I think they were split when they sang this, it was really hard on Jessi don't think she ever stopped loving Waylon, met Jessi and son Shooter at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake Iowa 9 or 10 years ago a moment I'll never forget, she is such a beautiful lady inside and out, her voice just touches your soul, will enjoy listening to her till my last day, but yes their love was strong while it lasted, and their voices complimented each other when they sang together, wish it would have worked out for them, they really did make a great couple

I knew Waylon before Jessie did, and I can tell you for a fact she had to be a very special lady to put up with his wicked ways right up to the end. He finally did get off drugs by himself, Jessie, and the Grace Of God. RIP Waylon You Were/Still Are The Best!

I also think that Waylon had a very deep appreciation for Jessi because she stayed with him through all of the hard years of drug abuse, and then helped him get off drugs. There is an absolutely beautiful song that Waylon wrote for Jessi shortly after he became drug free. The video is here on KZbin, and is called "Where Would I Be Without You". If you have not already seen the video of Waylon singing this song to Jessi, please do so. The song is especially loving, and truly shows how Waylon felt about her. Also, if you have never read Waylon's autobiography written in 1994(?), please try to. His love for Jessi practically "jumps" off of each and every page. Actually this song was written by Jessi Colter, not Whalen. Whalen talked about this in one of their videos. Apparently when Jessi ran it by Whalen, she got no feedback from him ... perhap he had his mind on something else. So she threw it in the garbage. Fortunately he saw that and he liked the song so he retrieved it.
