Great video Alex. And a very nice looking table. Combat patrols are a neat feature in O Group. Combined with smart use of consolidation orders they give a real period feel to a battalion game. A top job by Dave. Enjoy.

Interesting videos, some use of incorrect rule terminology made it a bit confusing in places (HQ 'points' etc.) but I know it's hard to concentrate on making videos, while talking, playing and trying the remember the rules all at the same time. A few points I noticed, still learning the rules myself though so I may be wrong on one or more: 1) At about 9m 15s, when your tank fired at the AT gun, the turret should have been turned to face the target and then stay in that position, although turret movement is free the turret cannot change facing from its ending move/fire order position if using a React order to fire later, it must use the firing arc from it's current facing, so physically turning turrets is important. 2) When you deployed the British platoon at about 12m 20s, AFAIK the Coy HQ can deploy for free with it? 3) At 19:45 where the Germans lost the MG team. AFAIK, if the MG team was a HW section attached to a platoon (can't recall if this was) it doesn't remain on the table once the last section is lost from the platoon, attached heavy weapons AFAIK don't remain once their platoon is gone. 4) At 20:49 you got the FUBAR 'Command Crisis' Battalion HQ order penalty the wrong way round. If your opponent guesses your concealed dice number correctly the FIRST time you lose two HQ orders (not points!) and only one if he/she guesses correctly on the second guess. It's better for your opponent (worse penalty for you) to guess correctly the first time, not the second which would be counter-intuitive.
@StormofSteelWargaming3 жыл бұрын
Your probably right on all the points, as I said in the intro I'll be making mistakes throughout. Its bit difficult to turn tank turrets when they are glued in place though... 🤣🤣🤣
@Edward-Plantagenet3 жыл бұрын
@@StormofSteelWargaming No problem, only pointing these out as, despite multiple readings of the rules, I'd still missed them. Something else I missed too, every time a platoon takes a KIA, if it has a HW attached, you roll a D6. On a 1 or a 2 it's the HW that is KIA (instead of, not in addition to, a platoon section). Luckily I magnetised most of my turrets, the facing is definitely something that needs to be showed somehow. Only problem I will have is with a few small armoured cars like the 222 and 250/9 but I think their side / front armour is the same anyway so it won't matter. Great vids though.

Alex, including tanks in mixed actions is always a challenge in scenarios - as your game shows. If you continued playing the Panther almost certainly would have prevailed in the armour exchange - leaving it as a formidable HE platform to disrupt the infantry push. Conversely, had the Firefly scored an early kill you would have 3-4 Allied tanks help crush the Heer infantry. With that in mind, hope you do another O-G video soon (just got my hard copy in the post!) and would request you demonstrate infantry AT attacks both using attached AT sections (PIATs, etc) and a regular Late War platoon's AT capabilities, which I see are featured in Mr Brown's latest opus.
@StormofSteelWargaming3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, however if the Panther had been knocked out there were two Panzerschreck which had not yet deployed onto the table to harass the remaining Allied tanks... I think the Panther was lucky, but I also should have used smoke and got the Fireflies behind it. Lessons learned... I fully intend on making more O Group videos in the future, but it won't be until the weekend after next at the earliest as I am hosting a game for Virtual Lard 5 next weekend. I'll probably be looking at some Eastern Front stuff or even Malaya, not sure yet.
@get_the_lead_out3 жыл бұрын
Very nicely done, as usual. I’m in the middle of reading the rules and this playthrough helped immensely - thanks! As I was watching you do the command crisis roll, I thought of a workaround for a solo game. Make your first and second selection for the two guesses, then roll the die to see what the number is. If it matches either of your guesses, apply the result according to the order of the guesses. Looking forward to your next OG video!! Any chance of maybe doing a desert fight?
@StormofSteelWargaming3 жыл бұрын
Cheers! Yeah, the command crisis roll can be done in a number of ways really, I just came up with that one quickly. Unfortunately, I have no desert war stuff, I'll be looking at the Eastern front or even Malaya for the next O Group game, I think... stay tuned though!

@@StormofSteelWargaming I've also been playing solo using the pdf version and finding it a cracker of a game. While waiting for the rules our club used to call it WW2 General d'Armee but I'm even liking it more as the combat resolutions are so fast and intuitive - no need for charts. And no easy choices with limited orders and so many ways to spend them.
@StormofSteelWargaming3 жыл бұрын
@@Vlad65WFPReviews I've not played GdB, but it has a good reputation. Yeah, I like the smooth combat rules and the abstraction of it all into a few dice rolls. I hate charts, so not looking them up is always a bonus for me!

Counters came as part of a bundle that was on offer (though plain MDF, the ones on show were painted by Storm of Steel, I presume). Should be available on their own from TFL soon.

Thanks, yeah, as soon as you pick up the basics, turns go fast with very little looking at the rules and even the QRF. The tokens came with the pre-order bundle. I believe they are back on sale at the TFL website, as Peter says I painted mine when I got them.

Your Brit platoon on the Left took fire in the first turn and you removed a base. They rolled a 5 for save, that should have passed and they would not have lost that base. Great video BTW. My group just got the rule but we have not had a chance to play yet.

One more quick question - how did you paint the grey-green coat on your hit markers (and the red on the fubar)? I don't want to ruin my nice pdf markers by using something too thick or inappropriate.
@StormofSteelWargaming3 жыл бұрын
They were just painted with an airbrush, nothing more difficult than that. The fact that you can still see the etched writing is more down to luck than skill on my part... If you are using a brush, I'd probably recommend thinning the paint before painting and the MDF will soak up the paint anyway.
