Of cause you are right but that's not how the human mind works. If you have been caught in i.e. a heavy rain and you've got soaking wet, you do complain about being totally soaked. You do not think of the mom who's child is dying in Africa due to drought, or the boy who got killed by a car, just right now. We do only concentrate about our situation and that may be a wise decisions, sins it's your brains old evolved mean to survive. :-)

25:00, 26:00 Reality-check! DIDN'T YOU REALIZE YOU WERE IN A HURRICANE?? Did you think storm-chasing was all peaches and creme and glory? " A dent in the hood . . that's not cool!" That is what hurricanes do. You should have been driving a paid-off 1976 Ford Explorer, Dodge Ramcharger, or Chevy Suburban or Blazer. Why take a being-paid-for Jeep into Hurricane-force winds with blowing debris, and then moan and groan and curse, when you chose to go into it? It was your choice.

Cool footage but two of the more obnoxious behaviors in the chasing community on display: (1) entitlement complex and belief that being a chaser gives you some sort of special status. Lol at the sign on the car. You’re not a cop, not a firefighter, not a fed, you’re just a random with a camera. Whats next? Self-made chaser badges and uniforms? (2) the bubble effect like you’re just some uninvolved observer who somehow is outside the events unfolding and immune to their consequences. Youd think Samaras would have cured that but nope here we have some dude drive his Jeep into the direct path of the eyewall of a major hurricane and yet as the whole town is falling apart around him, hes shocked that *his* beloved Jeep is also getting some damage...i mean who would have thought, right? I guess the storm didnt see the storm chaser sign, whoops!

@@markpalavosvrahotes5575 Yeah I think I got some mesovort activity because I observed some tree debarking and complete defoliation of some trees in a localized area around my house at the time which had a portion of the roof torn off (older frame home). Probably gust near 150 at peak, which would make sense as naples recorded 142 and peak estimate at the time was 160. Surge was not much because the backside only had gusts to minimal hurricane force. Rainfall was about 10 inches and caused some flooding. Some rural areas like the eastern golden gate estates didnt have power until November but more urban areas mostly got power and water running in 2 weeks iirc. The front eyewall was very wet and was essentially a whiteout while the backside had almost no rain.

Excellent video. Have to agree with some commenters. Lost everything. Home was 3 miles northeast of TAFB. In your defense though, you guys see so much of this sort of thing in tornados, I think you inure to it, to the personal side of it. Probably would happen to me too if I was involved in your work. No worries.

A tragedy for sure, but you have to admire the strength of this storm. One can’t help but be awestruck when Mother Nature unleashes her fury and doesn’t hold back.

This is my biggest fear, getting hit by a major hurricane and being flooded. Texas has come really close to some bad storms since I have been here, but they usually turn and hit Louisiana.

To be fair, dude didn't complain that much about his jeep. He literally said "OH my jeep!" followed by "god help everybody here". So what? The most he ever said was "my jeep, my car.... that ain't cool". I don't know a single person who wouldn't have said at LEAST that much if a roof collapsed onto their vehicle. Although it was hilarious when he said "I still have my windshield!" and then the entire rest of the roof immediately crashed down on his car 😂😂😂

30:00 I know what kind of wood that is! Looks like your vehicle got hit by Oriented Strand Board, or OSB. That kind of wood is not good for hurricane zones. The vast majority of roofs that failed during Hurricane Andrew had OSB as the roof decking. OSB is very easily weakened by wind driven rain: a neighbor of mine in Wisconsin had OSB decking around his charcoal grill for two years, and it had the consistency of oatmeal.
