Agree with Singh A, fortuner made because track was clear...personal experience.....Isuzu and safari strome are good vehicles.

Anshuman does the xuv500 has 4wd lock switch so that it will always be in 4 wheel or only when slip is detected then only rear wheels will be engaged.Waiting for reply
@Anshyuman7 жыл бұрын
AWD lock button is on the center console just above Hill descent switch. By default the car is in Torque on demand mode, which activates AWD only when slip is detected, but if the AWD lock button is on it stays locked till a certain speed.

Very good video. By the looks of it Fortuner seems like an SUV built on Hilux Platform? Is that right? Looks like thar is a really capable car. good break over angle. Is thar a part time 4x4? Any locking diff? LSD or real diff lock?
@Anshyuman7 жыл бұрын
Fortuner is based on same platform as Hilux. Thar is part time 4x4, rear axle has Eaton Autolocker.
@justawordaway7 жыл бұрын
Anshuman Bishnoi Thanks. Thar seems a really capable 4x4. What is the front axle? Rigid or independent suspension? Sorry to bombard you with questions but I have plan to travel around the eastern Himalayas with my friend in our photo adventures and will be handy to have our own car. Trying to figure out which car will be appropriate and cost effective. You guys seem quite seasoned in Indian off road. How reliable is thar?
@Anshyuman7 жыл бұрын
Front suspension is independent, using torsion bar as spring. What is your budget for the car? Thar is reasonably reliable, not as dependable as the Japanese though.
@justawordaway7 жыл бұрын
Preferably used car as I have to sell it before returning. That way less depreciation. 10-12 Lakh. I would assume you wouldnt be able to rent one for 2-3 month period.

It clearly depends on the track as well as the capability of the driver. Assuming all drivers r equally capable a reverse order of testing should also be done to find out the capability if each vehicle.

Hi Anshuman , how come the safari could not conquer that slope given it has a 400 nm torque engine ( I felt the guy did not push the car much ).

@frustrate017 жыл бұрын
in which gear is the climb attempted in case of manual cars ? Was the gypsy redlining ? I felt that XUV500, Gypsy and even Safari were not in their powerband of max torque. Probably a gearshift was required ? Or a gearshift was made tough due to terrain (minor bumps before the climb) ? Similar problem in case of Grand Vitara. Just when more power was needed on the inclination, the cars were losing steam and redlining. Appreciate the fact that Fortuner was sent in first, it helps to know the terrain and you are sure that there is atleast one capable vehicle that can come to rescue.
@Anshyuman7 жыл бұрын
To climb this the car has to be in the peak powerband, not in peak torque band. Gearshift breaks the momentum, not possible here. For every car all possible gear combinations were tried, Vitara had a short first gear so it climbed easily in second, Petrols usually have advantage at such climbs with wider powerband. For uncertain climbs like this we attempt with Fortuner, It has highest chance of successfully crossing, so least amount of damage to trail, plus It has the advantage of better GC and approach angles.

The car that is least likely to damage the trail normally goes first, followed by crossovers. We should first know whether the obstacle is doable or not.

your efforts are commendable. however i must say that you guys are using too much tyre pressure for this kind of terrain. as i am from d army, i can say that the way you guys used the gypsy, it shows the lack of experience. recommendation - reduce tyre pressures to 8 psi. then try it. i have done higher and steeper terrains even without engaging 4x4 in d gypsy. however 8 psi wont be easy to manage once you are on the tarmac as the vehicle will wobble. this sand is pretty easy. try the sands of the BUTTERFLY DUNES of SHAHGARH sub sector south of Longewala and Ghotaru. best wishes...
@Anshyuman7 жыл бұрын
We were offroading on mixed surfaces and not purely loose sand so we were using 15-20 psi. All Terrain Radial tyres have more flex compared to Ply type on Army Gypsy so we need not go down to 8 psi, at 8 psi the tyres start to debead on heavy SUVs.
