8/30/24 Friday evening from 6:00 PM - 10:00 PM along the grey line 10 western states and into Vancouver Canada we had some incredible HF 40 meters propagation open up the bands. I was hearing Hams 5x9+ from all over, Thanks for the solar storms report Tamitha😎

We've missed you! Really like the way you use the far side views of the sun and show the movement of active regions to the earth view side. You make space weather so interesting!!

I appreciate you sharing your thoughts with me. Glad to know you like the farside views. Yes, Solar Orbiter just so happens to be in the right place for this right now. Sadly, in a few months its orbit will move it to the front side again, but hopefully I will be able to begin using STEREO-A imagery again soon to help supplement the HMI Helioseismology farside imagery. It really helps when we have eyes on that side of the Sun!

Once again, you really make space weather a joy to learn about. I did see an aurora on Monday night, local time, but it was quite faint. How nice that it was correctly polarized to give us earthlings such a wonderful view. It really makes a person marvel at this wonderful home planet we live on.

Dr Skov, are there any data caches that record solar flare coordinates and planet locations at the time of the flares? Or can such data be overlaid to see possible patterns? Lots of talk on multiple channels about how lucky Earth is this or that flare and sunspots are happening on the far side of the sun. Is that because Jupiter is tugging on the sun which has been on the far side from us? Jupiter has an 11.8yr orbit (even gets10% closer on its elliptic) which seems timed with the Sun's 11yr sunspot cycle. Is Jupiter at that closest point to the sun right now? As Earth comes around the Sun, seeing more of the far side as we go through Sep-Jan, are we likely to be right in that firing zone? I started considering Jupiter's risk and looked at magnetic+distances after seeing notes of how the planet positions today match the 79AD Vesuvius/Pmpeii event. Jupiter has 14x the magnetic field of Earth and spins twice as fast (is the 14x a static measurement or includes electromotive-spin moving field effects?). And both Jupiter and Saturn have the opposite poles to Earth's currently. What is the sun's N-S pole orientation before/after the current solar cycle (I searched and while I found a lot of articles about flipping, nothing about actual field direction)? The Earth's magnetic field is weakening and the poles are wandering, presumably more susceptible to influence by other stronger magnetic sources around us, especially if the sun is flipping to the same N-S pole orientation as Jupiter and Saturn as we pass through the region. The sun could be a big thumb flicking this Blue Marble over.

I'm sure someone out there knows why all four GOES data periodically drops from an average near R1-level down to a low A-Level. It's affecting all four, both long and short, and seems to happen once within a 48 hr. time span. Can anyone answer my query as to what causes this phenomenon (dot doo da dooto. Phe Nom i Non do doo di do)?
