow moving colossal sized hurricane. The people in those areas got hit by the northern eyewall for hours and hours. Seeing wind like that is always a pretty traumatic situation. Having it blow like that for hours on end is just really nasty and scary. You just want that wind to let up, but it keeps going for hours.

It was really cool that you crossed the Eye from NW to SE through HW 40. I stopped just in the middle of the eye just south of Punta Gorda and turned back towards Charlotte Harbor. The back Eyewall was way stronger than the front Eyewall. Love the the footage of the SSE Eyewall from the distance on minute 52

Thank you for showing me that negative surge , I have never seen that before. That was insane to me 😮 and that is how idalia moved , where my son was , the NC beach , it stayed around for over 2 days . One night his dad and him were at a hotel and his dad thought it was safe to go home , until it wasn't, at 3 am they left to go to a shelter, then the next day I was so upset, I stayed up throughout that night looking for them a hotel and I found the very last one and it actually had power. The only public building for miles that had power. I was very relieved.

We had to drive from Deep Creek during the eye collapse, to Port Charlotte to evacuate -our roof blew back, concrete dwelling, we stood outside recording/watching directly where the roof fell...house shook, we went inside to see the fasia blowing off our front gable. Filed with water then the roof ceiling, attic fell inside and exterior to our garage side, front double doors blown open, window shutters ripped off with other damages all at once. Pressure was intense. Insulation blown throughout the house, closets ect. Happy you survived, safe and love my storms too... Except this one, perhaps the deal-breaker... lol...much worse than Charley.

Well depends on the storm chasers there are those that call them a storm chaser but more for a thrill then there are those that have high education and plenty of hands on experience and knowledge..and they do it for not only the love of storms but they actually do it to collect info and more knowledge about each storm..that in cases like this or tornadoes you can't get sitting at home ..

I noticed from your videos that their are utility poles. It seems to me that those utilities wires should be underground. Many improvements are necessary in these high risk areas. Major changes are in store for property owners. The insurance companies are going to cancel policies and pull out of these areas. In spite of these challenges, we should be able to upgrade the building codes significantly. Prayers go out for the people effected in these areas. Patience and thinking this through will be needed in the months ahead.
@Vaflnana

After H. Charley, they put tall concrete power poles along highways. They did ok, lines down… Wondered why they didn’t bury them. We’re in East Englewood, neighbors had to hold their double front doors closed for hours, in the eye wall. Others blew open, debris in the house, some blew back sliders out. There wasn’t much warning for Venice south to Naples. By then highways were crowded, hotels filled, gas running low. It pulled a Charley and went in around Charlotte harbor. Charlotte County has no Red Cross approved shelters. Elevation too low. Never know where these storms are really going! Prayers to those affected, especially those who lost life, family and homes and businesses.
@Vaflnana
@Vaflnana Жыл бұрын
This explains why all the trees, poles, etc. in the area are leaning or downed in the same direction, including the tall palm leaning dangerously over our home. Paid a tree team from Kansas, who camped on the access road, $1,000 to cut it down and grind the stump. Heard that was a bargain from others… Also lost 4 fruit trees, and need a new roof… but compared to others in the area, we feel blessed! Prayers to those affected by Ian.
