I mean, I sort of agree? I just see "fursonas" as characters with emotional attachment or representation. They are still characters and OCs since they are not the actual you. People make OCs of themselves all the time, hence the term "self insert OC" I guess the best way I can put it is: Not every character is a fursona, but every fursona is a character"

Here's how I think of it: fursonas are a subcategory of OCs. In other words, all fursonas are OCs but not all OCs are fursonas. The defining trait of what puts an OC into the "fursona" category is if you use that character to represent yourself in some way, shape, or form.

how I've thought of it is that a fursona is a part of you, a character that represents aspects of yourself and is a part of your identity, while an OC or character is someone that you created with their own distinct identity that is separate from yours.

I have an emotional connection with all 108 of my characters but I only have one that I consider my fursona. Yeah, a bit confusing, especially since I technically haven't made all of the characters yet, but in base your fursona is what character you feel most like. Hope everyone has a gr8 day and don't talk to stranger's vehicles, they don't like it. P.S. a gr8 name for that character I feel would be Kaizen. Not sure why but it fits.

The reason why I made an old wolf OC my fursona when I became a furry was just emotional conection, and that's also the reason I keep him that way, he's more like an idolized version of me being more muscular and stuff, still that only makes the attachmen stronger

Yeah, my definition of fursona is pretty much the same as yours. Currently I only have two, Aguion and Database. Both are basically what I aspire to be, but divided in two entities. Aguion is a creative and fun-loving Demigryph, but he doesn't take things seriously unless he REALLY has to. Like, lives-on-the-line has to. Database is basically the opposite, a really inteligent and sassy Protogen who takes things TOO seriously most of the time. When they interact they balance each other out, bringing the best of each other while keeping the other on the line.

The way i handle it is: An OC is a Character i own A Fursona is a Character i own that represents me Basically, if i look at a Character and go: "Thats me!" then its a Fursona, if i go: "Thats [insert name of Character]!" then its an OC At least that's what makes the most sense to me personally^^ Oh and a Fursona is also a Character OTHERS in the Fandom identify you with, so that could be part of what makes a Character your Sona as well~ I feel like this often happens with Furry KZbinrs, the Character they Suit as in their Videos might just be an OC at first, but because their fans identify them with that Character/ Suit it slowly becomes a Fursona

i personally think a fursona is YOU as a furry. like if you suddenly turned into an animal but still have your same personality 'n' stuff an oc on the other hand is not you. they have a completely different personality, have their own backstories, interests, 'n' stuff i think a fursona is kinda like having your own animal form(s) while an oc is a separate person/animal/whatnot tbh when people make their sonas seem completely different from themselves, i always get confused cos i'm like "if it's a fursona when why is it nothing like you?" i get confused whether it's a fursona or really just an ordinary furry oc that claims to be a fursona.. ^-^;

Based on this video, I can now say with confidence that Anubis Amethyst is my fursona. I was a bit conflicted on whether he was a fursona or just a character, but no, he's definitely my fursona. Insane levels of strength, is extremely confident wherever he goes, isn't afraid to kick some ass to prove his point or protect those he cares about, and absolutely loves amethyst (obviously). He's got a lot of my traits personality-wise, he just has the athleticism I always wanted but never had the reason or time to achieve, and he also is a way for me to express myself in ways I don't feel like I necessarily can in "human form." I didn't realize just how helpful a fursona can be until I made one of my own and it's largely thanks to Stormi's videos that it happened.

I was trying to make myself second fursona other than my main one, but I keep ending up with a character instead... I know what I would want my second sona to represent, but for some reasons it doesn't work :/ Anyway, my current fursona is my 4th one. The very first (green acid-spitting bat called Nietoperomon that would be translated into Batmon) was made before I knew what furries are (it was in the '90 when I was still in kindergarden), then I made one when I discovered the fandom (blue snow leopard with antrles called Lordi) but didn't do much in it, then I kinda came back to it with another sona (schnauzer named Cukier - eng. Sugar) and now I have my original species Pargia that is called Skakuna :3

Fursona = Yourself embodied as an anthropomorphic critter of some sort, either completely or partially. An avatar meant to represent yourself. Character or Original Character ( "OC" ) = A completely made-up individual that may or may not contain some of your personal traits, but doesn't represent you in any way. They exist apart from you, almost like a child exists apart from their parent. This is how I choose to think of Fursonas and characters, though others may not agree with it. ^-^
