That was great advice about going for a 15 minute walk instead of just watching TV. There have been studies done that find boredom helps creativity. Not that a walk is boring, but it gives you time to think. If you don't ever allow yourself to be bored, you're not giving yourself time to come up with novel ideas. This is honestly good advice for anything you're trying to improve in life.

You don't solo-counterpick, a counter pick counters the entire composition; not just one overperforming hero. If you swap against a GM Winston with Roadhog, and the Silver Ana/Bap/Echo eat your cheeks as a result; you've accomplished nothing. Zarya tends to be the end of the line for tank counterpicks for me. I can player her against most comps, and she doesn't really have a hard counter option available. If I can't neutralize the diff with Zarya, my team deserves to lose.

dude i hate playing against zarya because if they're performing really well there's nothing i can do and i'm just playing a lost game for 10-20 minutes lmfao

@PatrickArcato That's because Dva has a very high skill ceiling. Zar has a pretty mediocre skill ceiling, with positioning and bubble conservation being her major weaknesses.

@@MrNeCr01 No, that's because that players was clearly much better than the average. It happens a lot in mid ranks where people are stuck because of bad team mates. Even that guy lost in the end
@Venant911824 ай бұрын
@@PatrickArcato I think coaches like Spilo often don't address why a player they review actually lost a game and instead focus only on what they could individually have done better. I think it would be beneficial to understand why a game is won or lost from an overall vantage point, as such analysis can deepen a players general understanding of the game.

A while ago I was reading a book on this specific subject of how to learn (Learning How to Learn - Barbara Oakley) And at the end of the video Spilo mentions a crucial moment in learning. The moment of diffuse thinking, think of it as a short-range but very wide flashlight, your brain begins to look at all available next steps as you relax. The brain doesn't stop being active because it's resting, it just goes into unconscious mode. That said, I highly recommend reading it for anyone interested in the subject. And thank you for the content @Spilo 10/10

Queue time does not count for engagement time unless you're doing something considered mentally draining. Think of it this way, what if queue times are 1.5 hours? That means you probably get 2 games in 4 hours. Two games is not going to drain your mental capacity if your'e conserving yourself during this time.

I must be slow. Bc I have been playong Support for just 2 months. Been playing this game total since just Jan. 2024. With Support, I've been playing like 4-6 hours a day almost 7 days a week. Sometimes I can, sometimes I can't. But I've only reached Gold 1 in Support Role Q. And open Q I'm Plat 4. I just now did a coaching session. So hopefully, now I have a guideline to what I need to practice when i play. This play time now, I will have deliberate things to work, not just remembering Cover. But i do have good mechanics. That was a big surprise.

If we are talking about 3h to 4h of focused time each day(which is true, I've read a lot about this stuff): How are you supposed to spend this time in Overwatch? Most people have work, university or school. Moreover, many people play in the evening which further leads to worse performance. It sounds rough for me to have this intense concentration in overwatch because its mostly used up elsewhere and therefore it is more or less impossible to have this time in OW. So... What should we do?

We all know Overwatch 2 uses an EOMM matchmaking system (engagement-optimized matchmaking system). You’ll win a bunch of games; everything will seem great, and then boom, you’re smacked in the face with a 10-game losing streak. Even though you’re losing, you’ll keep playing until you finally get that dopamine rush of a final win (this is where the engagement part really starts to make a lot of sense) before logging off and crying yourself to sleep at night. Sound familiar?

Personally, I just don't really .. Know how to improve. I can't, in the vast majority of time, really see where I can improve. I know, objectively that I can improve, but when I finally have the time to play, I don't want to sit and watch VODs of myself playing. E.g. I've been trying to rank up on support (my worst role), and I've been really struggling against what feels like godlike Doomfists, and I honestly don't know what to do. What does it matter if I sleep the DF, when my team still ignores him? His CDs are lower than mine, he'll just fly out, and come back 7 seconds later. What I'm saying is: I don't really know when a game is just lost because .. My team, as a whole (myself included) are just outmatched, and I need to say "nothing I could've done", and when I literally could've done something to win. I don't know where that line is, and frankly, those games infuriate me. It drains me.

Maybe a change in perspective. You can think you are lucky for getting to play and learn against better players. You'll never improve that much if you're only playing people worse than you and even if you get to climb vs the bad players, you'll eventually hit a plateau again vs the better players at your new mmr. Playing against people better than you speeds up the learning process in anything competitive. Maybe you can also watch the match back from their pov and see what they're doing different or what things you can imitate from their gameplay.
@dragonbowrghr59374 ай бұрын
If you're placed correctly, your win rate will be close to 50/50. If your goal is to play above your rank and climb, then maybe vod review to make the loss feel productive. Even the best players lose frequently, so don't take it too personally
